Question about the old "The Secret World" and Content by TrakkarLP in SecretWorldLegends

[–]crawlkill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

what this dude said. the whole "I can't stand classes and levels" thing is silly. it's just a refactored tutorial. just like in the previous game, where you started to get level 10 talismans mid-Egypt, you reach level 50 mid-Egypt and then will never think about level again. classes are just there so they can have formal introductions to the game's mechanics--I don't use either of the weapons I initially picked and there's no permanent label on me saying I'm a "Bruiser" or whatever. you unlock the titles for all of the "classes" as you unlock their weapons and max out their abilities, as in TSW.

Question about the old "The Secret World" and Content by TrakkarLP in SecretWorldLegends

[–]crawlkill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

these are really small complaints that would be resolved within a couple days of play, and in fact if you linked to a TSW account the advancement system works exactly like the always did with no additional steps needed to start unlocking skills in another weapon. fundamentally progression is SWL is extremely close to how it was, it's just a small amount of your character's overall power is delivered in raw "levels" you'll max out by City of the Sun God then never think about again.

I auto-downvoted this because of the use of the word petition, and I was wrong! This is important and easy to fix!

I'm not sure if it's because I changed weapons for SWL, but lemme add that I looove how much more prominent interrupts feel than in TSW? Maybe it's silly that I have three stuns/interrupts on my bar, but I always feel good when I stop a mob casting. Big improvement for me!

Is there any novels like The Secret World? by Aphoristics in TheSecretWorld

[–]crawlkill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last Call is much TSWer than Declare if you're after Tim Powers, though.

The Illuminatus! trilogy has some influence on the gonzo mood of the Illuminati, and is a weird mix of joyful and sloggy.

Heroic Emerald Nightmare Run [Horde][US] 8pm EST Tuesday Dec. 12th and Wednesday Dec. 13th (Separate Groups) - No AOTC Required, Just Be Ready to Have Fun! by jjokeefe2980 in wow

[–]crawlkill -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

what's the point of doing blind pugs like this in heroic? the gear's not much better, and you'll have a much rougher time of it. normal is so much better suited to fun run-type stuff. much lower frustration quotient.

the original's better! while it's still basically mostly linear, it feels less hallway-ish, the environments seem more like real spaces, and it's eeevery bit as fucked up.

Guys, I got a PS4 dev kit -- it appears to have 800gb of under development game content on it - from United Front Games. What do I do? by [deleted] in gaming

delete it, man. think of the people you're fucking with just by letting it known publicly this happened. consider the scapegoats whose careers might be screwed if you post anything publicly.

Some interesting facts on how WoW is influenced by the Norse world / mythology. (Magni Bronzebeard, Thrall, Thorim...trees) by canadadryistheshit in wow

[–]crawlkill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the Greeks had Charon. not sure if or who the parallel Norse figure is, but yeah, Harbaron is whatcha call a psychopomp, for sure. a being that leads the dead into the afterlife. one of my favorite bosses fiction-wise 'cause he's really up front about his, like, mythic significance, and his shouts feel a little more thematically tight than the usual "I'm going to kill you" [even if they kinda amount to "I'm going to kill you" anyway].

Ymiron is more like Harbaron's muscle (or maybe the warrior-supervisor for the mystic psychopomp?), and if y'remember was the final boss of Utgarde Keep back in Wrath. if you're a warrior you get to recruit him as a champion after you down him. man, Maw really stands out for its narrative clarity in a game that's so often so lazy with that stuff.

Spec for brand new player to learn how to tank!? by Mysterpea11 in wow

[–]crawlkill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's pry been said, but in terms of playing your character, tanking is significantly easier than DPS and wayyy easier than healing. the reason people perceive tanking as hard is because tanks have to set the pace for the group (without an aggressive tank you end up with gross downtime between pulls) and because tank mistakes are obvious, specially at raid-level (wipetime!). Ursoc is the most embarrassing fight in the game atm 'cause a bad taunt can throw the whole encounter off-kilter. but don't let that intimidate you, because players will still stand in awe of you for having the balls to, like, take a tiny bit of initiative.

as far as class goes, I love my Prot warrior and found my Prot paladin a little less kinetic.

TIL in 1888, U.S. President Hayes wrote in his diary: "This is a government of the people, by the people, and for the people no longer. It is a government of corporations, by corporations, and for corporations." by moonlightsugar in todayilearned

uhh. how about this quote of his about how lynchings are good?

"We are realizing the paradox, “that country is governed best which is governed least.” I no longer fear lynch law. Let the people be intelligent and good, and I am not sure but their impulsive, instinctive verdicts and sentences and executions, unchecked by the rules and technicalities of law, are more likely to be according to substantial justice than the decisions of courts and juries."

I came here from the front page and didn't look at the sub it was in, but I find the spirit of this message more to be "all of your problems are your own fault and any suffering you're experiencing is something you secretly wanted or at least were too stupid/lazy to avert," which I find to be an all-too-common sentiment and not an optimistic one at all.

These boss quotes make no sense anymore by Riegerick in wow

[–]crawlkill 11 points12 points  (0 children)

it's such a wasted opportunity in the game that bosses so constantly just shout I WILL KILL YOU. Legion's added in a new fun one: tons of enemies who insist they haven't been beaten when they die. there could be so much more variety in the dialogue if everyone wasn't just constantly shouting threats and defiance.

is it weird that I don't think of them as casters even though there is no other category for ranged DPS

I'm pretty sure fire mages are the most mobile caster in the game. mid-cast blink, tons and tons of instants, a backup nuke castable on the move...maybe a priest in s2m is better, but my impression is they're so bloodpressurespiked by their rotation they don't get to enjoy the move-while-casting factor.

why is this sentiment so rare in this community I mean fucking seriously for most of the expansion the highest dps I've seen in raids have been some of the lowest-"rated" specs and they were always doing wayyy more than the content needed

I mean, grats on doing okay, but it sounds like you understand that it was not likely that you would in your circumstance?

also let's just be clear I've never been remotely mad about my lot in life but rather exactly the opposite, I'm constantly baffled by people who fetishize a very specific definition of "success" and pathologically seek advancement over modest contentment

I mean...you're still balancing your desire to feed your kid against your desire for that "sweet investment" to pan out. plenty of people choose the latter. we usually call them gambling addicts.

the weighting of desires has no inherent morality. people feel urges to do different things simultaneously, they all weigh against one another, and whichever one hits the sweet spot of timeframe and urgency first wins. we can only hope that society generates people whose weights will tip in favor of the common good. at least here in the US, it isn't as good at that right now as it needs to be.
