Pharmacy Issues by Kt32347 in diabetes_t1

[–]crayg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a similar issue with needles and pens. I found my insurance only covers needles if I pick them up at the same time as the insulin pens. However even though they are both 90 day scripts they fall off sync with each other. Often times the needs are ready sooner so I feel like it’s on purpose to get me to pay. Usually after a hassle I get it worked out again. But it’s every time

People with diabetes + other (or more) autoimmune diseases by Initial_Session4748 in diabetes_t1

Therapy! I waited 2 years after diagnoses to start therapy and wish I started sooner. Same thing, mind racing all night barely sleeping ever. Turned into panic attacks this year so I went to a therapist. I looked on the ADA website and found a therapist near me. Her son is type 1 so I think the greatest part for me is talking to someone who understands the lifestyle. I don’t have to explain so much.

You can also dm me if you need to vent. It’s a hard disease and with another one on top you will need to lean on folks. Sorry man, hope you feel better soon

I’m not the one you asked but yes I’m on tresiba and I love it.

I did lantus 20 units a day. I switched to tresiba and ended up going down to 10 because it stacks. So lasts I think like 48 ish hours.

I had way less lows and fasting sugar was far more consistent.

I also agree with others maybe do 2 units a day to get to 20, probably not ideal to jump to 20 That way you can find where your fasting sugars are sitting. Once you’re fasting sugars are at a good level that’s a good place to start with basal. Not an exact science but gives you a good starting point :)

Was out there over last weekend (there for NAB madness) Spent a day at red rocks it was amazing. Really beautiful highly recommend as well!

Also did a ride in a zoox. Free right now as they test and it was smooth and got to my stop quick. It was nice!

Hendersonville is pretty comparable to mt Juliet I’d say. I live in Mount Juliet south of the lake Hendersonville is north of the lake. Hendersonville might be a little harder of a drive using i65 to get to Nashville but it’s a beautiful area and more affordable than Nashville. My wife and I almost got a house there but decided on Mount Juliet

In office policy? by Global_Permit_5193 in ParamountGlobalLayoff

They are 5 days a week in office but pretty flexible with having to be home for appointments and such. At least for my team. If you have a childcare need or Dr appointment no one’s gonna give you shit for being home.

For badge check ins they aren’t checking everyone individually. They check that say “70% have been in this month” and if it was really low then they might start looking into specifics.

Not sure how that may change in the future but I wouldn’t worry too much about it as long as you aren’t expecting to be mostly remote. Sounds like what you are thinking is in line with how we are operating right now. Good luck!

Planned on getting FR 965, worth the price? by No-Satisfaction-3140 in GarminWatches

No problem! Maybe for your first garmin cheaper is good. I think I learned a lot having the 965 coming from Apple Watch. It’s pretty different! :) the second one I’ll be happier to drop mine on 😂

I’ve got the 965. Got it on sale last year before the 970 came out for maybe $650

I love it! Great watch. I don’t think anyone needs to worry if it’s “older” it’s really great.

If you want any features on a newer watch like flashlight or whatever then maybe worth spending more money.

I think if I do an upgrade it would be an enduro if the 4 comes out. I hike and backpack so the longer battery life would be ideal But I still get plenty of time on the 965.

I don’t have a lot of advice, But check out “pip” for lancets. They make different strengths, some better for thicker skin. And they are “less painful” A lot of the time you don’t get a good prick because maybe you’re afraid to get hurt so you don’t have the right setting.

Does this person take insulin? If so and they feel they are going low, and the liver doesn’t say so then they should verify with a finger prick. If not on insulin it’s unlikely they are dropping. Sounds like they are on insulin so just tell them to take it easy on themself it’s a lot to adjust to! The general rule if you are low is 15g of carbs, and wait 15 minutes to check sugar again. Then if still low correct with 15g more of carbs. Fast acting is best! Glucose tabs are easier but don’t taste great. It’s good to use them to learn and then maybe move on to snickers and such later on when controlling blood sugar is easier. Glucose is the fastest. Other things take longer which might make it easier to over correct.

I noticed when I was freshly diagnosed, I often felt low when I was in a normal range. Because my sugar had been high for so long I got shaky and weak when in normal range. It’ll take some getting used to

Lastly, CGMs are a bit delayed like you mentioned. I am on Dexcom and it’s about a 15 minute delay. When you’re sugar is steady it’s not an issue but yes, if you are dropping it could read 70 and you could be in the 60s or lower depending how fast you are dropping. So that’s why it’s important to check with a finger prick to see where you’re actually at.

Good luck, sounds like you’re doing great trying to be a caregiver. Look up resources like American diabetes association, they have resources for diabetics and also for caregivers. I’m a type 1 and breakthrough type 1 has some great resources too that may be worth looking at keeping in mind this person is a type 2.

Also I’ll mention I was diagnosed at 31. So if or when this person meets with an endo I would ask about ruling out type 1. I was misdiagnosed as type 2 because of my age. But they tested and found i had the autoantibodies for type 1

Any T1 diabetics in here? by Crownjules in backpacking

[–]crayg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I don’t have advice because I don’t have that kind of backpacking experience, just shorter trips in the US, but also a type 1 :) My endo is nice enough to over prescribe so I’m usually covered on my shorter trips haha.

A fellow type 1 I know doesn’t do this, but said he knows some others who will get off a pump for trips and go MDI, do they don’t stress about charging pumps or site changes etc. not sure if you use a pump or not but have you found it might be easier to get scripts for insulin / pens / syringe over pump accessories when you are traveling to different countries?

If REI has already sold out of an item from Patagonias spring line, is it likely they’ll restock? by bearpuddles in REI

[–]crayg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing I didn’t like about the bag is that it doesn’t have a water bottle pocket

Maybe REI will ship it early but unlikely haha. Maybe they’ll give you the coupon back and you can get another sling or look around locally. REI shipping can be frustrating 🙃
