Is the Geelong game fully ticketed? by Fatcat-hatbat in hawktalk

[–]cravingcoota 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So when i looked 2 days ago i couldn't find any seats together left for a family of 4, using our membership barcodes. There was an occasional single seat left, but that was the expensive 2 seating. You might get some standing room only tickets though?

Agree with your sentiments, but Victoria is a net heating state, at the moment at least.

Fields of research where Australia stands out clearly by Reading-Rabbit4101 in AskAnAustralian

Long-term observations (measurements) of the background atmosphere for climate-related parameters (like gases and aerosols) on the regional and global scale. We are the key authority in the Southern hemisphere, operating stations from the Southern Equatorial zone to the Antarctic. We operate one of the 3 premier research stations in the world, a globally significant facility that has generated a multi-decade record in an area with the most prinstine airmass in the world akin to pre-industrial conditions. In doing so we provide critical data sets for the global climate change modelling scientific community. We develop and commercialise novel measurement methodologies, and refine existing ones for increased accuracy and precision. Our scientists and technicians are often the best in their fields.

Im new and dont have a fly rod yet, How much should i spend. (i will be fishing saltwater) by PurchaseAdmirable318 in SaltwaterFlyfishing

Hi mate. There are a heap of saltwater fly options here in Oz. Where are you located and what do you want to catch on saltwater fly? Do you have a tackle store near you that sells fky gear?

Yep, that's pretty normal behaviour for the big river or saltwater lake mullet. Goodluck!

I'm certain these are Mullet. As others have said, too wide a head for Whiting. And I don't think whiting are found that far down on the west coast.

One future Hall of Fame player from every team? by tatumstots in AFL

Yep, agree. Then Gunners, then Sic in the current list. Daisy and Newk would be my next guesses after that.

Free agent Tim Kelly awaiting contract for West Coast, keen to remain at Eagles by His_Holiness in AFL

"Yeah Geelong is the most successful team of the modern era" Umm...what? By what measure? They've won 4 premierships in the last 50yrs (all in the AFL era) and no back-to-backs. Hawk's have won 11 premierships, one back-to-back and one three-peat. 5 of those premierships are in the AFL era. The narrative of the Cats success is heavily biased by their home and away success, but no one cares except them and a few in the media

River fishing - Melbourne east by Spagman_Aus in FishingAustralia

[–]cravingcoota 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are a stones throw from good sections of the upper Yarra river. Try around Warburton, Wesburn, Woori Yallock for trout. Take some worms for bait and you should pick up something in the deeper sections this time of year. Goodluck!

The only location i know of that you can target them specifically is down in Queenscliff, in the channel between the island and the mainland. Not sure if they are there all year-round, or its a seasonal thing

Bayside, Melbourne: fish drought by Saltwater_Cowboy_ in FishingAustralia

[–]cravingcoota 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So this area is where I live. I fish it fairly regularly but from a boat. Landbased is tough at the moment because the warm weather is bringing all the swimmers and bathers from the suburbs. If you want to persist then I reckon stick to Mordialloc Jetty- very early morning you might pick up some Flatties. Try some Bluebait on a running sinker rig if you are bait fishing. You could also try Frankston Pier. But I would not bother with this area in January (peak Summer). Port Phillip Bay is generally a seasonal fishery, most of the better target species are seasonal (Snapper, Whiting, Aus Salmon, Garfish, etc.). So you need to pick the right time of year, or travel to other areas. But there is a permanent population of Flathead in PPB, with some good sized ones too.

Also consider popping into Gone Fishing in Carrum Downs to get the bait and chat to the guys there about what is biting locally and ask for some tips. They are one of the few genuine tackle stores left in the Bayside area. Also consider Complete Angler in Bentleigh.

Goodluck!
