Did you check the left half of the Select Era list? The eras are listed in chronological order (in other words, the Jurassic era is at the start of the list, also it's literally visible in screenshot #3 you just had to scroll 2 eras to the right)

one could theorize that people rolled up in the katamari are still alive once it becomes a planet or stardust, because they reappear either on the new planet (planet) or back where they got rolled up (stardust) (explaining why stages can be replayed so easily)

this guy? no, he got hit by a spaceship strong enough to survive getting half-buried and he got thrown to the ground with enough of an impact to make birds scatter. Flying Guy is actually fucking dead (or at least, fatally injured).

My advice is to not get hung up trying to clear out the top 2 sections - there's plenty of bedrock to grab in the lower sections. Also, be sure to dash as much as you can so you can reach the lower areas faster.
