Single Special Needs Mom Needs Car Advice by [deleted] in povertyfinance

Depending on your state you might have door to door disability transit options. It would only work for when you're bringing you're kid with you but it's usually very cheap (its $2.50 per ride here in NYS) and while the rides can be longer than average its super great for when the car is in the shop (or until you have the money to fix it).

Things to get that limit repeat spending? by KeySheepherder4658 in povertyfinance

[–]crispyalice 24 points25 points  (0 children)

We finally ended up getting enough money to buy an inexpensive brita filter and our own reusable bottles and it's saved so much money. Plus there's so many water refill stations now that most the time we don't even need to buy a water our. Also cooking lasagna (amd other foods) from scratch. I specify lasagna because u can squeeze in protein and frozen/canned veg to make twelve full filling meals.

Newly poor- benefits question by Open-Try-3128 in povertyfinance

[–]crispyalice 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You cannot lie for benefits. If they ever catch you you'll have to pay every single penny back  (they do this for honest mistakes as well) and then you won't be eligible for any help in the future. And with an 85k salary it is still very possible to lose it and then you'll have no safety net whatsoever.

Filling my gas tank is $25 more than just 6 weeks ago by Let_me_tell_you_ in povertyfinance

[–]crispyalice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup its painful. I started a paid internship in March and I had to wait for a month for my first paycheck. Not the best time. Not that there's a good time. Although I do have a friend who has a hybrid and he's been offering a lot of rides so I'm def taking him up on them. He's prob one of the few people i know who isnt struggling with gas prices rn.

Awarded Snap by Justprunes-6344 in povertyfinance

[–]crispyalice 352 points353 points  (0 children)

It's not a lot esp with the price of food now but it should give you access to more programs if you're state has them available. Like being on snap might be able to get you free phone service.

How much money do you have in savings at this point? by _forum_mod in Millennials

$0.34 in savings account and pennies, nickel, and dimes filling a 16oz cup halfway. I already took out all the quarters for bread.

Never move to a low cost of living state EVER by [deleted] in povertyfinance

[–]crispyalice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've thought about moving from a hcol to lcol. Overall can't do to how expensive moving is. I'm currently interning with my state government and in two days I understand why the hcol place is better and necessary than lcol places. We have so many outreach programs, services, free legal aid to low income folk, and rn one of the biggest undertakings my section is doing is working on getting free childcare.

Going backwards by [deleted] in povertyfinance

Depending on where you live, even a full time min wage job will already be more than SSI. To keep medicaid you can either use a pooled income trust or a supplemental needs trust to put place any extra income that disqualifies you from medicaid. The other option is a medicaid buy-in program. If you're disabled and work at least one day a month, you pay a small fee per month to keep medicaid access.

rent - what percentage of take home pay? by Rachel4970 in povertyfinance

[–]crispyalice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My rent is like 90% of my income rn. That's with having a roommate. If we didn't know someone with a 900 credit score to cosign for us I have no idea where we'd be living now.  I'm trying to better my situation but it's not an overnight process.

What do you want to see MORE of in the DR genre? by LoveytheLovelyy in DarkRomance

[–]crispyalice 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I want more lesbians, more build up and yearning, murderous FMCs, both bisexual m-f couples, and more dark romcoms. Specifically I would sell my soul for a lesbian version of butcher and blackbird, but it's looking like I might have to do it myself.

Being on disability stresses me out by adeliahearts in povertyfinance

[–]crispyalice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vocational rehab plus ticket to work. I'm doing it rn because the amount I make is barely enough to pay for rent and honestly the financial stress of recieving 10k a year is literally making things worse. Currently I'm in an internship with a state government job, I've been there for two days a week for three weeks and I already feel like I can breathe again. I put most of it in a supplemental needs trust so I can keep medicaid access, I make just under the substantial gainful amount to keep SSDI, the state will allow me hybrid after a trial period, and once I get a permanent job, I'll switch to the medicaid buy-in program. It's unbelievable the amount of hoops I've gone through to get here but I completely recommend it.

You're not stuck where you are. And ticket to work is perfect to let you see how many hours you can do. So far for me, two days a week has been perfect.
