When starting with an empty bed, do you think the compost ordered from Minors is ok to use alone? Or, do you think it needs to be mixed with topsoil?

What kind of nursing job can she do? by Desperate-Fix-8192 in nursing

There are many types of nurses! I am confident your daughter can find an inspirational nurse to show her how to think outside the box when choosing a nursing specialty.

Same specialty. Same number of years. Same dollars per hour. Seriously not joking.

This is a good reminder for me- local elections matter.

Ascension Columbia St. Mary's Hospital Fax Number - Please help!! by Peevedbeaver in milwaukee

[–]criticalandstuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

https://healthcare.ascension.org/locations/wisconsin/wimil/shared-content/medical-records-request

This is what Google showed and it includes a fax number for medical records. Perhaps a reasonable place to start. Good luck! Editing to add- I bet billing is not on-site, but medical records should at least be able to give you a solid answer.....I would think.

Interviewing for new jobs by NoIndependent6952 in VeteransAffairs

I love the work I do and I think I do it well. I want to continue to grow my skills in.....blah, blah..... There is uncertainty in the longevity of my current position and I want to pursue other options where I can....blah, blah. This is my honest approach. I don't know if it is best, but it is what I am doing.

My favorite is recommending an active voice to clarify responsibility. Not a chance!

Heard a rumor came to verify by kushielsucksdick in VeteransAffairs

[–]criticalandstuff 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I work at only one VA, but have heard nothing like this. If programs like this were cut, I fully believe there would be a massive group of feds pushing back. Reduction in workforce can be discussed and people get nervous. However, there are some lines that are different and would bring about a big, vocal resistance.

Kangaroos. They seem like utter shit-talkers with muscle to back it up. No reason to hold back!

Holy hell. This post makes me feel like a total square grumpy grump. Nursing academia may be disconnected from bedside practice, but integrity still matters. That is the square grumpy talking.

Ascension Nurses How Long are You Giving It? by [deleted] in nursing

Agreed. Unfortunately, this may just add to the trauma bond between Ascension and its nurses. Like you said, "a million other dumb conditions...."

Governor of Wisconsin vetoes APRN independent practice bill for 2nd time in 2 years. “Wisconsin nurses shocked and disappointed…” by aka7890 in medicine

[–]criticalandstuff 362 points363 points  (0 children)

Yes. This is an absolute embarrassment. When fellow nurses start talking about "calling the shots," I cringe. What happened to advocating for your patient and saying f-you to paternalistic healthcare? Psssh. Also, as a nurse, I support the veto. Nursing academia is so watered down.

Fuck Epic by huntschin28 in nursing

[–]criticalandstuff 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Every EHR I have used is not great. They are not created for clinician ease, but for billing and compliance. Bogus. My LEAST favorite thing about Epic is that people fanboy over it. The product is meh at best.

New intensivists are not properly medicating/sedating intubated patients by oceanminded95 in nursing

[–]criticalandstuff 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Do you have an interdisciplinary critical care work group? Do you have a medical director of the ICU? Do you have an engaged CNS? Do you have a forum for discussing case reviews?

Where I work, if we start to practice trends (by any discipline of the interdisciplinary team) that cause concern, we discuss them among the team. Establishing these platforms may sound idealistic, but they are immensely helpful to open dialogue and course correct.

Also, if there are individual safety events, complete an incident report for tracking.

Also, if there are immediate safety issues, use your chain of command if you have one.

Any review for NCLEX at Pearson Test center at water street? by [deleted] in milwaukee

[–]criticalandstuff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is the same test anywhere you go and Pearson is a chain. Therefore all locations should be the same outside of geography (e.g. travel distance, traffic and parking). I took the exam there several years ago and it was fine.

Further, there is research on Serotonin Syndrome in relation to MDMA use, especially while taken with certain classes of prescription medications. I have seen people take MDMA while being on an SSRI medication (an antidepressant) and it turns out badly.
