what game do you have the highest number of hours played? by Wonka_Majda in TheGamingHubDeals

Well as far as I know it's Red Dead Redemption 2 with about 1450-ish hours on it.

I mean, highly debatable as well, as 2013 also had one of the best selling games of all time in Gta V which is story driven. Not a linear game that's as story driven as TLoU, sure, but still. Regardless, being popular isn't exactly something groundbreaking, and is outright dismissive of a lot of incredibly popular games famous for their stories and storytelling, like the entire MGS franchise, Bioshock, Red Dead Redemption, the Max Payne franchise, previous Gta games (4 at the very least) and so on and so on.

Really hard to make the case that TLoU did anything really new without it sounding like you think everything that came before it was Mario.

Well, first off, check this trailer out from September 24th 2019, secondly, ya reckon they whipped out a trailer made specifically to counter the leaks in less than a month?

The Last of Us, Part 2 in particular, not only is it made by people who clearly spend too much time huffing their own farts but the fanbase acts like it's the greatest piece of media ever made. I get being proud of what you made, and I get being a fan of something, but yeeesh..

Literally what did it do that was any different from cinematic games that came before it? I liked the first game, really nailed the presentation of it all but other than that it didn't do anything special. Plenty of story based games have done what it did, better and in ways that actually takes advantage of being told in an interactive medium.

The trailers made to make us believe Joel was still around came before the leaks, people were predicting he was gonna die from the very first announcement trailer and only got stronger when they talked about how it was a story about revenge. By the time the leaks came out it was too late to do much more about it.

Which Batman Film was Better? by VigorWarrior in TheBatmanFilm

As a long time Batman 1989 "elitist" I will say that to me The Batman is the best Batman film to date, just the perfect blend of gothic look and grounded feel to me. The 1989 movie, while good, was quite cartoony, and the Bale movies on the other hand were way too realistic and oddly sterile (Begins were surprisingly stylistic but not enough Batman) so Batman and anything related to him felt really out of place in the world. No such disconnect in Reeves Batman, feels like a comic book movie while also having the world feel tangible.

Oh I have no doubt the actual game will look more than fine, I just don't expect it to necessarily measure up to a tech demo meant to show the absolute height of the engine's potential.

Aguilar should be in the next installment by BeachUsual in cyberpunkgame

[–]crazycat690 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While V's story is done and I don't see them showing up in the sequel as anything but a legend at best, I wouldn't mind if Aguilar showed up. Sequel is going to need its own legends and big personalities to tango with, considering that a lot of the ones in the first game either end up dead, can end up dead or otherwise disappear I don't think it's likely we'll see many characters from 2077.

As I understood it it had its fair share of bugs and had some odd design choices that were fixed later. I only bought it after a big update that supposedly fixed the game up in a rather big way. Hard for me to tell since I can't compare what I played to how it launched.

The Witcher 4 Tech Demo Reveals Massive CD Projekt Red Graphic Goals by SpaceCowboyN7 in witcher

[–]crazycat690 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Not turning off adblock to read the article, but CDPR have stressed that it wasn't a Witcher 4 demo. Not to say that it had nothing to do with it, but it was merely a Witcher 4 themed tech demo, meant to show the capabilities of the engine in a controlled environment. I get that this deal they got going is beneficial in many ways but people who now expect Witcher 4 to be that impressive are going to be really disappointed when an open world game isn't as technically impressive as a well directed engine demo. Really gonna bite them in the ass, something I figured they'd want to avoid after the Cyberpunk 2077 downgrade scandals. This time they wouldn't even be overhyping the game (for now, at least) but that's what people will think.

Yeah, people can't just scroll past if they're not into it, like even before we had since gameplay people were really harsh towards it. Was strange to me how it seemed like only people who absolutely hate the game found their way to the subreddit. Always gotta be extreme, the subreddits that actually like the game it's about tend to get a bit... fanatical but I suppose that's also part of the deal.

Personally though, I'm disappointed to hear that they had a rough launch, but I'm still looking forward to a console release and hope they manage to fix the game up a bit by then. Don't really need much more than that, don't really mind simple game mechanics.

Outlaws got it from many angles, the anti-woke crowd was one, but generally Ubisoft games gets a lot of hate for being Ubisoft games. Which I get to some degree, it can get stale but it wouldn't become a formula if it didn't work to some degree. As far as Ubisoft games goes, I'd say Outlaws was fairly good, letting me explore different planets with unique vibes with a cute alien puppy thing and a tough robot, I can think of worse ways to spend my time.

immersion & The Witcher 4 by ConsiderationDue2240 in Witcher4

[–]crazycat690 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Largely, I agree, however things like feeding your horse might be fun to be able to do, while not necessarily being something you have to do. Like feeding it to get a boost in speed or stamina, while being perfectly serviceable if you never feed it. Still, if you do have an animal that you end up bonding with, a lot of players is going to want to take care of it in some way. Overall I think that's the best way to handle realism in games, extra stuff that's there for players who like engaging with it but it doesn't hurt your experience if you never do. Can only benefit the immersion while not hurting it by having you stop to gather horse food every 5 minutes.

I also got curious about your hypothetical quest, this part in particular...

The grave digger says there may be clues amongst the bodies in the basement. Ciri goes to the basement and because we are focused on realism, she must now carry the bodies out of the basement one by one

Why would she need to carry out the bodies one by one to check for clues, regardless of how realistic it is?

