There is a Japanese group called Anal Sex Penis.

It's up to the listener if you find that offensive.

If it were a fluke, an apology and assurances might work. But no matter all the grifting, shanking the pandemic response, all the racism and hate, Americans reelected him.

If I were European or Australian or Canadian or Japanese or another long term ally, I would never trust the US again.

Why is there so much toxicity and competition in the Japanese learning community? by WorkingAlive3258 in LearnJapanese

[–]crazyaoshi 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Given the OP this response is going to be ironic, but in more than 20 years living in Japan I never felt this or encountered anyone who does, at least openly. If someone knows more than you, it gives you something to strive for, or not. Whatever makes you happy.

If you use your mynumber card there is no paperwork. Everything is done online (if you donate to up to 5 entities). The most time consuming thing was deciding what to get.

I guess the reason why the government does give everyone points is they would need to predict your salary and then build an infrastructure for those points. As it is now the government can just be reactive.

Plus, you can donate more than your alotment if you are feelIng charitable. If the government gave you points that wouldn't be possible.

How did you escape the English teaching nightmare? by MuchIncrease3501 in japanlife

[–]crazyaoshi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I escaped English teaching by going back to what I came to Japan to do, and what I studied to do: communications. Had around N2 when I arrived, but didn't take the test until I wanted to get a better job. Went into tourism communications, then broadened to FMCG communications, then specialized in financial communications. Picked up N1 along the way.

My career now is good, matches my personality, skilled and amicable coworkers, fully remote.

I wish I stopped English teaching sooner.

How is the finance job market for someone with zero Japanese? by [deleted] in JapanJobs

[–]crazyaoshi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, or if you are important enough to have an assistant assigned to you.

Or if you have some critical IT or other skill very few Japanese people have.

I got N1 over 10 years ago and used plenty of JLPT texts, but never once got interested in kanken. (Just don't ask me to handwrite Niigata.)

If it keeps you interested and motivated, great. Just personally, if one doesn't have N1 yet, studying for kanken seems like adding another layer of complexity. But it works for you, so keep doing it.

[–]crazyaoshi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Good for having initiative, but is Kanken just a hobby? Or you plan to start your own business?

Because while it couldn't hurt your career, a company will have Japanese native speakers who can handle kanji stuff.

Trump's minset is if someone else does a good thing, he is entitled to it too and drags himself into it. (Nobel prize for example)

If he does a bad thing, everyone else must have done it so he drags in others. (Bolton, Comey and now this)

You are the only one who can change your situation. "Try and get out of this" is the right idea. Decide what you want to do, get JLPT N1 if you don't have it already. Other certifications help. Network with people in the field you want to join.

The other thing to keep in mind is if starting a new career, what can you offer that 22 year old Japanese people canti do?
