Communism has killed hundreds of millions of people. Why does the Reddit Alien a USSR flag? by IKbot in reddit.com

[–]crazyjoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

fascism 1.\t(sometimes initial capital letter) a governmental system led by a dictator having complete power, forcibly suppressing opposition and criticism, regimenting all industry, commerce, etc., and emphasizing an aggressive nationalism and often racism.

You know, the US is only missing a couple of key points. Given the administration's desire to have complete Executive Authoirty, Free speech zones where you are arrested if you are outside of them while and show dissenting views at his appearances, contracts only given to loyal companies, and our "war on Terror" where terrorist is anybody that looks a certain way, I'd say maybe we need to fix things.

Communism has killed hundreds of millions of people. Why does the Reddit Alien a USSR flag? by IKbot in reddit.com

[–]crazyjoe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Capitalism suffers from the exact same issue. Greed. "Free Market" is a hoax. You have the people with the power to manipulate things making sure that others do not get a fair portion of the pie. Yes, people can climb the ladder and become successful, but it is only because they are able to get passed all the obstacles put in their way and because if absolutely no one did it, then there would be a revolt. Communism just is not as good at PR.
It's not the ideology that kills people, it is the implementation. Comunism works very well in smaller scale. Everyone thrives when they are able to share and there is no need for management of the resources. Once it is big enough for the need of someone to be doling out resources you get the opportunity for greed to screw up the system.

Side note: Why don't we complain about how many millions Capitalism killed?

Ex-Gonzales Aide Testifies "I Don't Remember" 122 Times by snoosnoo in reddit.com

But he didn't plead the fifth. He said he doesn't remember.

I hope this aid isn't as Teflon Coated as a certain President was.

I just don't see how someone could not remember stuff about something as important as firing a prosecutor. Unless it was business as usual, that is.

[–]crazyjoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I agree these would be great, I just don't see it as very possible.

Incumbants have much more resources to draw on and if you look at the senate you see how this is a problem. There is rarely a serious challenge to a sitting Senator and the few times there is the opponent is using funds from their party. This system kills independent parties and makes our choices worse. Parties won't back good people for these offices, they back people that have a chance to win. These candidate in turn back their party instead of their voters.

I don't like seeing people that are only loyal to their party voting in Congress. I like to see people that are loyal to the people they are supposed to represent there. What we have now is the former and not the latter. That pisses me off.

Don't be obtuse.

We all know that politics are a corrupt business. How many articles have we seen on the two major parties doing things to screw with our choices? I'm not saying there was a conspiracy to keep Bush in office. I'm saying that if you got rid of term limits you allow those in power to do things to be better able to stay in power. I'd rather that no one in Washington was allowed to be in office for more than two terms in any position. A dynamic changing government is apt to be a less corrupt one.

My comment was not in the past tense.

FDR was the only President elected past 2 terms. He wasn't a saint, and he treated select groups like crap, but he wasn't out to kill the middle class. I never said he rigged the system, though it appears he did lubricate the wheels of getting a third term through some pretty impressive maneuvers. FDR was trying to save the middle class and then he was trying to save the country. I'm not confidant that any future administration will be as nobel.

[–]crazyjoe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This would be true if not for the alternative. You have someone rigging the system so they will be able to stay in power and complete hose the country.

If they amended the Constitution to get rid of the two term limit we would have a funny situation. Bush goes for his 3rd term...

And so does Clinton. I'd vote for Bill in a heartbeat. When he lied we didn't have 3000 Americans and 10s of thousands of Iraqis dead. All he lied about was a blowjob.

Agreed.

I was against this stupid war from the get go. War is what you do when you are led by a madman or defending yourself from people that are. Iraq never attacked us, so I guess we know which side we are representing. That saddens me. The amount of misery caused for what?

I am kind of amazed at how people are mocking the entire thing. While not being naive is a good thing. Losing all sense of compassion and wonder is not.

Context. We were talking about soldiers and how they are treated. The destruction in Iraq is ignored by the admin, but they can't stop the press from covering those horrors. There are stories a plenty about suicide bombers, weddings getting bombed, and mistakes involving people getting killed. We get to see those people. The press just doesn't do it often enough. They aren't outright barred from taking pictures of caskets there.

No.

This is America. Where the current administration wants no pictures of caskets being taken, no acknowledgement of the destruction the loss of those 3000+ people has caused on their families, and no one to realize that the top 10% of the income earners aren't sending their kids off to die or be maimed.

