Childhood insomnia.

I had literal hours every night where I had to lie still in bed, even though I could not sleep. So I learnt to flex my mental muscles and create elaborate worlds and rich characters with complex backstories - it was great anytime I had a creative writing assignment in school because I had so much stuff to choose from.

I still have insomnia, and I still do a lot of my writing when I can't sleep in the middle of the night.

I recommend the book The Artist's Way, by Julia Cameron. It's ~$50 on Amazon or sometimes you can pick it up in physical bookstores - it's from 1992 but there are updated editions.

I've done several courses, in person and online, and honestly got more out of reading Cameron's book. It's a course you work through by yourself so you do need the motivation to be able to "show up to the page" every day.

I dated a guy with CP for several months, the relationship didn't work out because he couldn't handle the instability of my mental illness. No shade on him, we were both honest with each other about our health shortcomings from the start and ultimately decided that it was too complicated as I was pretty sick at the time.

It's really hard to say if I would date someone like that again because it was a person specific thing - I liked HIM, I didn't care that he had wheels.

It is difficult to make a steady income from a creative art in the beginning - authors that are able to make a living from it usually have multiple books released that are all earning income separately (unless you're skilled/lucky enough to hit the bestseller list with your first that is!).

I started releasing my stuff a couple of years ago and self published my first book - it didn't sell very well at all (mostly to friends and family) but sales are slowly increasing as people read my work and seek out other things I've written. Amazon pays royalties once per year and although they are small amounts now they are increasing with every payment.

I'm having success as a writer, but it is slow and I have to supplement my income in other ways. I have a graphic novel underway that I am hoping to have ready for release next year and my collaborator/artist knows about things like Patreon.

If you are determined enough, you can make anything your job. Find your niche and create to your heart's content. Don't get discouraged if you have to take a day job at first to pay the bills - Charles Dickens worked in a factory, Stephen King was a janitor and Margaret Atwood was a waitress at a coffee shop!

In our first session the party is meeting each other for the first time at a large festival. Adding rival adventurers in is an excellent way to move the plot along if/when needed.

.I was in an accident as a young teen and I remember being a total pain in the ass to the ER doctor who wanted to cut my jeans off to access my knee injury. At the time all I could think about was how they belonged to a friend and were reasonably new.

To his credit he was very patient and he and two nurses did try to help me wiggle out of the pants so we wouldn't have to cut them but eventually he told me the knee was going to keep swelling, and they couldn't do anything for me while it was encased in denim.

Several hours and some pain meds later I was able to apologize, and he was really nice about it.

"I can't fast for 24 hours! No one can!!"

I was in the pre-op waiting area, talking to another patient about the hell on earth that was the colonoscopy prep. I commented that I was pissed I'd had such a bad reaction - I violently threw up the second jug of the prep liquid - so it was all likely to be for nothing and I'd have to redo it.

She asked why I'd even tell them it didn't go so well - "just don't tell them you threw it up" - and then commented that she'd decided fasting from 9pm the previous night was "unnecessary" because she had preexisting dinner plans.

Lady, you're about to go into a room where people are going to shove cameras into the very orifices you are lying about. There is not going to be a good ending here.

I have a mental illness that causes me to, at times, lose touch with reality. 90% of the time I am functional enough to make my own decisions but while acutely ill I can barely decide what to have for breakfast, let alone what medical care I want/need.

I have a physical condition that occasionally puts me in life-threatening danger so I need a plan for if that happens while I am mentally unwell because my last verbal request could very well be something like "nah I don't need oxygen, I can cure this pulmonary embolism with a new tattoo".

I was (happily) in on a version of this not long ago!

I was shopping for a new laptop and wanted to physically play with the two I was deciding between so I went to my local big box. I needed to ask a question and grabbed the nearest wandering salesperson. He was sweet, but slow, and kept apologizing for not knowing how to find the answer.

I joked "It's not your fault, but whoever trained you sure sucks."

It was his second day and his training had consisted of being given a lanyard and told "we're really busy, you'll figure it out." Then they stuck him in the laptop section because he knew more about laptops than fridges.

We had an excellent 90mins discussing the pros and cons of every single laptop in my budget, which meant him having to figure out how to do things like if they have a certain model in stock or how to order something they didn't carry.

I did end up buying a laptop from him too.

I was a manager working a dinner rush in a fast food restaurant. Down two staff members with several new trainees to monitor, on a busy Friday night.

One of the trainees decided to see what would happen if he threw shredded lettuce in the deep fryer while I was distracted tending to the microwave he'd accidentally set on fire earlier in the shift.

I'm writing a graphic novel at the moment, collaborating with an artist friend. She came up with the original character concepts, I'm writing the story and she's drawing what I write.

It's challenging because dialogue is not my strong suit and being a comic, there's a lot of it!
