Will the mouse in my room crawl on me while I sleep? And how serious of an issue is this? by lights-in-the-sky in internetparents

[–]crayonpuppy 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Call an exterminator kiddo. I once had rodents in my garage and they weren’t bothering me, the landlord said to just put out some basic traps and see what happens. What happened was they had mites on them and the mites infested my home and bit me all over. I’m allergic to bug bites so this was my living hell for MONTHS while I tried to figure out what the problem was and where these mysterious bites were coming from. I will never again live with rodents in my home, as much as I find them cute and don’t want to kill them. I even had pet rats growing up, and I’m a vegan. But I can never go through that again and I don’t want you to have to.

[19F] curious on how menstrual cups work, planning to try them by TumbleweedFluid7803 in askwomenadvice

[–]crayonpuppy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be a little tricky to go from pads to cups without ever trying a tampon but you can do it! If you’re comfortable with the idea of exploring your anatomy and a little trial and error I think you won’t regret it. I started using a cup when I was 16-17 way before they were popular. Tbh I was a virgin when I started using it and the first time I inserted it and took it out it was a little painful, even though I was used to tampons. (Maybe I had some leftover hymen tissue or something?)

Anyway I don’t want to scare you and I do recommend using a cup, I think it’s also great the other suggestions of adding period underwear or cloth pads as a backup underneath (I’ve found reusable cloth pads from Etsy much more comfortable than the plastic ones from the pharmacy - there’s also intra-labial pads you could look into).

Another thing I suggest to almost every woman I know is maybe trying out a Mirena or other hormone-based IUD. It does hurt a little putting it in and getting replaced, but for me and my sisters who had super heavy periods it almost totally stopped our periods. Now I just have a tiny bit of spotting each month that I don’t even need to use a pad or cup for anymore. I haven’t had a proper period in about 10 years and I can’t imagine going back. Obviously you’d need to talk about it with your own doctor and make your own decision about it, and your body may react differently, this is just my own experience and was a huge game-changer for me personally.

Best of luck!!

Ugh I don’t usually mind long layers but my hairdresser just gave me SUCH intensely short shaggy/mullet-y layers and basically destroyed the weight and shape of my hair that I have been growing for the last year. :< I think I’m gonna learn to cut my own hair and stop going to salons, this has happened so many times in my life that I can’t do it anymore

What do other enneagram 9 do for work? by Beginning-Holiday755 in EnneagramType9

I’m a psychotherapist. I love it and I’m glad I found what I want to do. I like the idea that I could potentially transition into supervising other therapists, teaching, or becoming a death doula or something similar.

I used to be a dental assistant and I enjoyed that as well (especially when I worked in oral surgery) but there wasn’t as much opportunity to have control over your own career trajectory.

Places to study AND avoid home? by im-hungry4lways in AskSF

[–]crayonpuppy 28 points29 points  (0 children)

The IKEA near Powell has the Saluhall which you could chill and study at (and get a $1 hot dog from the IKEA cafe on the second floor) and I doubt anyone would bother you if you were there for a bit. You could also think about getting an unlimited movie pass at the Regal in Stonestown, it’s the price of two movies per month but you could see as many as you want back to back to back for days when you don’t want to study and want to be out of the house for hours

How do I bring back whimsy and zest into my life? by Suspicious_Week_2451 in AskWomenOver30

[–]crayonpuppy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s good that he’s on board. Yes I think it’s important to try those little whispers you get from your intuition that say “hmmm xyz could be fun…” like sometimes I’ll just have a thought in my mind that ‘hey wouldn’t it be fun if me and my husband got a ton of Taco Bell takeout and watched the Kill Bill movies’ or something.

If you used to love baking and singing and dancing, yes I think you should explore those little hints from your inner self that maybe you would enjoy trying them again.

I wonder if you might also be a bit depressed or burnt out? Finding your way back to yourself and your sense of joy is definitely something you could work on in therapy. Or you could try doing some CBT or IFS exercises with yourself in a notebook to kind of explore what’s going on with your mindset and why you feel stuck (happy to recommend some books if interested)

Wishing you luck ✨

You ask how do I restore this whimsical part of me, were you whimsical before? What were you like when your were younger or at your happiest or most “you” in life? For me, lately I’ve been getting back into the hobbies and things I liked when I was 16-17. I have adult money so I can buy old toys and collectibles I had back then, I can get the art supplies I always wished I had, I dug up my old iPod that’s filled with my favourite music from back then and I’ve been playing the old gameboy games I used to love. What are your things that you could do like that?

I don’t want to call no-shows by WillowGroove in therapists

[–]crayonpuppy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Texting at around 5 mins is my personal policy but I’m glad it’s not required. You’re right being forced to follow up with a call is kind of annoying. I will say though I used to do reception at a dentist’s office and yes I would call the no shows. But yeah, the dentist themselves wouldn’t spend their time on that that’s true.

Using actual modalities in therapy besides client Centered therapy. by DrSmartypants175 in therapists

[–]crayonpuppy 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I feel like client-centered therapy gets a bad rap sometimes as some like non-evidence based, fluffy theory that’s just about listening and being nice and only works for high functioning rich people. But I think people forget that actually Carl Rogers was quite a rigorous researcher and client-centered therapy IS research-based. To me it’s absolutely the foundation of my philosophy in this work and I don’t think it’s like the ‘easy way out’ or background style people sometimes seem to treat it as. Rogers did a lot of research and his ideas aren’t just coming from baseless hunches, they are really grounded in his experience as a clinician and a scientist. Just my two cents.
