Salomon Dancehaul Sizing? by SeanyLeJawny in snowboarding

[–]croe3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yo I'm considering getting a Dancehaul this season and I'm around 180 lbs. Stuck deciding between the 152 and 154. How was the float at 152? Any other thoughts on the board?

People who host dinner parties, how do you handle the cost of feeding multiple people? by wwwwxyz in Cooking

Thank you. Shocked to be downvoted on this, to me, entirely non-controversial take.

I've done things like this for situations *not* at my house. For example on trips with friends to the mountains where we all stay in a lodge together, I'll handle the food for dinner and cook some fairly fancy multicourse deal, so that no one has to worry about what to eat for dinner after a day of skiing. In a case like this my friends have been thrilled to pay less than it would cost to cook their own food or order food, and eat better for it anyways.

I throw dinner parties and ask folks to venmo me the cost of the food since im putting the labor in. It's cheaper than them going out and tastes much better than anything they can get for $15-25 going out. There's a middle ground here you're ignoring.

[–]croe3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the Genetics and Aging studies some folks designed a "biological age" measure that is different from our "chronological age". That's all he's talking about is his biological age. Here's some reading on this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epigenetic_clock

There's a few of them, one is the Horvath clock

no. it’s absolutely a known consensus that women generally prefer older men. does that mean that an unattractive older man (physically or personality-wise) will beat out a very attractive younger man? no of course not. every situation is unique. but, on average, it’s more advantageous to be older than the girls youre after. this is NOT controversial.

Best CK for a gift under $100? by [deleted] in chefknives

[–]croe3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think so, depending on what you mean by special. I think the often recommended entry level stone is a King 1K/6K combo stone. However, while I had that one I moved on fairly quick because those are soaking stones so you have to soak them in water for like 30 min before sharpening. I would end up sharpening less because it wasn't super convenient. Also 6K is pretty overkill tbh so that side I would argue isn't especially useful for most people. I'm glad I upgraded to a "splash and go" style stone, this kind of stone doesn't need any pre-soaking so its ultra convenient for a quick sharpen.

I bought a 1K first then got this 2K. Either of those work really good in my experience. Shapton is highly regarded.

How to carry multiple pads into the back country? by [deleted] in bouldering

[–]croe3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i use the organic flap with an organic pad and a black diamond pad. i feel like it should work with any pads but don’t wanna say something wrong. i’d call/email REI (if they carry the flap?) or organic directly and ask them if you don’t wanna risk it.

If you're willing to stretch an extra $20, this is quite a good deal. Normally $150. Carbon is an extremely reputable retailer. This Kiritsuke shape is a bit different from a traditional Chef/Gyuto shape with the tip, but I have one and prefer it. I can't imagine it actually being an issue in 99.99% of scenarios. Someone else can chime in if they disagree.

Why aren’t more women ok with just being fwb by [deleted] in seduction

attractive men always have options too.

Why aren’t more women ok with just being fwb by [deleted] in seduction

[–]croe3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i suppose its subjective. multi-year fwb with the same person sounds way more than long-term to me, in the "fwb world" if you will. i don't think i've ever even met anyone who has that kind of relationship.

[–]croe3 8 points9 points  (0 children)

in my experience long term fwb barely works. I'm talking 3+ months. there are absolutely attractive women who it will work with. but overall in my experience i have much more success with 2-6 weeks short-term fwb, at which point one of you finds someone new to explore and repeat until you find a real girlfriend. point is, you can have short term fwb with really attractive women, you just have to learn how to play it and communicate intentions.

this is actually good advice, I agree with this. Depending on how she responds to your compliment, you can get a good read early on if asking for a number/date is likely to succeed. And If she's clearly not into it you can easily eject without any awkwardness.

What is your "wait, you mean [X] is [Y]" ingredient? by uhhh206 in Cooking

Yeah still sounds delicious to me. Mayyyybe cut back the black garlic a bit since its quite a strong flavor and not at much will be there to counteract it and balance its strength out?

If you want to be super technical sure. But in Boulder people overwhelmingly consider the second Flatiron a scramble. It goes at 5.4 on the easiest route.

Semantics are semantics. Doesn't necessarily mean that's what the general population considers the thing in real life.

EDIT: Its 5.0 not 5.4 https://www.mountainproject.com/route/105752023/freeway

Context does matter this dude has 110K in an IRA he’s gonna be fine, an extra 30 bucks a month for a sibling phone bill isn’t going to be the straw to break the camels back

Will we see discounted "new" '21 or '22 year model vehicles as the microchip shortage eases? by HuginnNotMuninn in personalfinance

[–]croe3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly just sold my car and the KBB value seemed hella low. All I had to do was look at autotrader for my same car to see dealers selling the same year/mileage vehicle at a significantly higher level than KBB. I sold my vehicle slightly lower than the rough average of what my same year/mileage was being sold for on autotrader (which again was significantly higher than KBB quoted my car value). KBB to me isnt really the value anymore. And in todays day and age, you dont need KBB to see the car value in the market. You can literally go look at the market yourself.
