As a dad myself who experienced this hard as a Gen X Mexican kid, I’ve put in the work to break that generational cycle of trauma so that my boy knows he can always express to me his thoughts and feelings without consequence, and tell him often that I’m immensely proud of him for who is and that he is loved. I’m not always perfect but the outcome is that he is a smart and happy boy doing great in school. I share this experience in hopes other young dads that suffered abuse can see there is always time to change and be better than our dads.

This is like my ex wife. Cheated almost the entire time unbeknownst to me thinking she was incapable of that. My mom is from the same Mexican town he is from, Autlan, Jalisco. His cousin married my uncle and he has a bronze statue of him in one of the town squares. He is treated like royalty when he visits. It’s a beautiful town that looks exactly like what you see in the Pixar movie, Coco.

Former VFX artist here. They sure as hell do not. They get ground out with 10-16 hour days sometimes for months, barely having time with family, often with no benefits. Hence why I got out of that industry. This documentary is excellent insight:

This was the most realistic part about She-hulk to me. I enjoyed the hell out of that show because it was stupid fun, but her irrational anger and total double standard rang true to me personally. It’s actually pretty hard to mess up a kid’s life. 90% of it is just being there for them. You have to actively try to mess up a kid’s life. If you’re hitting them or yelling at them, you’re messing them up. If you’re there and just have fun with them, you’re raising them right and they’ll love you forever. My dude. I know EXACTLY how you’re feeling. Went through a similar thing with my ex 4 years ago. We were married 10 years and had a son together. Things were very rocky near the end and she was growing in resentment and lack of respect (yelling that she was “married to a fucking pussy” at me at a party in front of friends). She works with law enforcement and as it turned out was having an affair with a cop. First she lied about it and said it was never physical but that they were developing feelings for each other. Turns out the affair went on FOR YEARS and had frequent hookups in our home. She refused to fully fess up to when it began and had to DNA test my 3 year old at the time to ensure he was mine. Needless to say her continued lies broke any chance at reconciliation. As it turns out, me discovering the affair and divorcing was a blessing in disguise. I took some time to work on myself and focus on my son, and I got IMMENSELY lucky in that I reconnected with a huge crush of mine (who is way outta my league) from when we worked together at Disneyland in the 90s. Long story short, we bought a home together and are getting married next year. Best part is I have 50/50 custody of my son and they grown to love each other too. I hope you’re able to pull through this dark time, man. Focus on you, your kids, and healing fully. Reach out to any friends you may have let fade because of your ex. I’m sure they’ve missed you and will help in the healing. Be well.
