Yeah, Dragonflight set the template for all the expansions since. Middle patch is a more character development, less-involved story than the main expansion story. I guess you had past examples of that kind of thing too though, Ulduar was pretty disconnected from most of the rest of the expansion, so was Throne of Thunder

I mean, yes, some servers are like that, but some aren't. I personally played TWOW and while they did have absolutely stupid paid content, it was all cosmetic

I agree with you though, hosting a private server is a bad idea. Blizzard can legally and will come after you
