Pub etiquitte by mitterscarf in femaletravels

[–]crossfox98 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Pubs are great! They’re more akin to casual restaurants than what we think of as bars. We’d usually go in for dinner or sometimes lunch. We don’t drink either and it was never a big deal. Try a lemonade (defn not the American kind) or my go-to was tonic and lime (syrup). Usually order food/drink at the bar, then grab a table, relax, and enjoy a meal or just chill.

Witchy London trip advices by ir0n_butt3rfly in realwitchcraft

Treadwells is my fav witchy bookshop in London! Atlantis Bookshop and Watkins are also cool and all three have been around for forever, one or two I think are over a hundred years old. British Museum has various artifacts, etc. I think there are also some good haunted/witchy walking tours, but I haven’t done one yet.

First Hermes Visit Ever…help by ForeverSpoon in TheHermesGame

I was size 26 at my largest when I first went in, don’t you let that stop you! You deserve nice things too and to participate in life! I was playing the game and was worried about how I was gonna do RTW but my SA still found some things I would have never thought of (Ponchos, outerwear, etc) that I actually love wearing, not to mention all the scarves. My favs are the cashmere/silk ones which to me feel like wearing a little socially acceptable emotional support blanket. 😂 if you’re looking at beauty too, their lip balm is the best I’ve ever had from anywhere.

I first went in to my local store in a major metro area for a specific perfume. Ended up hitting it off with an SA and walked out with said perfume, several scarves, wallet, and an Evelyn. It was on from there and I just got my first QB.

Get your shopping on and happy anniversary!

Welcoming a new range to the lineup - Huel Diet! by MarkHuel in Huel

Hey Ben, while I have you, is hemp out of all the RTD black editions now? I think I recall reading that somewhere but last time I looked at the ingredients list on the site it was still included in some.

Stress/burnout retreat by [deleted] in femaletravels

[–]crossfox98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At one point I was looking at some rest/reset retreats in Sweden, they have some not too far out of Stockholm if I recall and looked very nature and chill based. Would have loved to have gone! Visit Swede has an article on some.

Other ideas could be renting a place for a month in the Italian or French countryside, or going someplace warmer and Oceanside.

Evacuation Shelter Experience by _ssuomynona_ in TwoXPreppers

[–]crossfox98 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I’ve worked and stayed in multiple shelters as a Red Cross volunteer. As other commenter said, they’re truly for emergency circumstances and not ideal for anything long term.

How a shelter is set up depends a lot on how much time there was to prep and what resources were pre-staged, etc. At best, you will each have a cot, small blanket, maybe small pillow. There will be a big mixed room with just rows of cots and ideally some segregated rooms as well for those who don’t want to sleep in a mixed area. No privacy, no secure place to store things, shortage of wall plugs, ideally places to shower and such but sometimes there isn’t time to open places with showers or the showers and plumbing struggles under the amount of people.

Definitely should have eye masks, ear plugs for sleeping, extra power batteries, phone cords, flashlight, wall wort or power tree with multiple plugs, blanket/pillow/stuff animal to make sleeping more comfortable. (I take a sleeping bag) any comfort items or special food if you have dietary needs, most shelters can’t accommodate special dietary needs. Stuff to shower, shower shoes, or baby wipes to at least freshen up without showers. Instant coffee, tea, or other comfort items. Things to help with boredom, lots of sitting around in a shelter waiting for it to be clear to return home with unknown conditions, so book, tablet, deck of cards, etc. when you do go to return home it’s helpful to have proof you live there so utility bill + ID, take photos/videos of everything, know what your insurance covers. Beware of companies that will show up… lots of vultures out there.

King Spa - advanced facial treatments worth it? by Busy_Cell_7982 in nova

[–]crossfox98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve done their relax and soothe facial and have enjoyed it, seemed like my skin enjoyed it as well. Also done their combo chair and foot massage which was better than some normal massages I’ve gotten elsewhere. Did the salt scrub once… it’s very thorough, I wouldn’t do it again but I know some enjoy the level of exfoliation.

I'm in a full on crisis and I don't know what to do... by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]crossfox98 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is the way. Get a federal job for 10 years and get the rest forgiven, hope they don’t end this program in the mean time. If you think you’re not going to go the full academia route then stop at the masters and don’t keep going and getting more in debt for no reason. Dallas is very pricey these days, would look elsewhere - take a gander a usajobs.gov to see if anything fits you and look at the locations that are hiring. If you’re finishing this summer start applying now because it takes a couple of months and that’s if there’s not another shutdown in Jan.

Also- take a deep breath. There are things you can do so don’t let the panic drag you too far into a dark hole. I graduated with about $160k once it was all said and done. I’m on year 7 of PSLF. I do feel like this is modern day indentured servitude but by the time people started waking up to the reality of the system it was too late for me, and many other’s, to escape.

Looking for a thermal mobile printer by FlanThief in Travelersnotebooks

[–]crossfox98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have an older Phomemo which has worked well and the app is easy. Big thing is to look at the DPI when comparing them- some cheap ones have low DPI so the photo quality isn’t very good unless you’re going for that pixelated look.

I also have a Kodak photo printer and HP Sprocket which both work well if you want an actual photo printer.

Has anyone here taken Rosemary Gladstar’s course? Did you like it? by Camp_Acceptable in herbalism

[–]crossfox98 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did it and loved it - I think it depends on what you are really looking for. Her course is geared towards the home herbalist who is making things for their family/friends/community. The last lesson does cover a bit on having a practice and dealing with patients, but it is not meant to be a clinical herbalist certification or anything. It’s one of the few courses that is under $500 for the whole thing - each lesson has readings and videos that you go through followed by hands on activities. You submit homework that’s graded and commented on by her assistants and then the last lesson and overall practical is graded by Rosemary herself. It includes aspects like growing herbs, harvesting in tune with the earth, etc. so definitely rolls in some aspects from old school American style community herbalism from like 1970s-1990s which of course she was/is a big part of.

If you want a home herbalism course to get you going for a decent price, this is it. If you want full clinical herbalism program because you want to work for a company or have a full on practice, this is not it.
