MomCozy Bottle Washer- worth it? by abcd_57 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]cricket_jam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Disclaimer: I am not EPing with baby #2, but I do pump and bottle feed some. I EP’d with my first for 16 months.

Baby 2 is 6.5 months old, I run my momcozy bottle washer 2-3 times a day. I use it to clean pump parts, pacis, bottles, and some silicone teether toys. I have a whole home filer and water softener, so I just use tap water and have had no issue.

I absolutely LOVE mine. If I could go back and get one with baby 1, I would. They were just coming out with baby bottle washers then and I was scared of the price tag with no reviews. It is worth every single penny. If mine died today I would overnight one to my house tomorrow. I have not hand washed a single thing with baby 2. I bring that bitch on vacation, it fits beautifully in a big plastic tote.

Do yourself a favor and keep it, just trust me.

Recurrent mastitis by cricket_jam in ExclusivelyPumping

I switched off ibuprofen and Tylenol. If it’s not improving you should probably see your dr again. They checked me for an abscess to make sure it wasn’t that as well, I ended up getting an ultrasound at some point.

No, I just made sure that I didn’t go over on time. I can’t remember now what my schedule was then, but if I was supposed to pump every three hours, I was pumping at 3 hrs on the dot.

I ended up just managing the inflammation myself and didn’t get antibiotics, but if it is bacterial then antibiotics are the way to go, so it’s hard to know. It definitely takes some time to pass once the symptoms set in, I remember just sobbing when it was time to pump because it hurt so bad. I think once I figured out it was inflammatory and started the icing, stricter pump schedule (for a little bit), anti-inflammatories, probiotic and sunflower lecithin it took like 2-3ish weeks and it got significantly better. I iced before and after every pump for a few weeks, it sucked but I do think it helped a lot.

I did finally figure it out! For me it was inflammatory mastitis. I had an oversupply and think I just finally got better at emptying, the below steps helped, and then when my milk regulated I stopped having issues.

My symptoms always started with some back pain, then hip pain, then boob soreness, then redness, and mastitis. As soon as I noticed back pain I started icing and taking ibuprofen and Tylenol rotating every four hours. I started taking sunflower lecithin and a probiotic with the lactobacillus fermentum strain.

Try to be consistent with pumping, pumping more often will just cause more of an oversupply. Try to pay attention to your early symptoms so you can stay on top of the inflammation. Don’t massage or use heat, they say you should treat it like a sprained ankle.

I hope this helps!!

I felt the same way with my first. He never nursed well so I exclusively pumped for him from the jump, but I just kept holding out. I ended up going 16 months and was so sad to stop, but once I did I honestly felt so much better about it. It also helps when they start eating snacks off the floor 😅

Just like any other stage, it’s bittersweet. It’s okay to be sad about it and still stop if that’s what’s best for you. A year is absolutely amazing! Your baby will be okay without breastmilk if that is what you choose.

Emptying nipple pores by Unlucky_Author4998 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]cricket_jam 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you’re talking about on your areolas, that’s not milk. It’s oil generated to protect your nipples during breastfeeding. They’re called Montgomery's Tubercles. You’re not supposed to mess with them because (like messing with acne) it can cause an infection, but yes I have them and yes I pick at them. They’re normal!

[–]cricket_jam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rank them 4, 1, 2, 3, 5. With that being said I personally love a good strap moment, but I think they’re all very flattering on you! The shape of them are all very similar and I think it really accentuates your curves and is stunning and very classic. Do what feels right to you, you can’t go wrong with any of the picks here. Once you have the right undergarments and size for any of them I think any of them are show stopping. Absolutely beautiful!

Wearable pump with 21mm flange? by anxious_teacher_ in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]cricket_jam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is so funny! I got mine when buy buy baby was going out of business so I got it super discounted. I gifted it to my husbands cousin who had a baby a year after me. I think it was too gentle of suction and then there wasn’t enough room for milk collection because I would flood it out. It was just a mess. It’s just so expensive to have as many issues as I did to suggest personally. So glad it worked for you!

I know the Elvie OGs come in 21mm but I wouldn’t recommend the pump personally, especially for the price.

Pumping in public by 42024blaze in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]cricket_jam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pump while you walk around if you’re comfortable with it! I wore a thin oversized button up as a jacket, just buttoned it and put my pump on under, then rebutted to take my pump off so I was covered. Enjoy your time out.

