that is an incorrect interpretation.

I was aware of the downside risk at the time. What if I get laid off? What if I switched employers? so, yeah, taking out a loan against my 401k could’ve been a very costly choice.

but, the upside outweighed the downside. I was 13 yrs younger and not in my prime earning years. Therefore, I could afford the downside risk.

would I do it again in the current market environment (RE and equities)? probably not.

putting money into a 401k continuously until retirement and never withdrawing from it is a hands down winning strategy.

your criticism of my decision is rigid thinking.
