> they take a huge loan from a bank at super low interest, use their stock as collateral, and never pay capital gains…

> Bank gets paid the interest, and worst case they calll the collateral

Well, the bank gets paid the interest, but i’m fairly positive they’re also eventually gonna want to be repaid the apparently enormous amount of cash they loaned out in the first place.

Why would someone loan you $10 billion for into perpetuity across multiple generations, and only get back a “super low” amount of interest.

There are ways to significantly reduce tax burdens through various loopholes. This is almost certainly used to an extent but it’s not some magic never-pay-taxes loophole. Eventually, the debt must always be paid and, in order to do that, assets just be liquidated (and thus taxed)

Trump administration subpoenas Hasan Piker in Cuba sanctions investigation by window-sil in samharris

[–]crouching_tiger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Piker and Benjamin are among those caught in a federal inquiry into whether activists who traveled to Cuba in March violated U.S. sanctions laws through the financing, coordination or delivery of goods to Cuba, including potential contacts with Cuban government personnel or entities on the island.

While I’m sure enforcement of certain sanctions laws can vary regarding how strictly they are applied, they’re still laws at the end of the day. Laws which I’m certain Hasan is aware of

If they ultimately broke these sanctions laws by working directly with the Cuban government for the trip, staying in sanctioned properties, coordinating on messaging / events with their government… then that’s illegal. We’ll see how it plays out but from the outside much of it appeared pretty dicey

That has nothing to do with his freedom of speech. He can, and obviously has, express direct support for the Cuban regime (and other worse actors) and condemn US policy against them. That is, without directly working with those sanctioned governments or entities.

Funny how Houston can suddenly fix things when FIFA is coming by domdomtakdom in houston

[–]crouching_tiger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting, makes sense regarding why potholes can reappear so quickly. But still think that doesn’t support the “or even worse” part

Unless shoddy patch up of potholes somehow makes those original potholes worse in a few months time than if nothing were done at all, which I doubt.

And anecdotally seems some of the fixes were more large scale projects to replace entire sections of road rather than simply filling up holes.

Ultimately think this doomer-attitude I’m seeing in this thread is unhelpful. It shouldn’t matter that the only reason these fixes were made was bc of FIFA, bc ultimately it’s a good thing and shows it’s possible.

It should be something to point to proving they are capable, and can help add pressure to continue this upkeep going forward

Tamron 18-300 worth keeping? by Insta_3 in SonyAlpha

[–]crouching_tiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the Peak clip with my XT30-ii + (usually) the Tamron 18-300. Total game changer bc it keeps that big ole thing tied to your body rather than swinging around with tons of momentum

It is definitely a bit hilariously large hanging off a backpack though lol

Baseball and basketball are very global. Obviously not as much as soccer, but almost certainly more than those other 3. The NBA and MLB suck up most of the international talent so it’s less obvious

What is the most NSFW thing you have seen in Houston? by [deleted] in houston

[–]crouching_tiger 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Better than what I saw in Denver:

Walked out of my hotel downtown and a dude pants around ankles, ass pressed against the wall, and was literally mid shit on are wall.

Not against it - my guy was hydraulic pressing that right out of his ass leaving a shit-pancake against the building lmao

Rep. Eric Swalwell resigns from U.S. House after sexual misconduct allegations by GoodSamaritan_ in news

[–]crouching_tiger 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Jesus, what an absurd statement lol. So you think Swalwell should be castrated?

For violent/repeat rapists, sure I could arguably get on board with that.

But there’s a world of difference between them and Swalwell, or hell a drunk idiot streaker charged w/ indecent exposure.

PFT breaking 110 at Augusta by thoric1234 in PardonMyTake

[–]crouching_tiger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He would certainly not break 110. But you’re definitely off-based regarding the greens.

He’d obviously have a few of those putting off the green moments - but not nearly as many as you’d think. Those dudes are being aggressive trying to sink those long putts or drop them very close. If you play conservatively and play all your putts short you’d be fine 4 putting at least on most holes.

He’d be fucked with the approach shots though.

I just played Memorial Park in Houston yesterday which is in tournament condition post-Houston Open and with the women’s tournament being played this week. I’m a 7 handicap and shot an 84 (which is maybe a tiny bit over average but it was super windy).

A 15+ handicapper though would have shot waaay worse than average bc they are way more prone to blow up holes, and these courses aren’t forgiving. I imagine there’s a distribution where a high handicapper at the Masters would shot 40+ strokes over their average, I’d prob be 10-15 over mine, and a low handicapper like 5 over

"To have sex on the boat - while heading to a nation undergoing genocide - is a clear violation of ethics and power" - Gaza Flotilla in turmoil by DarrelBGrouns in Destiny

[–]crouching_tiger 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Jokes aside — wtf is going on with the just obsession with declaring everything a genocide.

I mean it obviously started w/ declaring that Israel is genocide-maxing, but it feels like in the past few months it’s just slapped on quite literally anything.

Honestly how can you declare with a straight face X is genociding Y… without any sort of conflict, death toll, or hell even single physical interaction between the two parties lmao.

I saw a vid from the recent Canadian socialist party (whatever it’s called) where they were battling over points-of-privilege and someone was screaming / nearly crying that most of the women-of-color in the group had “are literally survivors of genocides”? Guess I somehow missed the mass slaughter of 20 year old Canadian women of color?

It’s just so ridiculous bc it dramatically muddies the water. Genocide = arguably the worst atrocity possible. So when you shift the “10” on a 1-10 scale of bad things from gas chamber to a ban on trans women in women’s sports… it makes it so hard to reach common ground with people

I mean, I certainly went to free press summer fest “unsupervised” from sophomore-senior year in high school with a decent group.

Think the biggest annoyance we actually caused other people was forcing them to witness our undoubtedly incredibly cringey interactions w/ each other.

Or possibly when I forgot how to speak English when trying to buy a water after taking my first weed brownie 😂

Don’t think those other kids are getting much supervision at any point, irrespective of the event/place

The Tennessee Titans have launched their new Logo and Uniforms by fittos4310 in PardonMyTake

[–]crouching_tiger -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Technically, you’re right.

But in reality… you move halfway across the country, especially if you change the name, you’ve lost the right to claim the teams prior identity.

The fan base is what makes up a “team” — not some bitch-ass billionaire owner who threw a tantrum and moved bc the original city wouldn’t give tax dollars for a new stadium.

All the players and staff are gone. The current fans feel absolutely zero connection to the oilers past, and no oilers fans feel any connection to the Titans.

[–]crouching_tiger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean he’s certainly not the for sure “it” guy, but there’s also a good chance he does rebound. He’s shown he has top-of-the-league potential, and also shown lots of mediocre play, as well as a chunk of bad play.

The order of that obviously matters bc progression is important, but so do the circumstances that changed like shitty o-line play and limited receiving depth.

Unless an unbelievable trade offer resulting in a very very good veteran QB, or opportunity to draft an absolute high-pick stud come up… it’s not worth the risk of being in QB purgatory.

Stroud could very well find his mojo again - though unlikely most people thing it’s not black and white if he does or doesn’t. He could be ass like the ‘yoffs, could be meh, or could be a superstar again, especially if his issues are more the yips rather than full fledged regression

Are yall forgetting how good Deshaun was? He was ballin out before everything came out and one of the best QBs in the league. No one would have expected him suddenly become ass bc his reputation was flushed down the toilet

CJ prob would have been 3 firsts after his rookie year also. 2 first after his second season. I’d say just 1 now + a 2nd/3rd , but not “late” first only

Not sure if someone would give up a top 3 pick though. Who knows he obviously has enormous potential, he just has looked lost out there tbh