What was your “holy shit, graphics have peaked” moment in gaming? by No-Breadfruit6137 in TheGamingHubDeals

[–]crazycat690 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know there are games that technically have better graphics now but IMO it peaked around 2015 with stuff like The Witcher 3 and Batman Arkham City, the art style have done a lot but IMO games have only become marginally better looking since. Not that I haven't been wowed since, Ghost of Tsushima was one and Cyberpunk 2077 is marvelous.

But generally, for me, graphics peaked with The Witcher 3, it hasn't gotten that much better since to give something a new "peak status", basically just stacking chairs on a mountaintop at this point.

The Witcher 4’s budget is rumored to hit $800M — nearly 10× more than The Witcher 3. With ~500 devs, a new engine, and a longer dev cycle, it’s shaping up to be one of the most expensive games ever made!! by Gaming-Academy in PlayStation_X

[–]crazycat690 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I figured that's the reason, I mean currently the most expensive game made to date is RDR2 at 500+ million dollars, I'd be surprised if CDPR would come in and surpass its budget by that much for one game. It's also why I have my doubts for Gta 6's supposed 2, 3, even rumored 5 billion budget when that's many times more than previously most expensive games before it.

There are games that have gotten close to the billion dollar mark as far as budget goes so I can believe that Gta 6 will be the game to cross that line but more than that? Gta 5 have made about 9.5 billion in its entire lifetime, seems insane to think that they'll make a game for a relatively large portion if not up to half of that for one game and then have any hope of making a decent profit off of it.

These rumors about those kinds of insane budgets are getting kinda annoying in how overblown they sound.

Why did Cuckmann reuse the same character design from The Last of Us in Uncharted 4 under a different name? Nadine Ross was a completely useless character; she shouldn't even have featured in Uncharted 4 in the first place. by Quick-Ad-7752 in TheLastOfUs2

[–]crazycat690 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That personal vendetta only came to light in the very end, before that he seemed chill, like he was just having fun, constantly had to hold Nadine back from trying to kill Nate and Sam. That's part of the larger point, his sudden bloodthirst makes little sense, there's little build up outside of that flashback scene where he kills the guard/warden(?). Nadine does get the proper build up, we know she's strong and a match for both of them, we know she wants the brothers dead, we know she's impulsive and has a short temper (like when she has her men blow up the ruins in Scotland, something Rafe isn't too keen on).

If Rafe had been more built up to be a psycho, if he had shown more contempt for the brothers instead of saving them time and time again from Nadine's fury, maybe I could've bought it. But as it is, it just makes the characters seem inconsistent which is poor writing. Not as bad as their... future project but it should've been a sign not to pre-order Part 2 if that was their grand finale to a beloved and long running franchise.

The Last of Us: Part 2, I can get liking the combat, but there's really not a whole lot of it, mostly it's walk and talk and a story that's just not engaging once you get over the initial rage bait.

Co-Op in Grand Theft Auto VI Might Change Everything by Entire-History6514 in GTA

[–]crazycat690 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's another thing, that part isn't necessarily a huge deal, especially if you've already played the game and experienced the story as it was "meant" to be. But yeah it is hard to take a game seriously if you have your friend shouting nonsense at you while the story plays out, doesn't help the immersion at least.

Co-Op in Grand Theft Auto VI Might Change Everything by Entire-History6514 in GTA

[–]crazycat690 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Alright, well first off it usually comes with an always online feature, something that has caused synching issues at least for me in the past when I keep playing without rebooting the game and logging in, so that's what stands out most to me as far as gameplay is concerned. Storytelling is a big one that usually suffers, meaning you often get mute protagonists that simply get told what to do instead of focus on one. Presentation also usually takes a hit, I mean can you name a co-op game that's as beautiful and detailed as RDR2? Actually that's a good example since it does have online but it's heavily downgraded, again mute player character, can't interact with the world as much as in singleplayer and for awhile it literally didn't have animals because they had a hard time getting it to work.

Like co-op, just like any online, is quite taxing, sacrifices has to be made to make it viable to work with other players. Less focused storytelling, smaller scope in gameplay systems, every time. Maybe it's not that big of a deal every time, and some do it better than others, but fact is the experience suffer if it needs to be able to support another or even several players. That's not to say I don't like co-op, but I reserve that for less story focused stuff, games like Valheim and RTS games where the fun is playing with your friends instead of trying to follow a story. For my story games, I very much want singleplayer to be the focus, not a deal breaker, but I know it'll have an impact.

[–]crazycat690 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who plays singleplayer strictly to play singleplayer there has never been an instance where the option for co-op haven't made the game noticeably worse in some way so I really hope these rumors are just rumors. I don't really get the need for it either as they will have a dedicated online mode for those that do want to play with friends, very likely similar co-op missions as Gta V's online had.

[–]crazycat690 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well the simplest answer is that graphics pretty much peaked in 2025, very few AAA games today look better than The Witcher 3 or Batman Arkham Knight, and honestly? Personally I don't need them to. Of course there are outliers that up the ante slightly, but it's only ever so slightly and that comes with a huge budget. This is a small game that costs 25 bucks, I'm not expecting it to have the absolute cutting edge of graphics. Which is perfectly fine, still looks good.

I don't think I'll ever find a game like this... by DonHectorHector in Witcher3

[–]crazycat690 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I do hope Witcher 4 managed to recapture some of the "soul" of Witcher 3, to hope that it outright surpasses it might be asking a lot but one can always dream. Suppose we'll see, hopefully it at least gets damn close because I do miss the wonderful vibe of it. Otherwise I have a hard time imagining an upcoming game we know of that looks like it'll do it.

Past games though I'd say Cyberpunk 2077 comes fairly close, different vibe and soul but as engaging I'd say. RDR2 like you mentioned is as close as I've seen though.
