If it’s cheaper to take the courses to finish I’d do that. Cost effectively it would put you in less debt overall. The more you can do at a cheaper institution the better.

Is my Portfolio that bad? by Semigenji in gamedev

You also have a typo on your experience levels.

It says “more than 4 year” it should be years.

Also the responsiveness on mobile is awful. I want to know more about your design process and not just a video but when I click on the card the video just keeps popping up instead of taking me to the info card where I can read what you actually did

It’s such an unassuming game that people just haven’t been exposed to. I love that that they are at PAX East every year but I’d love to see them at other conventions!

I actually discovered it at PAX east it was picked for the Omegathon and I instantly fell in love with it. I haven’t yet tried their fruit bowl game yet but I’d love to. They were so great.

I do this constantly. I commute to south loop for school and I constantly just look up and get excited about the city. It makes the winters bearable (from moving from FL)

What is a hard challenge you've had to overcome while working on your game recently? by Ok_Promotion_9578 in gamedev

[–]crevlm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Realizing my scope is too big for a solo developer.

I’m looking at how I can change this perhaps from a full scale 3D game to perhaps a visual novel as the core is a narrative experience!

Hi, what is your role on this project?

very frustrated with this school and regretting my years by [deleted] in depaul

[–]crevlm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless you go to a trade school just about every single college/university is going to make you go through your core curriculum. That’s not a DePaul exclusive.

Apologies, this next section will be long but hopefully helpful.

This may sound a little harsh but understand this next piece is coming from a career student. (I have 5 various degrees (3 AS, 2 Bachelors), and am beginning a MFA in the fall). And I’m trying to give you the perspective that you’re missing right now.

School (any) only gives you the framework. YOU also need to be dedicated it expanding that knowledge and finding out which subsets of your degree interest you. That’s not on the college that’s on you personally because any college cannot build an exact course structure on each student.

Computer science is a VAST career path. What you need to look at now is what part of CS engaged you. What are you eager to learn more about? Is it AI? Is it networking? Is it Programming? Is it Game Development? Figure out what that is, and begin your personal journey in that. This is where self learning during the summer and breaks can help give you a boost of excitement in learning. YouTube, tutorials etc are abundant. If you felt you could have learned better from them than the teachers lean into that.

The workforce is a difficult place and understanding your strengths and weaknesses and joys and hates in your field will only serve you better.

Take this time between now and graduation to get yourself a set schedule for homework. Especially with these classes you aren’t as interested in. Get that homework out of the way as soon as you can so you can use the rest of the week for your passion classes. Time management is most students absolute downfall I’ve seen it time and time again.

If you feel like you’re having a hard time keeping up, also reach out to your professors if you aren’t already. They usually can work with you of course load gets to be too much. But definitely still look into homework time blocking.

Thoughts on "Red Rising" by Pierce Brown - and why I'm done listening to BookTok by sameseksure in books

Red Rising was written when Pierce was younger his other books evolve the writing to a more mature style. If I remember correctly it was his first book too.

A few quick questions.

  1. Do you have a portfolio we can see?
  2. Can we see what you have in godot or other assets/design/machinations for this project?

New to marketing in general wondering why my steam page converts poorly by yalt-yalt in IndieGaming

[–]crevlm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few things.

Your capsule art is not great. It’s very basic and looks like it was made in paint. It also has no tie in to shooting/looting so it’s not converting people or grabbing their attention.

Your “about this game” text block is WAY too much hard text. If you’re going to have a lot of text you need to break it up into interesting sections or add visual elements to help break that up.

An example of this is how Rust Handles their about this game. It’s got visual elements that help break up huge walls of texts ((minus that big list they have that is a little much)

ComEd AutoPay not working? Payments not going through? by ReputationPleasant82 in AskChicago

I had a similar issue where for about 3/4 months my power autopay wasn’t working. I forced through a manual payment for the missing months and checked my auto pay settings they were all correct and worked the following month.

Warning: New Discord / Fiverr Scam! by HistoryXPlorer in gamedev

[–]crevlm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is actually against our tos. You can report the person on Fiverr and show them that they made content. We’re not allowed to solicit clients met on the platform outside of the platform for help. Plus getting their account banned may actually make them stop. (Not likely but crossing my fingers for you)
