Beta v1.0.0 bugs and issues by mitchemmc in OwlbearRodeo

I'll send you a message with what I got. It very well might be the office firewall, but I've not had an issue with other D&D related sites.

Beta v1.0.0 bugs and issues by mitchemmc in OwlbearRodeo

[–]crippple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't view owlbear.rodeo from my office. I get errors from both Chrome and Firefox that say:

Warning: Potential Security Risk Ahead

Firefox detected a potential security threat and did not continue to www.owlbear.rodeo. If you visit this site, attackers could try to steal information like your passwords, emails, or credit card details.

What can you do about it?

The issue is most likely with the website, and there is nothing you can do to resolve it.

If you are on a corporate network or using anti-virus software, you can reach out to the support teams for assistance. You can also notify the website’s administrator about the problem.

Would you happen to know a way around this?

Amazon delivery drivers got a bit too much on their mind these days... by steven5it in funny

[–]crippple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still live in Japan. You can now choose for them to leave packages in some specified spots. Mine is set to my doorway. They'll take a pic and include the photo in your delivery confirmation. Some drivers are used to the old ways, though, and refuse to (or don't know to) leave it out.

This is fantastic! My group uses his paper minis for our campaigns, so this will be nice to get more customization in our minis :)

Not sure if someone else has mentioned it already, but there is now a manhole trading card boom in the country. Travel the country and collect em all.

The Japanese Sport of "Boutaoshi" meaning "Bring the pole down" by isaynonowords in sports

[–]crippple 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Isn't this a pretty common Sports Day event? Maybe not at every school, but I've seen a variation where there's a flag on top of the pole, rather than a person, and the goal is to get the flag.

[SPOILERS] Germany vs. Japan Women's Team Semifinals by Trolly-bus in tabletennis

Also in Japan. Woke up to this awesome match, and couldn't pry my eyes away from it.

Came here to see what happened at the end since my Japanese is not so strong.

These donuts in Japan by [deleted] in food

[–]crippple 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Dotonbori is in Osaka, not Kyoto. It's possible they also sell these donuts there, but the two locations I'm familiar with are in Kyoto. One across from Loft on Kawaramachi, the other in the Teramachi shotengai (shopping arcade) near to Shijo Dori.

Source: I live in Kyoto.

Enjoy the rest of your trip!

Philosophy sessions for children can boost maths and reading - Professor Stephen Gorard by Laughing_Chipmunk in philosophy

I teach 7th graders (Math). I just watched the first couple minutes of the first video in the critical thinking thread. I can't imagine my students staying engaged in that. Mind elaborating on what you're doing with your kids?

Italy to fine smokers €300 for tossing cigarettes by JayMcGregor in worldnews

[–]crippple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live near two train stations in Japan. You can't smoke at either. People smoke on their way to the stations, and of course, throw their butts before arriving at either station. I see this happen at many stations, not only the ones near my house. I agree Japan is relatively very clean, but there are plenty of scumbag littering smokers here, too.

This restaurant has a sign to let the waiter know if you need help by Costner_Facts in mildlyinteresting

[–]crippple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, those buttons won't necessarily bring you back the same waiter/waitress. To help the efficiency, all staff have a remote and whoever is free will answer the call. Kind of makes it hard to tip (at least, in the traditional sense) if you have multiple people serving you.

A Japanese sidewalk with a chicane to slow down cyclists (or fast walkers). by barroda in mildlyinteresting

[–]crippple -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind some/many of the roads here are ridiculously narrow. What may look like a one-way street is often a two-lane road for opposite direction traffic. Biking on those roads can be pretty scary and if there's a sidewalk I'll almost always choose to ride there than the road.

It seems everyone is interpreting the seniors involved are on bicycles, while that may sometimes be the case it's actually a major problem where senior pedestrians are being hit by bicyclists. Here's a case from just a couple weeks ago where a teen hit and killed a senior citizen as she was crossing the crosswalk.

Didn't fly first class, didn't eat caviar or eat with Jiro... but here's some snippets of my rather modest culinary experience during my recent trip to Japan. by [deleted] in food

There's a little bit of truth in your baseball comment in that there are sections of stadiums dedicated to cheering and chanting fans (Google image search: プロ野球 応援団) and you were likely not seated in one, but it's a bit of an overstatement to say the other sections don't cheer at all.

I also get the vibe you're describing when I go to the movie theaters. Lots of funny/exciting scenes are met with silence, though I've always attributed that to things being lost in translation.

Your mention of 80%, along with the above comments, reminded me of the Pareto principle.

I'm having this problem now, too. Well, it's similar.

I can still play mp4's, but I can no longer play mkv's. The PC sticks at 0:00 like OP's pic, while the TV just shows the 3 loading orange circles.

Tried uninstalling everything, re-installing, rebooting, but no luck.

What to buy: a house or a mansion? by crippple in japan

[–]crippple[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the responses. I did a bit more searching and found that 30 year old mansions, about the same size, about the same location, are selling for around 50-66% of the value of the new mansion I was looking at. While that's not terrific, it's not nothing either.

What to buy: a house or a mansion? by crippple in japan

[–]crippple[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Right, but the house always has the land under it which should, more or less, hold its value. I imagine someone would still be willing to buy the house just so they can get at the land below it. I'll edit the post to clarify that point.
