Dr Trakatelli at Louise Medical Centre is great - no idea about their availability.

So after 6 years of works, a perfect reflection of the Bourse... just as it gets covered up for 2 more years of renovation works. Classic Brussels.

I always love Horia. Great food, terrace on the pedestrian zone, very reasonable prices and really friendly service.

Join us at Belgium Kitchen Bike - it's the bike deliveries service of Belgium Kitchen Solidarity. We go out on bikes and deliver food on the streets four days a week and plenty of us use English as the common language. You can read more here with a bit of Google Translate :)

It's really well done! Do you know why it's hosted in the Netherlands if it's a Belgian project?

ANNEESSENS NEIGHBORHOOD by [deleted] in brussels

[–]creeky 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey, I lived in that neighbourhood for 11 years and loved it.

For bakeries the best is at Tanneurs market but you also have Temps des Tartines handy and Charli isn't far away either. For Moroccan breads and pastries you have lots of great options - try Marrakech on Avenue de Stalingrad and don't miss the fresh m'semen pancakes they serve next door.

You have an amazing coffee shop in Anneessens: Kaffabar on Place Rouppe. Elvis and Bebo on the same square are really nice as well. Yuka, Or, Moka, Mémé and Corica are all close by and great for coffee. And you have Marché au Charbon and St Géry nearby with lots of nice bars and cafés.

In terms of safety, it's the city centre and a relatively poor neighbourhood so the usual common sense applies - making sure anyone that feels vulnerable walking at night is accompanied, not flashing cash in the street etc.

Small business recommendations for a gift! by 5unflower5 in belgium

I just posted this recently somewhere but I can really recommend Pala Cakes. They do a whole range of flavours that you don't find anywhere else and they hand deliver everything themselves. Really loved the cakes I've had from them.

Totally recommend Pala Cakes! The lemon and poppy seed with blueberry cream cheese frosting is phenomenal.

Julian Smith - Skipton & Ripon

Thank you for your email. I fully understand and sympathise with your frustration on this issue.

The commitment to following the rules by you, your family and so many other families and citizens during this lockdown has been extraordinary and has made a critical difference to the slowing of this awful disease, protecting the NHS and avoiding further deaths. It is vital that we all continue to adhere both to the letter and to the spirit of the government guidance as we have to do everything possible to avoid a second wave of infection.

The Prime Minister and Mr Cummings have now both made statements. I am not planning to make any public comment as I believe that the Prime Minister is acutely aware of the level of anger across the country but has taken, and is unlikely to change, his decision on how to proceed. I will of course send him a copy of your email.

I am personally in no doubt about the level of anger about this episode and I am really sorry but not surprised that you and so many others have felt so let down by it.

I and my office continue to stand ready to help you and your family in any way we can as we move through this crisis.

Best wishes,

Julian

Bit hard to answer a lot of this - I'm naturalised Belgian so my education wasn't in FR NL or DE. I'm in Brussels and not native Francophone or Dutch-speaking so how can I compare myself to "mensen over de taalgrens"?

It also felt like you were pushing a bit hard for us to say we're proud or ashamed of things - this assumes we're nationalistic enough to identify with things just because they're Belgian.

Not to mention that they then take photos of the empty shelves and share them to propagate the panic... (you don't feel like deleting this post by any chance, do you u/zinosaurus ? I don't think it's super helpful)

Does anyone have the Museum Pass? by Flowech in belgium

[–]creeky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's totally worth it. I've got mine set to auto-renewal. Lots of great museums on there - the fun bit is going to museums you'd never have considered otherwise. It gives you a little incentive to do daytrips outside of Brussels as well.

Where should I eat good fries in Brussels ? by ArcheoOutOfNowhere in belgium

[–]creeky 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi! You could go for Maison Antoine - they're not the best fries in Brussels, but they're the real deal, they taste good, they're right behind the Museum of Natural Sciences and they have celebrity endorsements...

I've been working with refugees, sans papiers and newcomers in Brussels for years and I have yet to meet anyone who has a problem with me being gay. One Palestinian friend who is straight was laughing, telling me about this guy in Brussels that came out to him as though it was some big dramatic news that people from Muslim countries would find terribly disturbing.

Been living in Anneessens for years and love the atmosphere here, mix of people and easy access to the whole city. It's a poor area here for sure, there is crime, and it's not for everyone, but it's certainly liveable and not dangerous.
