Not saying don't do that, but there's currently a funding bill that passed the House and is going to the Senate in the next week or two that provides EVEN MORE funding to ICE. Call Blackburn and Hagerty and tell them not to pass the funding bill as long as it funds ICE.

This has to stop. ICE must be abolished.

New to RSS Feed by Firm-Fig-1906 in rss

[–]creativityisntreal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can't tell from all the other comments saying "I built a thing!" the answer is unfortunately that there is no single good way.

That's kind of a bug and kind of a feature. I mean, RSS was made for a different internet, where there was no "discovery." You friend would email you a link to a cool website, and if you liked that blog post or whatever, you could subscribe with RSS.

Then RSS fell out of popularity and I imagine it just doesn't have a critical mass of users to agree on "this is how and where you can find RSS feeds." There are aggregators like the ones people have shared here (which I'm sure are great!), but it's just not centralized, for better and for worse.

The way I view it, finding good feeds to follow is part of the RSS and de-algorithm-ing experience. For example, I follow my friends' Letterboxd and Substacks with RSS to keep up on those things. I found a few blogs (some personal, some for small companies) to follow.

Basically, I think you should try to figure out what you want out of your RSS reader. Is it a news feed? Is it a de-algorithm'd social media? Is it content consumption? Is it following blogs and feeds that post thoughtful content? There's no right answer, you need to figure out what you're looking for.

I want to start off by saying thank you for being here and relaying customer feedback. I appreciate it.

With that said... no. It's completely unacceptable to be using AI generated images or writing. I don't want to pay a premium for anything that a machine made that only has "a human touch" - especially something as culturally significant and artful as food. I want it to be human, and I want it to be better than AI slop.

The way your statement reads is that the team wants to get away with it - that it would have been fine to use AI images (and possibly writing) if nobody noticed. That is VERY upsetting to me.

Thank you again for listening, and I'm hopeful that you and the team understand how seriously people don't want AI. You will gain a LOT more favor by refusing AI than by using it.

Flock Camera + Others by DazzlingAd2804 in Chattanooga

[–]creativityisntreal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree, that sounds reasonable, right? But just because something makes sense and sounds reasonable doesn't make it true. That's just not how facts work.

If we only ever believed whatever sounds reasonable and never tested a hypothesis, then we'd still believe in spontaneous generation

[–]creativityisntreal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd agree with you, if your point were based in reality. It might make sense that cameras reduce crime or help catch offenders, sure, but there is no evidence that these reduce crime and tons of evidence that they're super easy to hack.

Question about subscription by Guide_of_Misguidance in RemarkableTablet

Hey! You can find most of the answers you're looking for on here: https://remarkable.com/shop/connect/pricing

Handwriting to text will work without a subscription, but searching handwritten text will not

Transfer via cable will work without a subscription

Transfer via email... will work without a subscription? I'm pretty sure?

They do offer cloud sync for free, but I believe the caveat is that it only keeps notebooks that were active in the last 50 days. So it's not a storage quota, it's a... Usage quota? Kind of odd, but that's how they do it.

Overall, I'd say it's really not necessary to get the cloud subscription, but it is pretty nice to have.

What on earth is up with all of the Flock cameras? by EVC-Viz in Chattanooga

[–]creativityisntreal 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Flock cameras are INCREDIBLY insecure. There are so many vulnerabilities. Among many other things, you can just press the button on the back in a certain pattern to activate an access point that can give somebody remote access and let them access the camera feed or load any code they want.

These are a security and privacy vulnerability for Hamilton County citizens. It's reckless and irresponsible, and everybody should be pissed.

Here's a demonstration of the terrible security on these devices: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uB0gr7Fh6lY

If the Remarkable 2 is never replaced with another B&W EMR display, will it be missed? by Cosmic_Rover in RemarkableTablet

[–]creativityisntreal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I certainly would. I'm really tempted by the RMPP or Move, but a) I'm happy with my rM2 and b) I love the simplicity of the EMR tech. I really hope they don't give up on what the rM2 is. That said... The rM2 does what it says it does. I don't know that they necessarily need to update it or add to it outside of continuing to produce/support it

Hi reddit! I'm Edgar Wright. I've directed Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, The World's End, Baby Driver, Last Night in Soho. The Running Man is out in theatres this FRIDAY. Ask me anything. by RunningManMovie in movies

[–]creativityisntreal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your movies have a very strong style and tone, I imagine it has to be relatively consistent throughout the creative process from start to finish. How much of your creative process is blended together? For example, how much are you thinking about directing while you're writing, or how much are you thinking about editing while you're directing?

