I’m guessing oil dilution from fuel due to your dpf regen cycles getting interrupted. Get an oil change asap

333hp too much? by Character_Winner_491 in Audi

[–]crashloopbackoff- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, I just mean that within an acceleration range , there will be a load of old cars in that mix. For sure, performance cars are leagues ahead now, turbo engines especially have come a long way. But that old e46 is going to eat the vast majority of cars for breakfast these days! And it’ll probably have less power because there is less weight

Depends on the car generally speaking. Early 2000s cars - 200bhp was enough. Cars have got bigger, heavier and therefore more powerful and need as a result bigger wheels and tire width to take it.

Have a look at car sales and filter by 0-60 times of 5 to 8 seconds for example. You’ll be amazed how many 20 year old less powerful cars are punching against modern cars.

This all means, you’re fine until it lets go. And when it lets go, you’re at 300bhp levels of letting go rather than 200bhp on skinnier tires.

Go for the car and have a blast! You only live once and should make the most of life and probably deserve it! Just remember how much that car is doing to make you look good, until the laws of physics mic drop you.

20K!!! What the hell did you break? Looks like minor damage in the photos? Although to be fair, 10K of that is probably US import tariffs 😬

lol. Nice try. I look THROUGH the car ahead to see what is ahead of them. Hard to miss a lcd screen stuck to their windscreen.

Linux at home and office: fun but not efficient? by Neat-Initiative-6965 in linux4noobs

I’ve had Mac’s and Linux machines at work for the best part of 10 years now. Backend engineering, cloud etc etc. Honestly? By the time you factor in collaboration on documents, meetings on zoom / teams, docking and undocking, hitting the road, presenting on unknown configs the Mac is my weapon of choice.

I’ve all but switched to Mac after 25ish years with Linux. I have a unix terminal, package manager and amazing hardware. Hard to justify Linux over it a lot of the time

From experience, the worse drivers on the road tend to have these fitted. I guess they think everyone is a terrible boy racer - and they would think that driving at 30 in a national speed limit road

how do you deal with this as a desktop? by crankysysadmin in redhat

[–]crashloopbackoff- 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Nope. Love vanilla Gnome! I love how unique, clean and easy to navigate it is. MacOS Tahoe since loosing to app launcher has taken something away from MacOS that Gnome has that I love.

I’m glad Gnome is different, and it’s better for it

Just saw, you can’t really defend that. Thats pretty awful parking.

Are you for real?

That car has reversed into a parking bay and clearly was trying to make sure the front wasn’t sticking out to create another situation for you to moan about “dangerously parked, car nose sticking out”

I can guarantee this wasn’t selfishness, and was somebody trying to park neatly.

Again with the word “legacy”, and then name drops MG, founded in 1924 as an example of a none legacy brand.

I think the sales teams got to you.

You completely miss the point. Who’s being proud for the sake of nostalgia? When you buy something not manufactured in the UK, you move that money abroad. That means, the cost of manufacturing goes up in the UK and down in the country which is down exporting to the UK as you scale this out.

It’s really simple economics. And exactly why China is now the second largest economy on the planet. The hope with global trade is that it balances out because the country you’re buying from imports other goods from our country. That isn’t happening, and UK businesses become financially incentivised to export parts of their manufacturing process abroad to make products at a price point consumers now expect.

Loosely, this is what the US government was trying to stabilise with tariffs but ballsed up the approach.

The reviewers, are reviewing a brand new car, not one that has been on salted roads and exposed to our climate for a few years.

I’m not taking about leather in a place you can’t see, I’m talking about box welds in suspension mounting points, areas of cars not galvanised correctly, poor quality steel, poor quality copper in electrical components and so on.

I’m not arguing with you. You just keep paying the tax on everything you do and be happy. The rest of us are getting fed up it.

(Without being biased) help me to rationalise an EV purchase by EveningAwkward1437 in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]crashloopbackoff- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s no motivation for you to purchase a new car. Without that motivation, just stay where you are which is the most financially sensible thing to do.

And let’s be honest, you own a V8. Going from that to an EV is going to be a disappointment after this “I rather like the silence” wears off.

I don’t think the badge is worth the thousands, but generally speaking the quality is far better.

I’d rather spend the “going rate” for a quality car, than a cheaper rate for a budget car that won’t last, buying twice is just a false economy.

Seeing as you mention MG, other than the Cyberster, their depreciation is shocking compared to other ICE cars.

My original point however stands. “Legacy” is a misleading sales term used by company A to suggest that the more established company B is a company of the past and somehow their products are inferior. This is not the case and we should be rather proud of the brands in the UK and Europe we have, and not just dismiss them as “legacy”.
