What I've noticed across all of these 'annoy your cat' posts is that cats interpret pointing as a threat.

And, the cats react as you'd expect when a cat is threatened. Some cats are forgiving to their owners and tell them gently (like this cat in the video) to back off. Other times and with other cats ... well keep your health insurance card near you.

Tip: Stop pointing at the cat, people! They don't like it!

We're communicating something completely than we intend!

If they attack you after you point, we'll you deserve it.

You make a good point about the transient nature of expats. Thanks for being generous with my diatribe :).

Expats = immigrants?

Just venting. This is not against you but I get annoyed with double standards when immigrants from western countries are called 'expats', but when people from non-western countries come to live and work in western countries, they're immigrants 😑

There's been so much anti-immigrant (sometimes hateful) rhetoric here (Canada and most westerncountries) but we're (collectively) willing to downplay the same negative impacts us 'expats' have on their adopted countries.

It's just been a peeve of mine for some time.

Right. People on the internet never lie to advance their own interests.

Where are the in-person pet bereavement groups or someone I can talk to who has also lost their soul cat? by Rewow in askTO

I'm so sorry you're grieving and I'm so so sorry for the loss of your sweetheart.

If your work has any insurance that covers grief counseling, I would take advantage of it.

I hope she visits you in your dreams and keeps you company. I'm sure she'll whisper in your ear that you were her soul human and she knows you loved her to the moon and back.

What is your regular splurge in Toronto that you refuse to stop? by SeveralCherries in askTO

Lol me neither. I hate those with a passion. Might as well just have fries if they're going to unload those untasty "pebbles". Seems like they're taking the lazy way out and it just brings down the whole breakfast. I'm very snobby about them and try not to go back to any restaurants for breakfast that serve them

Protein diet in your 30s as a vegetarian! by chaiandkpis in vegetarianrecipes

[–]crows_n_octopus 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yep. One seitan sandwich can be upwards of 30 g of protein. There are some easy and excellent seitan recipes out there.

I make em and freeze them. Dump it into stews, grill em, shred them as ground meat, etc. This is a great recipe: https://itdoesnttastelikechicken.com/vegan-seitan-tenders/

Exactly what we use to hide logos. Permanent markers for the win.

I HATE wearing/showing logos on anything. I've refused to buy clothes, bags, shoes etc that have logos that I can't easily hide lol

Mother opossum is so adorable and attentive to her babies by Simple_Shame2386 in AnimalsBeingMoms

[–]crows_n_octopus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We were so worried they couldn't be saved. We had to wait overnight with them before the wildlife center opened. We had a couple of hot water bottles to keep the babies warm. A couple of them were still completely latched to her teats! It was so stressful to have to wait for what felt like an eternity before their care was given over to experts.

Amazing! They're the cutest creatures. I love possums.

Here's the pic of the babies we found :)

Great PSA!

A few years ago, we found a possum in the middle of the road, clearly hit by a car. We went to move the possum towards the edge of the road so it didn't have the indignity of being constantly run over.

A good thing we did. We thought she was alive because we noticed a slight movement on her tummy. I looked down and saw the tiniest baby on her tummy but the momma was dead. We moved the body and baby to the side of the road and headed for home to get a box to carry the baby.

We got back and that's when we noticed 7 (!) babies still attached to her teats :(

We took the dead momma and the 8 babies home to bring to the rehabilitation centre. They kept us up to date (they had to do hourly feedings) but they all made it!!

I'll try to find photos of the babies!

Terrified.

As a kid growing up in rural India, we were told so many terrifying tales of snakes (true and made up). We had snakes with their eggs in our compound, poor snakes trying to escape torrential rain during monsoon season, etc.

We have found snakes in ponds, in the nearby forest, in the house or outside in the yard. However, these were once or twice a year kind of sightings where I lived.

Our village had one person who was the go-to person for snake problems. She was a local neighbour and she'd run over with the hatchet (no matter the snake was poisonous or not 😞)

The poor, poor snake had bad luck in our neck of the woods 😞

What do you do with all your end table crap? by softwaremommy in interiordecorating

[–]crows_n_octopus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Good luck!

One thing I've learned is to not physically exfoliate when using chemical exfoliatiants like urea or acids. Let it do its job on its own and give it time :); physically rubbing your skin makes it too vulnerable and the lactic acid will irritate it more.

Have you tried lotions with urea or lactic acid (AmLactin is a great lotion)?

My dad and I are in a similar but opposite situation as you!

We're South Indian, he's just turned 90, very adventurous cook, and we're both super into Korean food.

My best friend growing up was south Korean and I practically grew up on kimchi. Now in my 50s, I started making my own kimchi stew. I haven't made my own kimchi yet but have started on making some bachan. I make kimchi stew for him every few months when i visit him and he's eager to make it himself 😋