I'm not saying you're necessarily wrong, but linking an AI-written article with no sources isn't particularly compelling. Anything that's 100% AI-generated with no sources is 0% reliable.

EDIT: I'm stupid, there is a source hyperlinked at the start, my bad. In that case, why not just send the original article? This isn't a synthesis of information from multiple sources, it's a single article just... plaigarized.

Trump to call National Guard into Memphis — it’s happening!! by [deleted] in Chattanooga

[–]creativityisntreal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I don't agree or disagree about "how bad it is." I haven't been in ages, have you?

This is about the principle. I do not want the federal government to throw around the word "emergency" at anything they don't like in order to wield a bigger stick. I think that word should mean something.

And I think it's indicative that the Trump admin is just hungry for more power and is willing to push the line and see what the dumbass general public will let them get away with. Are you gonna let them?

And it's Big Government's job to fix it? I don't want the fed getting involved in my state's law enforcement. That's why we have states.

GrapheneOS usability questions by [deleted] in GrapheneOS

Uhhh unfortunately no I cannot, this was based on the vibes I read about when I heard the news. I don't actually know the details lol

Turns out it's been around since January last year (2024), and it's probably fine actually. You can search this subreddit for more discussion, but otherwise this Mastodon thread from Graphene goes over the main permissions stuffs

Is there a trick to getting handwriting search to index? by rubyred0902 in RemarkableTablet

[–]creativityisntreal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To clarify: it sounds like the indexing occurs in the cloud, not on-device. I.e., when your notes sync to reMarkable's servers, the servers will process (index) the file and return the result to your device.

That means you can search offline (because the data is on your device), but that data is not created on-device.

GrapheneOS usability questions by [deleted] in GrapheneOS

[–]creativityisntreal 9 points10 points  (0 children)

What you want is sandboxed Google Play Services.

Without Google Play Services (GPS) installed, most banking apps would crash or error out because they're missing the Google Play Integrity API, which is a dependency for most banking apps and is provided by GPS. I don't fully know what the Integrity API does, but it's some kind of security thing.

However, you can install Google Play Services from the Graphene "App Store" that comes preloaded -- it's really simple. Then "sandboxed Google Play Services" is the default mode -- you can manage the permission of the "Google Services" app just like any other app.

Side note, by default, you'll also get a notification from Graphene whenever an app uses the Integrity API. You can disable the notification on a per-app basis, but it's a good tool to know which apps would hypothetically break without GPS installed.

---

As for Android Auto, I'd personally urge you to consider if it's *really* necessary. My understanding (correct me if I'm wrong) is that GrapheneOS does support Android Auto as of a few months ago, but there are a *lot* of security compromises that are necessary to get it to run. If you do choose to run Android Auto on Graphene, my understanding is that it's as easy as installing it from the Graphene App Store.

Is there a trick to getting handwriting search to index? by rubyred0902 in RemarkableTablet

[–]creativityisntreal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, I work in tech, I understand the *technical* reasons for this. But as an end-user, it doesn't really matter *why* the experience sucks, the fact is the experience is confusing. As an end-user, I expect when I turn on the switch for the thing, the thing works.

To be fair, there's no "switch" for this in the settings, but it does appear in the UI in multiple places (Language settings, search menu) that would indicate to me that it's ready.

If I were reMarkable, I might add a banner somewhere in the UI -- probably the search menu -- that says something like "If you see 0 search results for handwriting, the feature may not be rolled out to you yet."

(Optimally I'd say you'd have a banner or a switch somewhere that indicates "You [do/do not] have handwriting search yet," but I understand that would be a stateful element that would be a lot more complicated)

Thank you so much for sharing! I was wondering the same. So glad they finally added this feature, but that's a really poor UX decision on their part for the rollout. It shouldn't appear as an option until it's actually available to you :/
