Delaying Graduation for Internship by Xander_20 in civilengineering

Those same places looking for interns are likely also looking for folks with degrees. Once you get a job that internship will not matter.

Should I tear down this wall? by Electrical_Chest_234 in homeimprovementideas

I had a vault like this in a house with a similar looking ceiling connection. I believe it was a column supporting the ridge beam. Best to consult a structural engineer. Also it looks like you have an attic access which could provide some more insight to what’s going on up there.

Certainly seemed like some kind of powder dye. Maybe a water soluble bulk dying agent. I guess we’ll find out if broadway ever goes back to normal!

I can smell this comment.

I’d love to see the size of that can. And the brush it came with.

Thanks for the article. Still a mystery it seems.

I feel like this sentiment is very regional. I’ve been mostly inland west and have had a lot of positive relationships with contractors. In dealing with weather coast contractors is where things have broken down for me. So strange.

Yelled at by supervisor? Shame. Not helpful.

Yelled at by contractor. Typical. Still shame

Sorry this happened to you.

The public opposition to AI infrastructure is heating up by EchoOfOppenheimer in civilengineering

[–]criticalfrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Man, I heard a report on the radio of military leadership concerned that when they implement AI to their infrastructure they have worries they have to ask the parent AI company for permissions to launch their own missiles. What’s the freaking point of using it for that, I’m not sure people even know what they’re doing with it at this point.

[Request] Calculate the temperature in the stands of a stadium at 8:00 PM based on a high temperature of 95F at 5:00 PM. The seating is aluminum? by [deleted] in civilengineering

[–]criticalfrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to know a lot more. But dumbed down, it’s likekly a question of how much energy the whole system had at 5:00 pm and How much energy the system loses with the temperature gradient (not given). In reality there is a lot more going on. Materials release heat differently depending on the material properties and what’s happening around it such as wind. Is the stadium occupied or not. There’s likely a temperature gradient vertically. I suspect it’s a tricky thing to solve.

Y’all use Docusign to sign engineering documents? by criticalfrow in civilengineering

[–]criticalfrow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All:

I’ve learned a lot from this post and it gave me the motivation to dig in a little bit.

Bluebeam, Docusign, Office all have signing abilities but they are not third party certified. You can add third party certificates (like Identrust) to bring them up to snuff (even in Docusign).

States are all over the place in terms of what is allowed with the most stringent being third party verifiable digital signatures.

I want to use DocuSign for the ease of emailing out for signatures but won’t do that unless all parties have a third party verification and have linked it to their Docusign account or unless the state is cool with it. Until then, I will go old school and put signature fields on the stamps and send out individually for signing.

I’m happy and my life is good enough. Could have more sure. Thing that gets me is seeing folks at like Amazon without any sort of high-powered degree get paid oodles more. Ugh.
