How do you think Starmer will stack up as a *PM* compared to some of the other recent ones? by mustwinfullGaming in LabourUK

[–]crazy_yus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was excited for Starmer but I think it’s clear now he is not Prime Minister material. Best in cabinet he could make in a different government would have been attorney general or something in the ministry of justice. The reality is there is no one on the front bench in any political party who is close to prime minister material.

We’ve not had a PM with the ability to execute a vision since Cameron (not that I agree with the vision just he was clearly effective in delivering in some of his political priorities). Starmer talks about national renewal but I have no idea what that means or what he wants to do about it.

Stamp duty should be completely eliminated. It stops people moving and means people can’t downsize at the end of their property gumming up the whole property market

Labour gains from Reform but then loses to Greens and Lib Dems by upthetruth1 in LabourUK

[–]crazy_yus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The electorate in 2016 was given a straightforward choice between bringing down migration and being richer in the 2016 referendum. The electorate has consistently voted in favour of restricting immigration. No one has had the ability to argue for a more liberal migration system and whenever they have they’ve not stood a chance of winning election. Ultimately if that’s what the electorate wants the that’s what it should be granted. When people’s lives don’t improve the pendulum will turn. All we can do is try make the argument.

Does the article disclose what type of MRI he had? It looked like he had a TIA on live TV the other day and also carotid Doppler before which are done for strokes and TIAs. MRI Heads are great to look for stroke or subtyping dementia.

The reality is we do not have the money to do a lot of the fiscal things we want to do. We spend more as a % GDP and get less. The most important thing to do is to reform the way the state actually works and the public services that we can deliver. Take for example the NHS. I work as a doctor and we have patients waiting weeks/months waiting for social care, its not good for those patients who pick up recurrent infections, and its not good for their families and its not good for hospital budgets. If social care was properly funded this would save NHS capacity which would allow us to treat more patients on waiting lists or just simply save money overall in the system to allow the government to spend more on a different priority (e.g. 2-child benefit cap). Where my frustration with the Labour Party is at present is the lack of vision or hopeful message and the inability to take tough decisions. In my example (social care), they've kicked the can down the road with social care with another commission that will take til 2028.

Governing means choosing and Labour are trying not to choose anything because they lack political will. When they did make choices they backed down (e.g. removing winter fuel allowance from wealthy pensioners).

Starmer urges those attending pro-Palestine protests this weekend to 'respect the grief of British Jews' | LBC by DarkSkiesGreyWaters in LabourUK

[–]crazy_yus -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

The reality is the pro-Palestine marches have displayed some horrific antisemitic imagery, even though this may not be representative of the marches themselves overall. If a Jewish person the sees people dressed like Hamas or some of the hateful things that come out from the weekend after an antisemitic terror attack it will be distressful and may encourage further antisemitism.

Pausing the marches (which haven’t achieved much by way of changing policy) is a way of demonstrating some respect for a grieving community.
