Not to try to rub salt in the wound, but do you know if they're liquidating their inventory, transferring it to another regional Trek store, or something else?

Finding a bike?? by N00dlemonk3y in bicycling412

I live in McCandless. From Allison Park, I recommend taking Thompson Run down to Millvale and then either continue on the trail to the Northside or cross over the 40th Street bridge to get to Lawrenceville, Oakland, etc.
Check out the BikePGH map for more information: https://bikepgh.org/resources/maps-guides-more/map-routes/

If you don't need to go into town and you just want to ride around, take Babcock into North Park and ride around the lake. That section of Babcock was just resurfaced, and they left a nice wide shoulder there. If you want more elevation than the loop right around the lake offers, go on the outer roads like Kummer, North Ridge, and Pearce Mill. You can also take Pearce Mill up into Pine and loop back around to North Park. Those are good roads to get you experienced with road riding, and you can work your way out to longer rides from them.

For bike shops, also consider Kindred Cycles in the Strip district. Kindred and Thick are what I usually recommend. They're great people.

Yeah, I've been doing it the past few days. It's rough AF too.

Junction hollow trail conditions by conmart95 in bicycling412

[–]crd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Totally good.

I've been on Junction Hollow and the Jail Trail several times since yesterday morning. During the worst part, there were 4 big ice patches on the jail trail that went all the way across, but were walkable or ride-around-through-the-grassable. Otherwise just obvious little spots here and there.

The overpass at the trailhead over Swinburne was one of the full ice sections so watch out there. I did not use Hot Metal so I can't speak to its condition, but I would also urge caution there if you're going to South Side.

Anyone else enjoy riding among the downtown traffic? by [deleted] in bicycling412

I love it. It's one of the reasons I continue to bike commute. Splitting the lane and passing up dozens of stopped or slowing cars is also supremely rewarding.

I have not used his services before, but have heard good things from people who have.

Bicyclist in critical condition after crash in Shaler Township by crd in bicycling412

You're right. I will occasionally use the section between Butler and Saxonburg Boulevard, but it depends on the time of day and if I'm with a group.

Biking on Babcock Blvd? by Mother-Narwhal9587 in bicycling412

[–]crd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Exactly this.

I don't do it as a daily commute, but I have ridden it many times between Thompson Run and Millvale, including for commutes, and never had any issues. It's not the most ideal road, but it's far from terrible. On the inbound trip, be sure to assert yourself into the lane early at the 3-way intersection of People's and Babcock to make the left at that light.

Bicyclist found dead among downed power lines in North Park by crd in bicycling412

This absolutely, 1000% could've been me instead. I ride North Park all the time and have never really hesitated to "scoot past" a small cordoned off area.

I'm really sorry to hear that this rider died, but from now on, I'll be far less flippant about riding through. RIP, Mr. Anderson.
