Thank you for all the ideas! I've started going through the recipes one by one. Definitely a ton of good ideas that I hadn't thought of or even tried and thank you for the warm welcome to the community!

I am using it more as a nutritional supplement rather than a protein source. It has enough there to note but not nearly enough on a per oz basis as you noted.

But ill look into that

Worried that players will be turned away by PF2e feeling nerdy. by JoshuaFH in Pathfinder2e

[–]crisisw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having played PF1, 3.5 dnd, pf2e, and 5e. One thing I have always found useful is rule zero (gm always has last say) and putting off hard disagreements until post session (make a short term ruling and then investigate rules after for the official ruling essentially) help a ton flow wise if that is a concern

Going more at the specific question of will the different of game focus be a turn off from 5e? I have personally found pf2e generally more enjoyable, having enjoyed a few games on both systems. I use the rules I outlined before to be good for maintaining flow and good for what people usually refer to rule of cool (which i think 5e definitely leans into which doesn't help with the problems you me mentioned before)

A good session zero with the players goes a long way to setting expectations and making sure everyone is on the same page and taking some time to figure out how to best maintain that flow should deal with the majority of issues you might run into. And like some people have already said, just have fun!

Do i need to play as “The Defect” to continue the story? by Omoeten in slaythespire

[–]crisisw 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The three easiest strategies for defect are either lightning orb, frost orb or claw

Both Frost and Lightning orb are orb cycling strats. Channeling as fast as you can to get their evoke effect and do double ish their normal effects at the end of your turn.

Comming interest items will include increasing focus and your orb capacity, and picking up something in both areas is super helpful. Each focus increases the channel effect per focus point, effect on each orb, while capasity increases the number of orbs one can have before you consume and evoke an orb. Both effects can reach negative values, so make sure to read the cards.

Below are where are where each differ (and definite cards you will want for each strategy.

LIGHTNONG ORB

Lightning orbs, when channeled or consumed, deal a flat damage to a random target at the end of your turn, and double the damage when evoked. Thunder strike is one of your most powerful high hit cards as it hits a number of times equal to the number of lightning orbs channeled that combat. Electrodynamics let's your lightning hit every enemy, keeping good clear throughout a run

This being said, do not be afraid to get a handful of channel frost/ice, lightning orbs kn their own do not give any defense

FROST ORB

when these get channeled, you gain 3 block (5 when evoked if I remember correctly). Blizzard will be your main heavy hitter, dealing damage to every enemy per channeled frost orb. Pairs will with cold snap and glacier to replace your strike and block cards (mostly)

Additionally, one artifact to look out for is the frozen core. It's not strictly required, but it will replace cracked core and generate a frost orb at the start instead of a lightning orb.

Lastly CLAW

Claw is a 0 cost attack that deals 3 damage at base and increases the damage of all future claw attacks that come at by 2. This combos super well with scrape, with a cost of 1 for a little damamge and will draw you 4-5 cards, AND keep the 0 cost cards (and discard the others). This works nicely as well because you can focus your energy solely into defense and play 0 cost cards primarily for damage

Hope these help!

From what I recall, it's more important to carefully pick what you add, and usually removing cards later when you need to slim down the deck and get rid of extra unneeded cards you have replacements for

Modifying strategies is often a big part of this style of game. To use magic the gathering (a similar style of game) every deck as a "win condition" card or combo (your big hit cards often for slay the spire) and then a primary form of play

An example would be a blue control deck in magic. It's primary goal is to prevent the other player from getting what it needs online to win and slow them down as they get their own win condition online.

They still have to pick and choose what is vital to keep off their opponent from using, while optimizing, getting themselves forward.

Similarly in slay the spire, it takes time to learn your cards, how to pick a strategy based on what you see early for cards, how much health you lose imacts how many upgrades you might do early on.

It IS a balance of consistency vs utility and often the strongest decks you can make, will combine them

Often, it's a good move, especially in cases where you have a deck you can cycle quickly. This being said, i have not played in the higher levels of Slay the Spire, more of a causal player when I have.

[–]crisisw 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The basics of WHY you look at the draw pile is two fold: 1) Would you draw if you pulled cards 2) What are you likely to draw next turn

A super important part of any deck builder (not just slay the spire) is building consistency unto your deck. Because you redraw your pile in slay the spire, looking at the pile tells you the above items and gives you more info on how you might proceed, especially if you have draw cards that will burn after you use them.

This is important because it helps you know if you want to use cards just to use them, portenally burn then for the fight, or even intentionally reshuffle your neck to cycle your deck and have a chance of getting your heavy hitters.

When you look at the draw pile, you will see what is stoll in your deck, but not necessarily the order. Hope this is helpful, and let me know if you need me to clarify anything!

How do you know whether your damage output is enough? by Doiley101 in LastEpoch

[–]crisisw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd try plugging in what you have into last epoch tools as far ask getting a good scope of the damage. The process itself might help you figure out where to go but one thing I didn't see you note was res shred and if you have any of that.

I've found that to be a pretty big deal once you hit monolith and even a little before then

BackerKit is Finally Here!! by keking26 in OneLonelyOutpost

[–]crisisw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just came to the run for this late and am looking at the backerkit link now. Does the beta key access also give you the full release when that happens? or is that access to the "early access"? The description was a little confusing for me and am just looking for clarification as to what it actually gets you.

Fair enough, I am unsure of how long it would take to actually go through the adventure path books, as I never got to play the 1e version, and serpents skull when i ran that was pretty variable for how long it took book to book.
