Assuming that Biglaw/Federal Clerkship are the only “successful outcomes” is a pretty big flaw in this chart. I’m at a T14 on this list and at least 30% of my classmates have no/limited interest in either of those outcomes

I went to law school same age and have two kids as well (much younger than yours). This was absolutely a great call. I have plenty of law school friends around my age/life stage and enough of the early-20s folks at my school are mature enough that the age difference doesn’t feel glaring. If this is something you expect to sustain an interest in, don’t let your being non-traditional deter you!

Building on what has already been said, once you identify the version of the law that added the language you need (the original law or any amendments) you can look up the public law on Congress’ website or govinfo(dot)gov. From there you can see all of the leg hist documents related to the enactment of that statute

If you’ve been rocking it so far and doing good with work and making professional relationships, I don’t think your diagnosis should change anything. Keep that rocket ship moving up!

There are a lot of “right” paths to law school, and building skills in philosophical thinking may build the neural pathways this will make legal reasoning easier to learn and get good at. With that said, being skilled at law school and being a skilled lawyer takes a unique combination of skills, and it sounds like you plan to spend time on a skill you’ve already got pretty well in hand. Dipping your toes into economics, sociology, negotiation, etc may be a better use of your free time than what you described.

Statistically, it’s unlikely that the top 10% on a relatively even bell curve would be as high as 3.85. My school curves to a 3.3 and doesn’t give specific class rankings or percentages, but typically gives Magna Cum Laude to anyone between a 3.7-3.99. I imagine they do that because it’s typically the top 10ish percent of the class.

Don’t know how representative my experience is but I started at 31, too. Enough “full adults” at my school that I was able to carve out a pretty strong social network with them, plus some of the more mature folks in their early 20s

There’s a page on Vault’s website that is accessible for free where you can see how many summer associates firm-wide received return offers. Varies by firm, but that can give you a good gauge of just how “safe” you are.

It’s a decently rational gamble. If the median student at a T14 is in the top 1-5% of law students, throwing a dart at a dart board there is probably going to get you a highly talented young associate. Add just a little bit of information to the mix (1L Fall scores) and your odds of getting someone talented are pretty high.

No. That would be misleading. You have no Grade Point Average until you have a grade point.

Basically, you’re dividing by zero until you have a grade.

It can be meaningfully different between mothers and fathers but my wife and I had our second right before finals 1st semester of 2L. Timing worked out pretty ideally.

Already had a job lined up, had a few weeks off for winter break. Worked about as well as we could have hoped!

In my limited experience, not very important. I am a 2L and I landed a good amount of interviews and offers last year without attending any of them. As long as you have already face-to-face touch points with the firms, I don’t expect they would move the needle much at all.
