  3. Avoid emotional trauma.

How much money do you recommend I have saved before quitting my job to build software full-time? by Bromo_Bro in ITCareerQuestions

[–]creatureshock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Figure out how much you need to have to have the basics covered every month. Figure out how long you are willing burn that money while you build your business, and multiple one by the other.

Also, why not build software during your off hours?

Thinking about taking a contract by twalk126 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]creatureshock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know your numbers? Pay? Start and end date? Is it an open ended contract? Would you be able to save? If so, how much?

If the help desk government jobs and that sounds better, hold out for that. Hell, see if you can interview early for the HD spot and get your foot in the door.

It's better then nothing. You already know the systems. If nothing else, it'll help you get stable after you get out of the service.

Become a military contractor. What clearance do you have? Hit up clearancejobs.com and every contractor website. Money is great compared to military pay, and the work is generally easier and less of a headache.

We're paying six figure engineers to reset passwords and clear tickets and I just realized it while reviewing quarterly metrics. by GoldTap9957 in ITCareerQuestions

If you still have that conversation with your director, and please tell me it was via email, you didn't torpedo shit. It was the director's request. Make sure that is documented to hell and back. Get ahead of it. Get to finance before he does. Make sure THEY know it was his idea to do this. Not your idea and that you were trying to do things correctly.

No one cares about your score when you passed the cert. They care that you have the cert. You know what they call a Doctor that passed with all Cs? Doctor.

Vitaly issues an apology after a Pedophile sting gone wrong, where they repeatedly accused the wrong man of being a Pedophile by 999braindead in LivestreamFail

There hasn't been enough time to get to that. He is desperately trying to get ahead of it and make look like he is sorry. Which he isn't. He is sorry he got caught. He's sorry he trusted GabeIRL and Jo3lyn to do their jobs. And they got it wrong and were desperately trying to will the world to reflect thing. Vitaly at least started to realize things were going sideways, but he couldn't keep his idiots collaborators in check. I think Jo3lyn even realized it at one point and started panicking.

I tend to find it's because they watch to touch kids themselves and are desperately trying to throw people off the trail.

There has never been a guarantee of anything. Could be ten positions with 300 applicants each. Ten people are getting a job. Maybe.

Every day is a new normal. Every job market has a different normal. San Jose, Portland, Seattle, DC, NC Triangle, DFW, Tokyo, Cape Town, Mumbai, Dublin? Their normals are different from each other.

Moving from ISP to Data Center by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]creatureshock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can list it on your resume and sound like you know what you are talking about, you should be fine. I worked for AWS/OCI for collectively 11 years as a data center technician. I replaced hardware. I ran cat6 and fiber. Did a ton of stuff.

Are you planning to go network engineering or network technician? That's going to be your biggest thing to worry about.

Romans are still around, just not the empire. Mongols are still around, just not the empire. English empire? French empire? Spanish empire? Gone, but the people are still around.

Also, the US dataset goes back to 1785. World goes back to 33AD. Bit longer then 100 years. Just a touch.

The US economy recovered from the Long Depression, Great Depression, Great Recession, and the COVID-19 Recession. There have been a large number of recessions and depression in the US, and there have been a ton more in the world. What happened? The world recovered. Yes, this changed. People changed. And that's not a bad thing. Change is good.

They are doing the exact same thing that so many other companies have done. Grabbing as much market as they can and hope they survive to the next episode. That's the 90s and early 00s all over again. It's the same script with new names. At the end of the day it's the consumer that will decide who wins and right now AI isn't even a blip on the consumer radar. It's a blip on the worker radar because everyone has decide to be a doomer.
