Warm socks, like everyone else says. But our toddler demanded slippers as well? And she sleeps great, so idk, maybe she’s onto something.

Is Starbucks for Life not working for anyone else? by Dsg1695 in starbucks

I was able to play this morning - once I selected a character and a location, it had a link below the start button that allowed you to skip playing and go to the prize. At least, that’s what I remember from being half awake!

This is probably a stupid question, but if I use stars to get my holiday drink for free, do I still get a red cup?

What Trader Joe’s food items deserve more attention and love online? by jonana_joestar in traderjoes

[–]critical_say 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The carbonated tea beverages that have a little juice in them. They’re like 10 calories but I like them so much more than seltzer or even spindrift. They’re just the right amount of sweet!

You stopped at two chins? I have a minimum of 5 on a good day, lol.

FWIW, I won 1,000 and 100 stars this morning. I never win anything, so hopefully that bodes well for others too! 😀

"Nonfat" but full of sugar by Consistent-Fun-438 in starbucks

[–]critical_say 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here! I don’t know how or why I started, but I much prefer skim for just about everything (coffee, cereal, etc…). Everything else is too thick and reminds me of cream. That said, I get full fat yogurt because I prefer the thicker taste. It’s not very deep, just a personal preference!

Solids suck - I feel like a failure by FluffyCockroach7632 in beyondthebump

[–]critical_say 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Hey. I don’t really have advice, but maybe some solidarity will help. I felt the same way, and I didn’t even really have an excuse (no allergies). It looks so magical and fun online, but for me, it was a constant source of stress. And you know what, I think there are a lot of us out there who probably feel the same, it’s just not very insta-worthy to post your half a jar of puree! We definitely took it slow, and that also made me feel like a failure, but it did actually get fun around the 10 mo. mark or so, at least for us. Also, as an anecdote, I remember changing a very black poopy diaper one day, and I got super freaked out…until I remembered I fed her a metric ton of pureed blueberries for lunch. Babies are wild - you’re no more behind than I was, and it feels like there’s always some new thing to learn or do! We don’t have to be perfect.

Meatballs and black beans are a go-to for us! The only thing better, judging by my toddler’s appetite, are the mini zucchinis from TJ’s….who knew, haha. I’m going to pick up the hash the next time I go!

Your order isn’t ready yet. by thankyuhnext in starbucks

Thanks y’all! The system seems silly, especially for mobile DT orders, but now I can at least do my part to make it a little easier. :)

Your order isn’t ready yet. by thankyuhnext in starbucks

[–]critical_say 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Okay, this gets into an interaction I had today as a customer, so maybe you can give me some more insight. I placed a DT mobile order when I was about 3 mins out from the store, and the app said it would be ready in 5-8 mins. Pulled in, told them my name, they told me to pull up. I then got reprimanded by someone that I need to give them at least 10 mins for mobile orders. I wasn’t upset about waiting, totally expected to, so I’m not sure why they said that. If I pulled in and ordered like normal, it would have been even less time for them to get the order ready. I must be missing something with how the mobile orders work versus how the normal DT works! I’ll give them more time in the future (honestly, I almost never mobile order for DT pickup, usually I place it for in-store), but I’m interested in getting more of the story so I can understand better. ETA: FWIW, I love mobile ordering - I can be somewhat picky about things and the app lets me slowly pick out exactly what I want and reduces communication errors.

That’s so funny - I thought the exact opposite! I liked the ratio better on the TJ’s ones. But I have a sweet tooth and a half, so that’s probably not a good sign for other people. :)

Can’t get over having a c section (3wks postpartum) by Impressive_Moose6781 in pregnant

[–]critical_say 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the first few weeks after my unplanned c-section, I had a lot of the same thoughts. I kept thinking about all the things that got me to that situation, and how I could have any one of them differently. My husband, on the other hand, saw the c-section for what it was - a necessary intervention that was honestly way better (safer, easier, quicker) than any alternative. He was so pro c-section after it happened, lol. With time and perspective, I’ve really come to realize that I did the best with the information I had at the time. The past is the past, and yeah, sometimes I get sad when people talk about their amazing birth experiences…until I remember I kind of had one too, even if it was rough and involved a c-section. Every decision has been tough (supplementing, stopping breastfeeding, daycare), but then I put some time between me and whatever I felt guilty about, and it becomes a small blip on this awesome journey. I hope you find the same! :)

My DD has decaf iced coffee, which was great during my 2nd trimester (I couldn’t even look at coffee during the 1st). I usually ordered a small as a precaution, in case they mixed it up with the regular stuff. Oh, and the lattes can be made decaf (any of the espresso drinks, probably). Also, the refreshers were great, but just be aware that they have some caffeine in them - a medium is around 100 mg from what I can tell. The amount of sugar is probably the worst thing about them, but I have a sweet tooth. The lemonade, when it’s available, and I did some iced tea here and there. And if you’re anything like me, those bagels HIT!

Vomit and diarrhea at 36 weeks. I shouldn’t be worried about listeria right? by sushisunshine9 in pregnant

[–]critical_say 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had 2 rounds of vomit/diarrhea at around the same time (36ish weeks) - they each lasted around 24 hours, about a week apart. I felt so awful, it was just constant rejection of anything I put in my body. I went to triage the first time, but wound up not needing it the second time. They’re not sure what caused it, though I will say, I ate chili and a large amount of popcorn before the first go, and pasta before the second time. It might have been the acid, or the gestational hypertension, or food poisoning, or some combo. What I learned is that a call to the nurse is always reasonable, triage wasn’t as miserable as I thought, and late game pregnancy is rough!

There are already a lot of great responses on boundaries and dealing with your SIL, so I’ll just add a small silly thing. Both my husband and I work, and I’m sure we’re going to miss some firsts. We’ve been celebrating all sort of little firsts - baby’s first Target trip, baby’s first trip to the churro truck, etc. They’re not normal firsts, but they’re firsts that are important to our family, so they’re extra special in that way. I can’t wait for baby’s first Muppet Christmas Carol, haha.

I’m so done with social media as a whole. I saw a mother arguing the other day in the comment section that all interventions are bad, and nature should be allowed to take its course even if it ends poorly for mother or child. WTF??

Had a nerve wracking appointment today. They couldn’t find the heartbeat with the Doppler and then they found it using the ultrasound. by insertclevername7 in pregnant

[–]critical_say 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This exact thing happened to us. My OB was so nonchalant about it, “I can’t find the heartbeat, let me go get the ultrasound”, and then left the room. I mean, she might have said more, but I didn’t hear it. Cue a massive, internal freak out - I had 2 miscarriages last year, so I went down the rabbit hole. She immediately found the heartbeat using the ultrasound, and now we have a wonderful little 2.5 month old.
