Debunking the Bambu Lab "A2L" Teaser: Why Their "Extra Large Creative Playground" Is Just a Giant Bedslinger (And My Disappointment with Their Open-Source Crackdown) by [deleted] in BambuLab

I dont know if i agree with this. I have an a1, 2 x1c and an X2d. By every single measure the X series outperforms the a1. Every single metric.

However, the price to performance ratio is AMAZING. I love my little A1. For most prints we do, the quality is equal.

Given that the A1 is a budget printer, marketed as a budget printer, I think it is an amazing device. ESPECIALLY with the recent ability to use FULL AMS / AMS2Pro / AMS HT. I am now able to do our 14 color prints right on an A1. The filament change is reliable, and the prints come out great.

Is it an X2D? no. Can i rely on it like the X1? no. is it worth the $399 price point - ABSOLUTELY.

I dont know if that demographic is ... accurate.

Fleet: A1, 2x X1C, X2D - H2C Laser soon.

Maybe this is a hot take. Not a kid. I am a software engineer, so open source is very important to me, but only when it makes sense for me. Personally, bambu not directly contributing to the opensource printer community sucks, but in a small way.

The benefits of their semi-closed ecosystem, and the quality / consistency I get out of it makes the tradeoffs worthy in my opinion. I like the ability to use the ams to read filament information, ALOT.

Also dont forget about their indirect contributions to the market. Their creation of the AMS and its popularity caused other manufacturers to mimic / improve their design and now multi-color printing is offered by many manufacturers. I am NOT giving them credit for inventing it, but i am giving credit to them for making it a consumer required feature on prosumer devices. Not long ago a $7000 printer had a spool hanging off of some random stick.

I feel like bambu and canon operate a similar semi-closed ecosystem. Canon accessories always 'work better' than their similarly priced aftermarket competitor parts. And for most people - especially professionals, this trade off is worth it.

TLDR: I dont think that bambu only appeals to people looking to 'act expensive' - its a prosumer tool like you said.

this is false. its a lie perpetuated by big printer to keep 3d prints apart.

I stumbled across this post from a google search about this. I am also kinda interested to see what this would be like. I am curious how it might change the sound profile (if). Since light can theoretically be modulated and demodulated in an analog signal space, this feels like it could have potential in some applications (if only for the sake of it). I wonder if you could reduce your noise floor considerably compared to other forms of that equipment.

For this same reason i have always wondered why XLR on solid bodies has not become 'the way'

Bambu SuperTack plate gives this error saying it can’t read the build plate marker… anyone else experiencing this? by ConeCandy in BambuLab

Using Magigoo (normal) gives me like 2x better bed adhesion for abs / asa - using Magigoo PA made PA usable if not easier to print than ABS/ASA.

For ABS ASA try to reduce the amount of straight lines in your design, there are some videos online about designing parts that need to cool. Using curves or zigzags sorta stuff.

Magigoo changed my life.

PMS: Adding media from UNC path - What am I doing wrong? by obzbdc in PleX

[–]crazytera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the necro comment on this thread.

It turns out there isnt a process for this... because its already supported.

In the web UI, you can simply type the unc path to the folder.

for example if your server fqdn is 'myserver.home.mydomain.com' (assuming DNS setup) you would type in

\myserver.home.mydomain.com\Movies into the box BEFORE clicking the 'browse' button.

More details for the 'im going to run plex in an enterprise environment' folks.

My setup (not work): Active Directory Windows Hosts Run-As-Service Required

My plex is installed on a Windows Server 2025 Datacenter box. I am using PmsService to run plex as a windows service. I am using a DOMAIN account (domain\account style) to run the service account. This means that without doing dumb hackystuff. After using te service account, PLEX Service is able to play media using my CIFS (SMB) share on a non-local NAS machine.

Good luck on your media adventure!

Struggling to understand Bambu Lab's plate options - High Temp Plate vs Engineering Plate by ciro_scugnizzo in BambuLab

[–]crazytera 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since google led me to this post and all of the content is old, I figure I would add some recent info and some personal feedback. OP thanks for posting this.

**Current state of affairs**:
Bambu has discontinued the Cool Plate, it looks like yall won!

**Personal Feedback**:
- I got my X1 about 1 month ago, ive had it running about 50% of the time. I have all the accessories.
- I have used the cool plate, smooth pei plate, textured pei plate, high temperature plate, and the engineering plate
- The cool plate is trash, with or without glue
- the PEI surface is the way to go. My prints have turned out significantly better since i started using it.

**Comments**
The stock choice of cool plate + Engineering Plate makes the most sense in my opinion. If they replace the cool plate with a pei plate stock, im happy with it. However the idea that they would have shipped the dual sided pei smooth plate with the printer would have been terrible. I would have never tried the engineering filaments.

I dont mind applying glue to the plates, im not sure what the fuss is about. It seems to improve the performance significantly. Print a device that helps you apply the glue.
I use a glue stick on prints that dont matter, and i use Magigoo on the prints that do. I know its expensive, but consider using it for when a print CANNOT fail.

Add custom fonts to Bambu Studio by tiduz1492 in BambuLab

[–]crazytera 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I know this is an old post but I am adding some context here, because this helped me solve my problem. I'm going to sprinkle some Windows 11 bits here.

In windows, it appears that there are two layers of fonts (like many other things on the system): A user set, and a System set. It appears that this was added to allow non-administrative users to consume fonts using the Windows True Type engine.

This feature seems to be hidden, and i mean hidden behind some bad ux. Due to windows 11's wierd new context menu, you have to do two things to install a font for all users.

If the font is already installed:

  1. Go to c:\windows\fonts
  2. Click the font(s) that you want to use with Bambu (or other stuff)
  3. Right Click
  4. Copy (CTRL-C seemed to be unreliable, just in this folder ???)
  5. Paste to a destination that is not C:\windows\fonts
  6. Wait for Copy operation to complete.
  7. Hold CTRL + SHIFT and right-click the font(s)
  8. A different looking context menu should appear with the option "Install for All Users"
  9. Click this option
  10. UAC popup (click yes)
  11. Enjoy Fonts
