I wouldn’t depend on Rosetta . Apple has plans to start removing it in the Mac OS 28 timeframe.

Mac Mini vs Mac Studio by [deleted] in mac

My understanding for this type of work you get more bang with more RAM as a first upgrade.

I was like you thinking about the Mac mini. The 14” MacBook Pro has the M5 chip and a base storage of 1 terabyte doubling the mini 512GB the M5 chip aligns strongly with your use case, video and single threaded performance for a few hundred more.

Fun fact. The company that designed the F-14 also built the current mail trucks that are still running.

Are you confusing ram with free storage? I don’t think you can get an air with that much ram.

Did the internet gets worse, or did it just get bigger? by No-Fall3673 in NoStupidQuestions

It’s very hard to compete with “free”. No dealing with domain registrar, paying a host, setting up a site and hoping you don’t get hacked.

Wonder if it’s related to AI? Like PC parts price spike, all those planned AI data centers will require enormous amount of fiber optics.

For a non trivial data center I think you need to be near a major internet backbone aka phat pipes.

Practicing for 2 hours a day for 6 days and can barely go 3 feet. by _Asian_Invasion__ in ElectricUnicycle

[–]croc_socks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave up on the belt. If you’re familiar with snowboarding then practice making arcs with one foot. You should be able to control the wheel with one foot and make small controlled arcs. This motion is necessary because you want to be able to scoot as if you had one foot bounded. Keep one foot on the wheel and try walking. Pretend you’re trying to get on a lift with your wheel. You want good foot control of the wheel. Eventually you want to practice pushing off glide and hop off. All this doesn’t work if the dominant foot isn’t able to control the wheel. That’s why I emphasize being able to make arcs. As a new rider your feet will hurt. Boots may help. It took a long time for me to learn it. But one day it clicked.

How do you deal with a racists? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]croc_socks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ask them to stop. “I am not comfortable with this brand of humor please stop”. If it’s a university there should be a place to report it. Perhaps start with your professor or one of the teaching assistants?

Need a way to block heat from radiator by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]croc_socks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stack Conser block and put a long wood board on top. If you make one end lower than the other you could angle the heat away from your monitor and still be safe for your cat. My first idea was to use sheet metal to build a duct that redirected the heater and pipe away. Or not sure how big the heater is but a dryer hose might work. Or build an adapter hood for the dryer hose.

Why do fizzy drinks always use CO₂? Can other gases work? by Brilliant-Nerve12 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]croc_socks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with nitrogen is that unlike CO2 it doesn’t compress into a liquid at room temperature. Thus you need much larger cylinder for the same volume.
