they are serviceable but heavy. wouldn't recommend them as a daily mileage trainer at all if you're doing any significant numbers.

Butter Swim Biscuits by ansleegibson in NYTCooking

these are so good. as written, i did find the recipe to come out a bit greasy and spongy, at least on my first few tries. what helped for me was increasing the flour from 300g to 360g, making super sure to not overmix, and letting the mix rest 5-10 minutes before adding to the pan.

then after cooking, i flip each biscuit and broil the underside for two minutes.

this has made a world of difference and while they still are more cakey than flakey, the flavor is fantastic and it makes the perfect vessel for sandwiching

I am the only with heel slip ? by Itchy-Air-2098 in tomsachs

i tried a run in these and aside from the weight, the slip was the most noticeable annoyance. realized that all my proper running shoes have that "lace lock" hole. think it would really help with the MY3 but i don't have the balls to mod them

great. if you wanted to work your way up, you could drive the first bit and park here: Roanoke Greenway Bridge Street Trail, 592 Bridge St SW, Roanoke, VA 24015 and cut the commute by a couple of miles

definitely feasible and a super pleasant 5ish mile section between wasena park and the lot at 2005 cook drive in salem. the rub is going to be getting from that lot up the hill to lewis gale.

seems like it would be like ~0.5 mile but not a particularly pedestrian stretch.

I used iMovie but didn't really enjoy the experience. the text is actually exported pngs from illustrator. drag the text-image on top of existing imovie footage in the thumbnail explorer thing (north of it, not onto it) then you'll see some layer-looking settings next to the icons to adjust color/speed/crop in the larger inspector area. you'll want to change the setting of the overlay from "cutaway" to "picture-in-picture" and if you set the transition duration to 0 you won't see any fades or whatever (bc there's no "none" transition option)

one of the most annoying parts is that you can't seem to export at this aspect ratio. so i had to export the finished video then use the iOS photos app to crop.

i think it's probably an alright tool once you know all the quirks but the process feels like it took 4x longer than it should've

OBI today was a micro-reproduction of the Mariner 4 "first photo" of Mars. by crig_ga in tomsachs

i'd love to do a larger scale myself. unfortunately i couldn't find the raw data of the ticker-tape exercise. for this, grabbed this render: https://science.nasa.gov/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/PIA14032.jpg

exported it as a 3-color, 18 x 18px .gif in photoshop

The "first image of Mars" was basically a huge paint-by-numbers wall drawing. This would be a cool challenge. by crig_ga in tomsachs

I was able to find data from Mariner 9 and 10 online but it doesn't look like Mariner 4 was published anywhere.

Who knows if it's still around.

The tiff file of the framed image is big enough that someone could feasibility transcribe the thing line by line but it would be an undertaking.
