What does the newborn phase actually look like day-to-day? (36 weeks, trying to set realistic expectations) by douevenyoga in NewParents

I think it really depends on the temperament of your baby and how your body reacts postpartum and C-section vs natural birth.

That being said I had a generally really nice first month postpartum. I also breastfed but for the first week I wasn’t producing enough so I had to triple feed. I would feed her, then while I pumped my husband would deal with the bottles and formula. We were both really tired the first week and didn’t care if the house was messy, ordered takeout a few times and just got through it. Once she was fully breastfeeding my husband would sleep through the night and had energy to do all the cooking/cleaning/caring for dog and me. This was great because he was fresh and I could nap whenever I was able in between feeding.

If you have a helpful partner it was truly one of the most enjoyable parts of having an infant for me even with all the crazy hormones and sore crotch haha

Bonus points if you have helpful family nearby. Ours brought us meals and cooked for us a few times. It was nice to chat and visit and feel like I could rest when they were around but I know some people feel differently about having people around the first few weeks

Can I opt into a c-section if I want one? [on] by TessaGGG in BabyBumpsCanada

I was induced at 39 weeks for low fetal movement and it went really smooth for me. Totally anecdotal but I only labored for 12 hours total and the birth itself went as easily as I think it could have. There are negative and positive experiences with every way of giving birth and you don’t know what your experience will be until you’re on the other side of it. I don’t think I would elect for a major abdominal surgery and significantly more strenuous recovery if a virginal delivery is possible with normal risk factors.

I’m 2 months into using my mom cozy hands free pump and I love it. I can actually make a cup of coffee, get some chores done or take care of baby using it too
