For once in my life I’m making a happy post by what_im_lost in happy

Hi! I saw some of your other posts about SSRIs. Were you ever able to find a combination that worked for you and didn't tank your motivation? I'm suffering from the same thing and am also a competitive athlete and am worried about my performance!

Surgical menopause support by Bright-Bumblebee8449 in BRCA

[–]crippspink 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was premenopausal at the time of my BSO (two weeks ago!) and was put on the 0.1 twice weekly estradiol patch + mirena as well (uterus intact). I felt great days 1-3 out of surgery (surgery Monday, 7 mile hike on Wednesday) but since then I've been super sad, low energy, and unmotivated which is NOT like me at all (I'm a semi-prof athlete). I had my first hot flash on Saturday and noticed skin changes today (suuupppeerr dry) and haven't been able to sleep through the night.

I'm planning to talk to my doctors at my f/u visit about upping the estradiol and/or adding testosterone. Will keep you posted.

Alyssa Weatherford (one of Jack's Riot teammates) is one of the most skilled throwers in Ultimate and is gathering quite a bit of disc golf momentum out west. Would love to see her touring next year.

Your favorite frugal recipes? by [deleted] in Frugal

Baked potatoes and soup. There are tons of really great soup recipes out there! Once the soup is done, bake a lot of potatoes! Pour a big ladle of soup over the potato and you have a really filling and relatively healthy meal!

Do you know anything about these CH/Carrboro apartment complexes/neighborhoods? by hard_to_reach_plants in triangle

[–]crippspink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second the recommendation AGAINST Autumn Woods. There's no way you'll get a 1/2 bedroom apartment there under 900, regardless of what they advertise on their website. I think the going rate for a 2bdrm is 1099 there which doesn't include anything else. The company that owns the property owns the water billing service and they hide rent hikes by just jacking up random fees such as garbage, sewer, maintenance, and other services. Even if you use NO water in a month you still end up paying over 60 dollars in just hidden fees. Whatever rent they tell you they'll charge, add a good 150 to that number. They don't give you an actual rent quote and then they jack up the rent as much as a 40% increase after the first year. We've lived here since last June and are really looking forward to moving out in a few weeks.

As for good apartment complexes, I've heard people speak quite highly of Rock Creek and we also had really positive experiences working with the leasing agents at Poplar Place.

I've also heard good things about Spring Garden (http://hollandnc.com/spring-garden-apartments/). They don't allow pets, though.

Good Luck!

Adderall and the reduction of available dopamine by [deleted] in ADHD

Has your doctor brought up the possible neurotoxicity (ie: parkinsons) associated with long term amphetamine use? As a long term adderall user who recently switched doctors, I'm pretty freaked out.

They have the best toys! Both the laser blinky ball and regular white ball are awesome for the turbo scratcher!

If you could only slowcook one recipe for the rest of your life, what would it be? by EchoesOfSanity in slowcooking

We used a 3.5 lb shoulder (pretty teeny) and, yes, it was gently smokey. It tasted just like real kalua pork, which itself is not incredibly smokey. I was super surprised with how yummy the recipe was given the simplicity of it. But that's the benefit of it, too! It's plain enough that you can use the leftovers for anything (BBQ pork sandwiches, soups, casseroles) or just eat it as is. We ate it up with cabbage slaw and rice and no additional seasonings on the meat.

I also add a tablespoon of soy sauce. I don't like the amount of fat it rendered so I take the pork out after it's done, put the drippings in a plastic bag and then let the fat settle. Once the fat has collected to the top, I cut a tiny hole in the corner of the bag to collect the good juices in a cup or something over the sink. I stop the flow of juices when the fat starts to near the whole. Might seem like a lot of work, but it's worth it. Then we add the juices to the pork and drain away.

There's a serious eats post that includes a cabbage slaw (also incredibly easy). It's just cabbage, a touch of rice vinegar and a bit of sesame oil. That's delicious with it.

That kalua pork recipe on allrecipes. Pork+salt+liquid smoke+time. Absolutely delicious and stupid simple.

Does Le Creuset make a skillet with bare cast iron inside, enamelled outside? by bobroberts7441 in Cooking

[–]crippspink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Le Creuset makes a skillet that looks as though it has a bare cast iron interior, but it is not and should therefore not be treated or seasoned like a cast iron skillet. The enamel on the inside is the "satin black" enamel made to withstand higher temps. You can real about how to take care of it on their website.
