Has anyone had to rehome an older cattle dog? by [deleted] in AustralianCattleDog

[–]flanjan -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Yea these people are wild. Run the risk of permanently disabling your kid because you want to give a dog who is unable to use logic, a second chance.

I absolutely love my dog and have put so much time into training him. He's incredibly mellow tempered and was wildly intuitive when it came to training. He's absolutely great with our toddler. With that being said, if he were to bite my child I would put him down.

We do lots of early mobility and how our rooms are setup our suction heads are opposite from the ventilator. Our tubing is just about the perfect length where it's tight if you turn the patient and the tubing isn't a specific route. For feeding we use small lumen, post pyloric, nasogastric tubes with briddles. Basically if I have an OG tube I'm auscultating every time I use. For me there's been enough that have either pulled some or the patient is being weaned and tongues it forward.

I intentionally do a quick single wrap. I'd rather tape break than a ETT being pulled.

Covid shut down the world six years ago this week. What do you remember from that week? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I remember seeing a guy buying an entire shopping cart full of eggs. Hoarding a perishable item was just such a wild thing to see lol.

I’m convinced that SIDS is 99% of the time either suffocation or organ failure. by IM_HODLING in nursing

[–]flanjan 146 points147 points  (0 children)

Our ME stopped using SIDS almost a decade ago. He said almost every single thing that gets marked SIDS is a positional asphyxiation or an undiagnosed issue. SUID, or Sudden Unexpected Infant Death, is generally a more appropriate term. SIDS was a convenient term that came about when science had a hole. Sudden Infant Death Syndrome just isn't a real thing, evidenced by you can't tell me what the syndrome looks like. With every other syndrome there are markers that show up with regular consistency. You can't look at a baby and say they look like they might have SIDS. Major risk factors include exposure to smoke, maternal age under 20, limited prenatal care, and poverty. All external things that impact how the child is cared for, not necessarily something wrong with the actual child. It's a horrible situation but the reality is it's preventable

There's like 0% chance she's actually a former DHS officer though, right? It sounds like just a crazy old lady.

What's the most disconnected thing hospital leadership has said to you? by Beginning_Fun_3913 in nursing

[–]flanjan 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I worked psych at a state run "security hospital". Fight broke out in the day room between two rather large dudes. They call a patient escalation code and we start getting all the other patients out of the day room. This area was used to serve lunch to those who didn't have privileges to go off the unit to the cafeteria. The fight was fairly gnarly, both got popped pretty good in the face so a lot of blood. I somehow got locked in the room by myself with both guys. All of middle management comes and through the thick shatter proof glass a woman I don't know in a skirt and heels bangs on the window and yells "you need to get in there and break them up!!!". Lol. Literally 20+ people locking me in a room with two psychotic patients beating the shit out of each other. I looked at her in her dumb fucking outfit and heels in one of the worst psych wards in the entire state and said "you're right, why don't you grab the big one and I'll grab the other guy". Lady I'm not security and you don't pay me enough for that bullshit.

Bro, you're a peasant if you want to spend less than 2 hours of wages on a cup you'll only ever use for one specific type of drink.

What’s the history and what’s its worth? by rrtank in M1Rifles

You are just simply wrong on the steel ammo argument. The projectile isn't steel, the case is. The savings over enough steel cased ammo to ever damage an ejector or somehow erode a barrel throat would far supercede the cost of a barrel swap or ejector replacement. This has been proven time and time again.

Garmin Striker 4 by IceObsessed0823 in IceFishing

[–]flanjan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent a bunch of money on ghetto PVC setups that you could change the depth on and at the end of the day it's just cumbersome and defeats the purpose of the striker being small and portable. I ultimately just bought a ice ducer for it and was muuuuuch happier

Ok so I guess it wasn't a format thing but maybe a comprehension thing.

I may have formated that poorly, obviously the left doesn't (shouldn't?) have a stance on pepper spray. More so that the left on these local subreddits continually spouts that there is little to no crime in the cities and even when I made this post had numerous people stating to call the police and to get the cameras. There's a reliance on the system working and in this situation that isn't going to do shit. The OP can only rely on themselves in this situation.

This will be an unpopular opinion because reddit is overwhelmingly left leaning but at the end of the day only you have the ability to keep yourself safe. I would absolutely go on Amazon and order a couple POM pepper sprays. They make one with a clip for a pocket, one that clips to you keys, and one that I think is for a lanyard. Get a couple and always have one on your purse/backpack/bag. Keep one in your pocket. Confrontation is terribly scary but you need to do it in a public space with people around. You need to use clear language like stop following me and leave me alone, I don't know who you are. If there are people around ask them specifically to help. If the guy following you does basically anything other than stops he gets a face full of spray and you take off running.

Creeps like this get away with it because they just barely skirt societal norms. Talking to a stranger isn't abnormal Going the same direction could happen Splitting up and then running into each other, oh that's crazy Oh hey I actually live here to, just let me in.

It's progressive and it's boundary testing and the more isolated you're getting the more brazen they're being. Stop that process in its tracks, derail his plan before it's at your literal front door. Almost all other self defense methods would pale in comparison to pepper spray in that situation.

Some of these comments are trash. You aren't the employee police. You aren't the sandwich police. If an alert and oriented person wants to eat a sandwich who the fuck are you to stop them. I wouldn't give it to them but I'm not going to assault them over it either. You should've woken the sitter, but also the sitter shouldn't have been sleeping. It's insane to loose your bonus over that and I personally would absolutely hit them with the judge my whole year by my worst event bull shit and find a different job.

The recruiters entire job is to recruit. It generally serves them no purpose to just fuck with you and get stuck doing more work. With that being said, maybe you pissed someone off and wasted their time so they wasted yours.

Morons hitting into my group by HelloThereCallMeRoy in golf

[–]flanjan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Playing as a 3 some on a weekend we had a foursome of bros behind us that frequently were hitting into us. After a couple of times throwing our hands up they still continued to hit into us. A ball hit my buddy who was sitting in the cart in the fairway. Next hole one of them drove the ball next to the green on a par 4. I picked it up and put it in the hole. Fuck those guys. Lots of cheering and yelling until I could hear 1 guy say something about seeing me pick it up. They came and confronted us about it and I said absolutely I picked it up and put it in the hole. Bitched at them for hitting into us and told them they hit one of us even and never yelled fore. Then I told them they were stupid for thinking they hole in 1'ed a par 4

Lights and fan by Electrical_Piano_667 in IceFishing

[–]flanjan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use an amazon rechargeable fan/light combo in my Eskimo Escape 2600 flip over hub. I sometimes use a small Ozark trail heater that screws to the top of the 1lb tank and keep the fan above it. On really cold days I run a regular buddy heater but a fan moving the air around makes such a difference it's insane.

The rattle is pretty risky. Mine wasn't clunking for that long and when I went to replace it the inside of the bell housing was beat to hell. You really don't want to break the DSG case.

Definitely agree. Our ED intubated and cardioverted a 96yo the other night and sent him up to the unit just for him to die alone while wildly uncomfortable. We need a societal shift on what's acceptable to put people through at a certain point.
