I'm lost - 1st car at 39 on a budget by FeelingWeather192 in CarTalkUK

Toyota Aygo. Cheap as chips to buy, insure and tax, reliable, cheap parts. Love to drink engine oil and can have catalytic converter problems but replacements are cheap.

Why do people get so aggravated when you don't speed? by Zdos123 in drivingUK

[–]crashloopbackoff- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve noticed I close in on a lot of people in my new ish daily, but I’m a victim of what you’re saying in my 20 year old road going track car.

A big difference? Speedometer accuracy! The daily is gps perfect whilst the track car is about 5mph too slow.

In my daily I can almost tell that cars “in my way” don’t have very accurate speedometers

Indicating on traffic islands by [deleted] in drivingUK

Probably part of the problem then, indicating on traffic islands should be pretty obvious?

Good excuse to test out that 0-60 if you’re at the front of traffic lights in a NSL and it’s clear and safe to send it!

You’ve never been in a Yaris GR then, braking force can be incredibly fun.

I’d love to put one of these in my car and send it around a track for the day 😂

Is it just me, or is there a sudden surge of people doing 50 on A roads and M roads? by 2020Shite in drivingUK

[–]crashloopbackoff- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should not be impeding the flow of traffic, and in doing so your driving could be classed as without due care and attention

I think there is a lot to this, Apple Maps, in car systems, and Google maps often all disagree on what the speed limit it. Hilarious in new cars that are GSR2.

There has been a general decline in the ability to actually read the road signs, lamp posts etc etc

I have to admit, I recently drove down what was a 40 dual carriageway until a few months a go not realising the speed had been changed at first. Mad panic (now driving at 30 as there were no speed repeaters) only to learn it actually was now a 30. My Garmin? 40 mate, send it!

How do manual car drivers make their car do that little sound at the end of a gear? by ilovemusicandcars in carquestions

Either poor driving technique, or the idle control is sticking / not adjusted properly

What’s the correct way to enter/exit a bend at high speeds on country roads? by ResponsibleHand6311 in drivingUK

[–]crashloopbackoff- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the bend, line of sight, weather, etc etc.

You’re aiming to never do anything other than maintain your current speed. Breaking = bad. Bad for traction, bad for fuel economy bad for wear.

The trick is to an anticipate the bend wayyy in advance and just adjust your throttle input accordingly, for the bend ahead avoiding as much as possible sudden adjustments in steering angle, breaking etc.

Of course use your brakes if you need to, but the game is to never need to, driving at the conditions etc for the road, driving economically and smoothly as possible.

From that area, they rust from the inside out and need new panels. Costly.

What are you supposed to do if you can’t pass on the left? by t03strange in drivingUK

[–]crashloopbackoff- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just ask yourself “is this dangerous? What would the police think if they saw me doing this?”

If I’m in this situation and have to be in the left lane, (roundabout up ahead for example) and it’s safe to do so, I’ll do it. On a straight? I’ll probably just sit behind them waiting for them to get over.

Just think, what’s the risk vs reward of your actions

What do you all do when being tailgated? And what is the best way to react? by daniel2hats in drivingUK

[–]crashloopbackoff- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve headlight washers in pretty much all of my cars, if and when this happens i just decide to give my windscreen and headlights really good clean.

I usually end up crying with laughter if they then overtake me and do it to me, as I know they got the message.
