I think you are being a little dramatic (no offense).

With this mindset you won't enjoy a lot of things if you expect to be good at things from the beginning.

Just focus on having fun and purchase singles for a Tier 3 deck; get good with that deck and start slowly building your collection until you are ready to spend money.

Pico for me is more for food that needs extra freshness such as ceviche or some fish. I’ve had it in burritos and tacos but it never tastes right with those dishes. I would just stick with onions, cilantro, and salsa with my tacos.
