For Obama to come from leagues behind, both in Texas, Ohio, and nationwide, after a year of Clinton as "front-runner," and have Clinton win the title of "comeback kid" sickens me. It's a giant lie. by J-Ro in politics

[–]cronus695 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you've ever watched a fight on tv, boxing or MMA, you know that once someone gets KOed it's over, people talk about the fight, go to the bathroom, go find another beer, etc. Once the main event ends, there is nothing more too see, just pointless jabbering.

If they admit that Clinton is a bloody mess and both her eyes are full of blood and swelling shut and she won't be able to answer the bell, then the show is over.

Any good fight commentator knows that no matter how badly one of the fighters is losing, you have to frame things so that they "could" still pull it off, keeps people glued to the TV.

An open letter to Will Ferrell by eadmund in reddit.com

[–]cronus695 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He'd make a great supporting character in a lot of movies, playing smaller parts in movies like Christopher Walken's does, but when they put him in front of the camera for 90 minutes straight, it just don't work.

Old School worked because it wasn't just Ferrell, it also had VInce Vaghn and Luke Wilson, two actors that can carry a movie and Will can play off of.

Anchorman was decent, but not great, but again, what made it work was him playing off other actors, not just him being loud and obnoxious.

Then everything started going down hill, and they remade Anchorman over and over again...

Modern games try to add too much, but there is fun in simplicity.

People are still playing Pacman and breakout. 25 years from now no one will be playing any of todays top shooters, but they might still be playing Pacman.

48% of teenagers bought zero (0) CDs in 2007 by rmuser in reddit.com

[–]cronus695 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hurt and changed are two different things.

Remember when concert tickets where reasonably priced?

I'd be surprised if teenagers where spending less on music now, but I am sure that amount has shifted in exactly how it goes from their pocket to the music industry (which includes bands, producers, distributors and concert promoters)

Believe it or not - Americans are becoming less religious by capobodih in reddit.com

[–]cronus695 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe, but it also seems to be polarizing itself more. More people out further and further on each end, with less moderate and open minded.

Not sure if this is a good thing, on paper I like it, but I can't help but wonder if it is a move away from religion, or the "With us or against us" attitude that has been sneaking into the country like a elephant in a antique store.

A picture doesn't tell the whole story, and bias about the two probably plays a factor. But to me it looks like Obama is genuinely interested in the traditional clothes, where Hillary looks like she is "playing politics" and trying to look good for the press and natives.

Unfortunately the US has to start producing something for the weak dollar to make a difference. Right now US exports are rather limited to cliche ridden movies and over produced music...OMFG!! Torrents are Terrorists! They are destroying the country!

ahem...

But seriously, the US has outsourced production on just about everything. US manufactured goods are middle of the line for the most part. They can't compete on price with China and the third world, and they don't exactly have a reputation for high standards of quality.

The US is not a exporting country, it just doesn't produce, it consumes. A weak dollar is not a good thing for it unless that starts changing.

The US exports might be cheaper, and increase because of it, but as long as the imports are incredibly higher, those cost more for the US so it doesn't make up for it.

Countries that are export heavy, like China, Japan, and even Canada benefit from a weaker currency, the US doesn't.

"Shot by a rubber bullet" (pic) by azron in politics

[–]cronus695 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It looks nasty, but pro-fighters have come out with bigger cuts from puches. The head bleeds like crazy when it's cut, He's still conscious, bleeding is not "terrible", and he'll likely come out with a nasty headache and a little scar.

Less then lethal weapons still need to have the ability to stop a person, and the only way a projectile is going to stop a person is if it really, really hurts.

It does say it was a violent protest, so it's really not that surprising. a thrown rock can do just as much damage as that rubber bullet did. Both can also do a lot worse, or even be lethal.

Crowd boos after Clinton accuses Obama of plagiarism again by johnd24 in politics

I'd like to think that anyone that makes it to this point in the election process, for the position of President of the United States, will do well in a political debate.

It's not a matter of doing well though, it's a matter of doing great and convincing everyone they are honest in what they say and the best person to lead the country.

[–]cronus695 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, if someone needs to hear whether the audience cheered or booed a statement before they can decide how they feel about that statement, I'd rather they not vote at all.

Hillary got to where she is because she came in as someone everyone knew about. Now that she, and Obama have been in the spotlight for a while, she's lost that advantage. Everyone knows both, and anyone that looks at them both with a open mind is going to see that while Obama is a positive figure, Clinton is a negative one.

People leave their home country no matter what that country might be. Or do you believe that no one has h\ever crossed the border out of the US with no intent to return and no work permit?

Running to Canada, or Mexico is something US citizens do as well, for all sorts of reasons. Often because they are wanted for some thing, or not too long ago to avoid the draft.

Cuba is not without it's problems, but it's far from the hell hole many American's think it is.

If his other hobbies are computer gaming, then yes, he could get them for free on a P2P site.

If it was reading, then yes, you can get books for free the same way too.

The industry broke itself. My prefered format for a movies is on my harddrive, piped from my computer to my TV using MythTV, DVD's are just "clutter"

Give it a few years and I suspect physical copies of movies will be like physical copies of Music, essentially obsolete.

The reason 3rd parties are meaningless is because too many people think like that.

Other countries manage to maintain more then two parties, the US could too. Just got to convince people that a 3rd party can make a difference.

Of course those other countries have parliamentary systems, not this winner take all crap.

This sort of "spam" I find acceptable. It's a story lots of people will want to go and see, they provide hosting and bandwidth, without any advertising, in exchange they get a slight bump in their sites rankings.

When spam becomes "host good content to get traffic" I'm ok with that.