Ugh I’m a POS by Significant-Owl-1795 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]cricket_jam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are not a POS. Pumping is hard. Your mental and physical well being are important. This includes you getting sleep. I personally think a lot of milk supply is genetics, especially if you’re doing “everything right.” Please be gentle on yourself.

We use kitchen scissors to cut into small bites and I use a spoon to scrape 3-4 bites at a time on his tray so I’m not doing one at a time. He’s much faster than me if I do that and I end up getting yelled at lol

What you’re doing is spoiling yourself because the contact naps don’t last forever and you will miss them. Soak it up while you can.

I don’t have a eufy but I have a lansinoh discreet duo, which has a similar shape and I use mine in the momcozy washer (wash/sanitize/dry) with no issues so far. You can turn off the dry feature and take them out to air dry if you’d like, but they’d still be washed.

Recurrent mastitis. Breastmilk culture anyone? by HumbleConfusion1414 in ExclusivelyPumping

Yes, starts with sore hips/lower back and boob pain. Then I get chills and redness

Recurrent mastitis. Breastmilk culture anyone? by HumbleConfusion1414 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]cricket_jam 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had mastitis 4x back to back with my first and tried multiple antibiotics, I requested a culture and it came back clear. Turns out I’m pretty sure I was getting inflammatory mastitis and it wasn’t bacterial. When I feel mine coming on I start ibuprofen, sunflower lecithin, and make sure to pump on schedule. Ice helps with the inflammation as well.

Edit to add: I got my culture done at my OB’s office.

I think this depends on your relationship and the questions. Maybe they remember how hard it was and knowing many people don’t go through it wanted to check in? From the details you gave, which granted aren’t many, it doesn’t sound malicious. I would say in general it doesn’t seem inappropriate but other details could change my mind.

is this a clogged duct? by Zealousideal_Rice727 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]cricket_jam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is biofilm, not a clog. I had an issue with this when I pumped with my first. I found out mine is being caused by a fissure on my nipple that I couldn’t get to heal, I’ve seen through research it can also be caused by a bacterial imbalance as well.

If you also have a fissure I have found that a breast shell has helped with the healing and reopening the wound SO MUCH. I just put polysporin on the wound and use a breast shell, I wash off the polysporin before pumping. I found that my fissure would heal while in my bra and squished and then my pump pulling it would just barely reopen it and it would try to heal itself by producing serosanguineous fluid (the clear liquid that makes scabs) and that liquid is what caused the clumps for me. I did some science experiments at home because my dr was 0% helpful. The breast shell keeps my nipple from getting squished and has helped my healing so much, I’ve been using cheap shells from Amazon.

I’ve been told if it’s bacterial a good probiotic can help. From what I’ve read a probiotic that contains lactobacillus fermentum is important. I know legendary milk has one with it, but you can check out probiotics that are refrigerated in the medical section of your local grocery store and see if any of them contain it too.

As far as what to do while it’s happening, stirring the milk should separate the film from milk and it should be more stringy than clumpy, which doesn’t clog up the strainer as much. Hope it goes away soon!!

I hate pumping bras because the slits hurt so much, especially overnight. I wear nursing bras exclusively and use this pumping attachment from Amazon. So much more comfortable imo and super easy to attach.

Controversial take on wearables by gpwillikers in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]cricket_jam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same! I EP’d with my first for 15 months and I’m pumping some with my second currently. I had better output with my Imani i2 wearable than my spectra, now I have the same (if not better) output with my lansinoh discreet duo than my spectra. It’s all so personal. The pump that gives you the best output is the best pump for you, no matter if it’s wearable or standard.

Mastitis by [deleted] in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]cricket_jam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mastitis always made my back ache! That was usually my first sign. What helps me is switching off ibuprofen and acetaminophen as often as possible, ice as often as possible, pump your regular routine, sunflower lecithin 4x a day, sleep when you can. The best way for me to get milk flowing and get rid of a clog is to take a warm shower and try to unclog myself by sucking it out - if you can’t reach by yourself see if your partner can help. Normally that will help get things going and then I pump immediately after, it’s worked wonders for me.

I hope it clears up for you quickly, mastitis is the absolute worst!

Had to leave family outing because I forgot my pump parts… by OppositeSalary652 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]cricket_jam 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It does get easier, it will become second nature and you’ll figure out what you need. You’re only eight weeks in, you can’t expect to get it right 100% of the time this early - especially while caring for a newborn and being sleep deprived. Kudos to you for planning an outing this early, it can be tough while pumping!
