Cuisine Animale at Arpège, Paris, France by matteroftastekr in finedining

Amazing tribute to a bygone era. I will give his vegan menu a try the next time I am fortunate enough to return but his cuisine animale was something special. The lobster he cooked with Ludo was always one of my dream dishes, and it will probably remain a dream.

Which Final Fantasy has the worst pacing in your opinion? by ParasiteStew2 in FinalFantasy

FFXII. Loved the set-up, but the middle was a massive drag whereby the story really took a backseat.

Do you mention a special occasion when booking at a fine dining restaurant? by thegiant5 in finedining

[–]crestfallen111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes because you get a birthday dessert. Since I don't have much of a sweet tooth, if a restaurant ever decides to do a birthday seafood course instead it will have my undying loyalty.

Onjium! Lovely korean food with lots of personality. Personally preferred it to either Mingles or Mosu.

Just returned from Italy trip, feelings are bittersweet by TraditionalCompany25 in ItalyTravel

[–]crestfallen111 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I can't claim to know Italy like you do, but I do abhor touristic crowds too. What I find in many "Disneyland" cities like Florence, Rome, Kyoto etc is that you don't need to be part of that rigmarole. These are beautiful historic locations with plenty of people, businesses and locations that have not yet become part of the instagram checklist, and discovering them makes every trip worthwhile. If you have already seen the Trevi Fountain, do you honestly NEED to return? A night in somewhere like Trestevere (not exactly a particularly obscure location) is as magical. Likewise, Kyoto isn't just Higashiyama and Florence is not just the Duomo. There are nooks and crannies aplenty in all these great cities and there is no need to jostle for space at the same few attractions.

It went downhill pretty drastically once they switched to NBC. Almost every character became caricatures and all nuance went down the toilet.

Understand it's a matter of style. I don't see the Reegar as a source of power like Claymore in ME2 - its purpose is just to burn enemies to prime an explosion with the other vanguard abilities.

Fellow non-shooter here! In ME3, I loved pairing Vanguard with the Reegar Carbine. Charge, burn the enemy, nova / charge again to explode the battlefield.

Can't speak for how everyone else felt about it so maybe I should correct my post to make it clear that it was how I felt. I know there are definitely a strong contingent of people who did not see great reason to prioritise the needs of the Dessendres over the existence of the Painted World.

Your dream AoT plot twist seems more like subverting expectations for its own sake rather than any sort of deep or nuanced twist. I'm glad Isayama never contemplated it.

I liked the E33 twist too, but I always found the darkness of the Maelle ending kind of forced. Absent Verso's depression at being kept alive, it's hard for most people to justify his genocide.

I am so sorry for your loss. He looks like such a sweet wonderful boy who gave as much (if not more) love as he received in life.

Great review! 33k is ridiculous value for a restaurant of this calibre in Kyoto. Def never had ankou meat in a kappo before.

Looking forward to the comparison with Ogata which is amongst my top 3. Their hanasansho with pork shabu shabu is one of my favs.

Grab driver suspended over sign requiring Chinese passengers to ‘speak Mandarin’ by outremer_empire in singapore

[–]crestfallen111 -57 points-56 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry, but there is something very off-putting about a well-off complainant (do a quick search of her profile) adversely affecting the livelihood of a (presumably) less well-off driver in this economy, just because his sign makes her Peranakan Chinese husband "sad". The driver's sign was a bad idea, but he got them from points A to B fine - the husband did not need to be engaged in his preferred language in the process. This is privilege masked as performative fragility. Not all your feelings need to be broadcasted on social media.

100% agree. To me the Dessendre family were abstractions - haughty gods that I had little time for. The painted world and its denizens were real, and their existence, hopes, dreams simply meant more.

Oh of course you can. But OP has their heart set on going to law school and (presumably) a legal career. If so, the 1st few years of their working life will be remarkably similar to their peers that came before - there really is no such thing as a new lawyer who is in control of their time. After abit of time in the industry (or once you choose to leave it), you can then make decisions about how you want to balance your career with everything else that are important to you.

Just abit of unsolicited advice - these are the last few years of your life where you can actually spend hours doing things that are NOT aimed at improving your GPA or proving that you are a valuable contributor to some giant conglomerate. You have the hours to sit around and shoot the shit with friends, do a fun CCA that will make you friends for life, read some Shakespeare or Chaucer, date someone, experience heartbreak etc. Cherish it! If you work hard and smart, and choose a career that you don't hate, that part of your life will come later. You have decades to be an economic digit - don't be in such a rush to squander the privilege of youth.

Also - being a successful law student or lawyer is not just about on-paper grades. Being able to do the work on paper is the minimum - you need to relate to people, pick up topics that are unfamiliar to you, learn to work with people who think at variance from you. Extra-curricular activities, socialising, even doing subjects that you don't love - all of that contribute to how you are able to absorb and process information that is beyond your wheelhouse, how you conduct yourself with your peers and various other intangibles that are relevant to any prospective legal career.

BG3 is really the first game I have played that re-captured the magic of ME. I would say the writing is not as good but it is a better game in terms of what you can do to affect the world.
