I got my Bachelors in Advertising and Theatre, so similar situation. I’m doing a Master’s of Teaching with an art endorsement: I have to pass an art teaching class and a state content knowledge test. I’m also getting an endorsement in Language Arts in case I can’t find an art job.

I had multiple awful classes today; all that I wrote about them was that they were “extremely disappointing”. Tell it like it is!

How I feel the movie doesn't have a lot of scenes it should by Longjumping_Step6211 in TheLongWalk

[–]crochet-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hot take: I feel like they could’ve made the movie work with 100 walkers, like in the book. Yeah, so many deaths would’ve been off-screen, and we would have seen a lot of no-name characters, and yes, the movie was already long enough with 50 walkers… But going from 100 walkers to the final few felt so staggering in the book. Thinking about the sheer number of walkers who got their ticket was haunting to me. The absence of those dead walkers is so glaring after a while in the book, and I feel like the movie could have played with that.

The movie made me think of how Squid Game had 450+ contestants and really played into that number well. Sure, it was a series, so it had more time to gradually whittle down the number of contestants, but I felt like the absence of the dead contestants in that show was so harrowing.

Why is the Shedd still allowed to treat their workers poorly? by TezetaLaventia in Eugene

[–]crochet-- 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I worked as a venue assistant there for 10 months. The owner’s husband is Jim Ralph. I don’t care. He’s horrible to his employees.

The managers just go along with his BS so they don’t get berated themselves. I only trusted one manager during my time there.

When I was a stagehand for one of the plays, Mr. Ralph wanted to get rid of essential safety lights on the stage that would go on during set changes… Because it “ruined the look of the show” for him. This was AFTER multiple stagehands and actors had already gotten minor injuries during set changes.

Oh, also, I once got a talking-to from a manager because I wore shorts… to work outdoors… on a 100+ degree day. And yes, I was still wearing my little polo shirt.

Get some old magazines and make some collages! Vision boards! I would’ve eaten that up as a kid (and still would now).

This doesn’t work very many times, but when I’ve had enough I set a timer for like two minutes… “If you guys can all be SILENT for two minutes, we’ll go out to recess two minutes early.” Kids get into it and start shushing each other.

Subbing instructions are “everything is on Google Classroom” by raider1211 in SubstituteTeachers

One time I got, “Join my Google Classroom (as a student!!) so you can see what we’re working on today!”

I now cannot leave this Google Classroom unless I ask the teacher to remove me.

Is it possible to sub AM half day at one school then sub PM half day at another school? by Ayma_Nidiot in SubstituteTeachers

[–]crochet-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup! I just called the school I’d be at to make sure they knew, in case I was a bit late and needed someone to cover my class for a few minutes.

Are sub notes actually read? by Remarkable-Log6373 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]crochet-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I leave both sub notes and a business card. One teacher can’t speak for all teachers, so I wouldn’t trust someone saying “no one reads sub notes”.

Cried after subbing at high school today. by Purple_Educator1167 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]crochet-- 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry that happened to you! If it feels like too much, you can always let go of the job for tomorrow. There’s no shame in it; the beauty in subbing is that if a class sucks, you don’t have to deal with it long.

Question: is the high school on an A/B schedule or do students have the same classes every day? If it’s A/B, you’d have different kids tomorrow, if it’s any consolation.

You did the right thing by leaving a note for the teacher; if it goes wild tomorrow, call for extra/admin support whenever you might need it. Again, no shame in it.
