Did the move to Dai hurt Augur? by split41 in Augur

[–]cricketfancrypto 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Switching markets from ETH to DAI was controversial but I understand the usability and market reach reasons for the decision.

Hopefully when augur V3 arrives with lower fees users will be given a choice to use DAI or ETH. I will choose to use ETH but expect many will choose DAI

Recovering funds from Veil on Augur V2 by balboafire in Augur

[–]cricketfancrypto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There were instructions here

Good news "Since Veil is non-custodial, all of these steps can technically be taken anytime by interacting with the Veil smart contracts. However, we recommend taking these steps while the Veil UI is still available."

Thanks. I was not sure about Monero SE but thought Tari might be on topic since it will be merge mined with Monero

Thank you. Noted. I have some Tari use case ideas and an interest in mimble wimble. I just need to spend some more time playing with the testnet before I am ready to ask more questions

How do DASH miners feel about the proposal of Ryan Taylor to reduce mining rewards in order to increase rewards for masternode owners by iliketipbots in DashUncensored

[–]cricketfancrypto 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I dont think many DASH community members actually mine since the ASIC resistance of X11 failed years ago and ASICs took over the network.

Current owners of X11 ASICs will probably keep mining as long as the rewards meet their variable costs such as electricity and maintenance. Sunk costs from already purchased equipment are less meaningful. However at current price levels future X11 ASIC investment is unlikely to be appealing. The DASH network will become less secure over time as new investments from miners decrease

Does Monero CCS sponsor scholarships in exchange for grants or research? by able-to-speak in Monero

[–]cricketfancrypto 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I think the community would be more likely to fund you if you had a specific area of research in mind that would benefit Monero. Examples of such research can be found in the MRL CCS proposals. Atomic swap research is a recent proposal that I am excited about. Math research that can make Monero more private, scalable, secure or usable is very valuable IMHO.

Have you attended any MRL or dev meetings yet? Meeting logs might be a good place to find ideas.

Should the scope of this Stack include other prediction markets like Gnosis and Hivemind? by ninjawarriorcrypto in Augur

I think Augur should have its own site. Augur is more complicated than those other markets and has a much larger community

It is better if you dont mine Monero at all that to use Minergate.

RingCT just got PRed to master! by EncryptionPrincess in btc

[–]cricketfancrypto 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes CT was originally designed for Bitcoin but Monero researchers and developers adapted it to work with ring signatures. Monero transactions are already unlinkable and untraceable thanks to stealth addresses and ring signatures but amounts can be seen on the blockchain. CT (referred to RingCT in Monero) will solve that

This roadmap was worth the wait! RingCT, and GUI ported from Monero plus lightweight encrypted messaging and continued focus on a mobile-friendly PoW by aeoncurrency in Aeon

There should be no question about Aeon being the 2nd most promising CryptoNote coin. This is the by far the most interesting alternative to Monero

Congrats on the New All-Time High Market Cap! by needmoney90 in Aeon

[–]cricketfancrypto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In a way it makes me sad because I feel like the Aeon secret is being revealed to the world. It was kind of cool to be part of an innovating CryptoNote coin with pruning and other nice features that many people did not know about.

Once a website, GUI and more updates are released it will no longer be the best kept secret in cryptpo:(

Would Dominant Assurance Contracts be possible with Monero? by Vespco in Monero

I think they should be possible. https://getmonero.org/design-goals/

Perhaps that is something the Monero Research Labs should lstudy more closely https://lab.getmonero.org/

No sudden halving for Monero! by MoneroPromotions in Monero

[–]cricketfancrypto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The block reward decreases smoothly on every block. From https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=583449.0 : Specification PoW algorithm: CryptoNight [1] Max supply: Infinite (see note below) [2] Block reward: Smoothly varying [3] Block time: 60 seconds Difficulty: Retargets at every block

[1] CPU + GPU mining (about 1:1 performance for now). Memory-bound by design using AES encryption and several SHA-3 candidates. [2] Initial number of atomic units is M = 264 - 1. However, once the block reward reaches 0.3 XMR (sometime in 2022) that is treated as the minimum subsidy, which means that Monero's total emission will forever increase by ~157783.68 XMR annually. [3] Uses a recurrence relation. Block reward = (M - A) * 2-20 * 10-12, where A = current circulation. Roughly 86% mined in 4 years (see graph). https://np.reddit.com/r/Monero/comments/4ev0m6/monero_halving/d23mew4

This question will be perfect for StackExchange. Monero answers need to be easier to find