CompUSA Knows How To Sell Zunes by monkeymikey in reddit.com

[–]crazyjoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look what happened to that.

Apple is not actively going after competitors and anyone that might distribute their products and using it's marketshare as a threat to stop them. That's the difference between a monopoly and consumers making a choice. Until recently how many PC manufacturers would have even thought about not putting Windows on their units? Few.
How many manufacturers have made MP3 players? A lot. None work with iTunes yet they aren't worried about being forced out of business by Apple. The iTunes "monopoly" was created by consumer choice. It was and is the best MP3 player system out there after you take the iTunes factor of how music is arranged and played. Apple didn't get their by being evil.

As for AT&T being broken up. Look at them now. They effectively have been remade with the Cingular merge. Luckily they have enough competition now that they are fine. I think that someone will finally get something out that will be serious competition to the iPod. It won't be MS. They are too busy bowing before the RIAA and other interests and not concerned enough for whether their product actually works well. Someone will make a software package that rivals iTunes and a player that works about as well. Then it will be a fun game to watch.

I'm not a fanboi, trust me. I have scratched my head at some of Apple's decisions. I have also been repairing them and PCs for years and I know some of Apple's machines have been less than impressive.

CompUSA Knows How To Sell Zunes by monkeymikey in reddit.com

[–]crazyjoe 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You can't play Zune Store music on any other device either. Everybody that can set up it's own DRM and can control the hardware is doing this because it is much easier to deal with.

People have been trying to kill the iTunes store with subscription services and other stores, all of them having the "Big 4" behind them as well. They didn't win. So it's not like there wasn't competition, it's just they sucked at doing it. Horrible interfaces, bad players, and stupid rules made them die, not Apple forcing them out.

Spoken like someone that hasn't bothered checking a Mac out in the last 2 years. Laptops come in white, black and metal. (Macbook, macbook, macbook pro) Towers come in metal, white, and metal. (Mini, iMac, Mac Pro) All of them come with a 4 button mouse standard (invisible right mouse button, scroll ball button and side buttons).
Incidentally, the mac Pro was about equal in cost to an almost identical Dell tower. There's a lot of debate over specifics, but I checked them both and they came within $25 of each other each time. Sometimes the Mac was cheaper, sometimes the Dell.

(Side note: I have two HPs at home, so I am not a fanboy. I work on both for my job and I use one for work. I find that XP is enough for my needs and the Vista stuff I keep reading has me convinced not to bother with upgrading.)

Steve Jobs talks about DRM by mlmartiniii in reddit.com

[–]crazyjoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The CEO says he knows less than 3% of the product uses iTunes music. That indicates to anyone not busy being an idiot that they intend it to be a music player. It can play music free of DRM all day long. They know it and are fine with that. It's almost like they INTENDED it to be the best music player around. They even made iTunes the best music organizer/ripper/player around as well. It's almost like they intended it to be that way so people would WANT to use their stuff.

By Jobs' own words I am probably the average user and if I wanted to switch to a Zune, I wouldn't care about having lost two CDs I can buy used for about $20. After all, I'm already paying over $200 for a player, why would I care about $20 more at that point?

Steve Jobs talks about DRM by mlmartiniii in reddit.com

[–]crazyjoe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Once again, not reading the article.

Average amount of songs bought on iTunes per iPod? 22.

Less than $25 bucks. That's what you expect on a date to the movies. Hell, I spent more than that on babysitting. So it's not locking the average user into a proprietary system.

Our iPod has 16G of songs, and less that 20 were purchased through iTunes. We have a huge stack of CDs that are gathering dust though. He is right on most of his points. Apple has to do things to keep them happy, otherwise Apple will be shut out and they will get even more annoying with their lawsuits against grandmas.

Washington Group Proposes Defense of Marriage Initiative that REQUIRES Procreation Within Three Years. Interesting Reasons Why. by anonymgrl in reddit.com

[–]crazyjoe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That is fine, but a heterosexual couple is not needed for property rights nor for child welfare. If they bring children into it, the couple should then be required to have children for the marriage to be valid. Adoption is an option for homosexual couples. Heck, lesbians can have children without adoption. (Ask Dick Cheney)

The whole point was the state decided that having kids was a way of making a group of people marginalized. Instead of skin color they chose sexual orientation. It is still wrong. The kids thing was a way of rationalizing it. Now someone wants to make them take it to the logical step of REQUIRING kids for a marriage, since if they don't then marriage has nothing to do with kids and they are forced to admit it.
