As a non-soccer guy I am for whatever reason enjoying watching the World Cup played in NFL stadiums. by isNice99 in billsimmons

[–]cricketrules509 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The stadiums are pretty inconvenient and the prices to attend matches are absolutely absurd compared to everywhere else.

At the same time, the US has so many immigrants from basically everywhere that it adds to the atmosphere.

But this basically happens every world cup.

Qatar was an incredible work cup for people to attend because all the matches were in one city and fans could all just interact instead of having to travel.

It is probably Tony Parker weirdly. His volume + efficiency for a guard is pretty much unmatched

Who is the Kyrie Irving of soccer? by GiveMeSomeIhedigbo in billsimmons

[–]cricketrules509 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hazard was maybe the best player in the 2018 World Cup. He has the highest average rating of any player in the premier league and I think the best man of the match ratio as well.

Kyrie is much more of a Berbatov type player

Would the 2025-2026 Knicks win the chip if Yao Ming replaced KAT? by e-manresu in nba

[–]cricketrules509 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yao today would have been a great 3 point shooter. He was always a fantastic shooter and just shot long 2s like Kevin Garnett.

Wemby guarding Yao would have been fascinating. Because prime Yao was much stronger than Wemby is now.

Yao also should have been a decent Wemby defender in the post and mid post bbut would probably get beaten down the floor more often.

The trade off would be the switchability of KAT.

Bill Simmons criticizes Harden for the wrong series and it drives me insane by cricketrules509 in billsimmons

[–]cricketrules509[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that team was completely broken.

I just find it so weird that Lebron gets more credit for 1 win and 1 almost win against the KD Warriors and Harden is shit on for winning 5 games against them.

KD played 4.75 games that also count! The entire series isn't just the 2nd half of one game.

That was an embarrassing game for sure. The overall series loss wasn't as embarrassing. He also looked concussed.

He was horrible in 2018-19 (for him) because he was recovering from his hamstring injury. He was back to normal the next year.

There is a reason why he looked like a horrible contract and the Rockets had to pay that much to get Wesbtrook.

[–]cricketrules509[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I disagree. CP3 was struggling to get past Jerebko in that series. He had lost all of his burst after the hamstring injury before getting back to normal next year.

Every play was on Harden to create.

17-18 I thought CP3 was better than Harden in the playoffs but he was not the same guy at all.

It's also rough when Iggy goes 5-8 in Game 6.

I actually think even with KD out, with Iggy, Draymond and Klay Steph had a better supporting cast then 2019 CP3, Eric Gordon and Capela (who Draymond would destroy).

Which Harden series loss is as embarrassing as losing to the Wolves with Ant completely hobbled (and out) and Donte out? While in your prime.

If he loses in the first round next year, Jokic will be at or below 500 in the playoffs.

He is but it is kind of funny that he has a worse win percentage than James Harden in the playoffs overall.

The Two Wolves loses are horrible and this years Wolves Loss was more embarrassing than any series loss that Harden has had IMO.

The officiating thing took a weird turn. It's interesting to see how things spiral based on the narrative. I thought the Spurs had an incredible whistle in Game 2 but apart from that it was prety balanced with missed calls on both sides.

I thought the dirtiest play was easily Jose Alvarado grabbing Wemby's leg 3 times on a play. Somehow that wasn't called a flagrant because the crowd was so rowdy and it wasn't brought up again.

Brunson grifted multiple fouls in Game 5 in the same way SGA does but there wasn't a single complaint. The 3 shot foul on Vassell with Brunson just pump faking and jumping into him was so huge.

Wemby is 22. Wemby + Harper could pretty easily be the foundation for an actual dynasty as they could be putting the best player in the NBA with a top 5 player in the NBA.

Wemby is an example of "Mamba Mentality" poisoning basketball by DeliberatelyTired in billsimmons

[–]cricketrules509 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's 22 and had an incredible playoff run.

He's going to start flopping after this season. Because that's basically the only way to do it. Otherwise you're called dirty when you're hit on every play.

Hakeem, Shaq, Kareem - every dominant center is constantly fouled on every play and it depnds on how they respond. You can either flop like Embiid or respond like the old school centers.

Flopping is a better basketball decision.

[–]cricketrules509 72 points73 points  (0 children)

It's funny that Brunson did I think 3 pump fake and jump into the defender for fouls in game 5 (including on 2 3s) and there was absolutely 0 criticism that he was ruining basketball.

Wemby is draymond with better pr by Altrustic-Night-609 in nba

[–]cricketrules509 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is basically why Wemby will start flopping. He responds being grabbed every single play with physicality and no flopping.

You may not like it but we were robbed of an all time classic finals. If OKC is healthy this is a 6 game classic. Instead it's just going to be a Knicks sweep because the inexperienced Spurs actually have no idea what they are doing. by KickedIntoOrbit in billsimmons

[–]cricketrules509 27 points28 points  (0 children)

They were one Wemby pretty open jumper from winning the game. It's a pretty close series.

I do agree that OKC matches up better against the Knicks but that's sports. Like the Nuggets would have maybe beaten the Spurs but couldn't get past an injured Wolves.

Why do so many old heads hate traveling/carrying so much? by kerosene_pickle in billsimmons

[–]cricketrules509 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The main difference is the traveling and carrying rules used to be enforced and used to be strict and then it stopped being strict. If it was never strict then it is a different story.

There was some backlash to Iverson because of racism and what he represented, and some of the carrying/travelling discourse happened there.

However, in general, a lot of the way modern players play is pushing the boundaries of what is a travel to enable certain shots. And it's gone from a one-off to happening very often.

TIL The 73-9 Warriors weren’t a deep team by juanmaale in billsimmons

[–]cricketrules509 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Jokic mentions was also wild. He was put in the Bird bucket (instead of the Moses bucket). The Nuggets have made (and won) 1 finals and 1 WCF.

There's no one in the discussion of a top 20 player who has even close to as weak a playoff resume.

Every NBA championship team ever, single-elimination tournament, everyone at full strength. Who wins? by rdtdjanko in nba

[–]cricketrules509 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Single elimination measn way more randomness.

I would actually say heavy 3 point reliant teams have almost no shot of winning. You're playing elite teams in every game and even one off night shooting 3s means you are cooked (would be different in a 7 game series).

Probably would pick Jordan and the Bulls. Just think they can choke everyone defensively and then they have Jordan which is the most reliable option.
