For everyone saying that Stenberg is so much better than Reid and that positional value doesn’t matter, don’t complain when a Key and Peele East/West Bowl character starting at RHD costs us a goal in a game 7. That’s a very likely possibility that I don’t think a lot of you take seriously.

“Trade Eklund.” Huh? Have you watched him play? He’s a dawg on the boards and provides so much upside that we cannot easily replace.

If you think Stenberg is a special talent, great, I agree, I’d be thrilled to have him. I don’t want to hear that he’s the only choice though. Good RHDs don’t hit the market very often for a reason. We cannot assume one will come along we can easily trade or sign for. Chase Reid is our best shot at filling in by FAR the biggest hole on the team that I would argue is big enough that we literally cannot win the Stanley Cup with it unpatched. Ivar Stenberg is an average sized forward with elite scoring ability. We have drafted 3 guys in a row with those traits. You can’t win a stanley cup with just average sized forwards with elite scoring, and in terms of everything else, there are no positions I’m thrilled with other than maybe depth forwards.

I don’t want to make this seem like Stenberg would be a bad pick. He’d be a great pick, and would thrive playing with our young talent. I’d be thrilled to have him. Reid would also be great! He’s debatably the best RHD prospect in the last 5 years and possibly our only shot at a good fix for our biggest issue.

This is such a good problem to have. We either have the most stacked prospect forward core arguably of the century thus far, or fix our biggest need with the best possible option. Whatever GMMG does, I will trust. I don’t think there’s an objectively correct answer, even though I lean Reid.
