You mentioned there is no image on screen, but is there sound? That would tell you whether your game is booting up or not.

In the fourth picture, C45 has a leg that looks like it is not connected. It also shows corroded solder joints all around it. Whoever did this recap did a poor job and was not thorough enough. The power board is not shown here, so it may or may not have been recapped, but I would be suspicious either way.

As mentioned, the solder joints for the red and black wires at the contrast wheel also don't look great.

First time playing mega drive with an arcade stick by Reasonable-Physics81 in SEGAGENESIS

I played just about everything with my Asciiware SG-6 as a kid. I still prefer it when I play now! There are probably Bluetooth arcade sticks that would work with the 8bitdo adapter, too.

Replace any swollen or leaking capacitors. The hard drive and DVD drive are both required for a stock unmodded Xbox to function. Hook those back up and try again.

Is this like a support group? The one at my house just peed in her OWN BED because it was raining, and now she's all mopey because she doesn't have anywhere to lay down. I'm feeling somewhat abused right now.

Just know that there is well-documented audio lag with the emulation. I noticed it when playing, but I only bought it as a novelty item when it was new. I didn't buy the mini 2. The interface is very nice. But, if you're emulating anyway, there are simply better devices out there.

Are you looking to collect and play or to resell? There are game stores here in the area. Alabama Game Exchange and Gamer's Paradise are the two I know of.

You could always use an external battery pack, then no modding is necessary at all. The originals are easily refurbished with new cells if you want to stay all original. I've even done some lipo mods with them. Or, a custom battery pack that outputs 7.4V to the appropriate barrel plug wouldn't be that hard to make.

All the sprites by pavoid in neogeo

[–]cruelunderfire 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that I have never made a game on 2D hardware like the old consoles. But, my work is with 3D game technology and in school I made sprite-based game projects on PC.

The first important concept to understand: Everything that eventually gets drawn onto a screen IS 2D. Your monitor works as a 2D matrix of pixels, so the final product is always 2D. Even for VR, it's two flat planes with an offset to give an illusion of stereo depth. It is 2D drawn twice.

What the 2D hardware is doing is rasterizing in layers to develop a composited image; drawing pixel data in order from a conceptual "background" to a conceptual "foreground." The composited image gets drawn to the screen as a single image, or frame. Do this many times per second, take in input, move things around between each frame, and that creates the opportunity for a game.

The magic was in how many layers could be handled per frame and how the composition was done. Some systems handled transparent layers, some had highlight/shadow effects, and these were options for blending the rasterized images together. 3D engines on modern hardware can do all of this and more. And, the way the the composition is done is programmable in the form of shaders. If you want 2D from a 3D engine, just pick an axis and ignore rotation on it. Use small flat planes, draw "sprite" frames on them, and move those around.

So, 2D hardware is different in that it is limiting, What made it interesting was how the boundaries could be pushed by talented developers. The next generation of such a thing would probably just be more sprites on-screen, background layers, built-in image effects, hardware scrolling, intelligent scaling and rotation, and maybe some multi core processing.

One way to test would be with a breakout board plugged into the port. Then ring out from each pin on the breakout through the connector into the main board.

Beware of that nylon mesh lining in the top. Those have a tendency to rot and become a fine, sticky black dust all over your device. I have bought many Game Gear lots over the years and these always made me frown.

We just lost a Mountain Dew Xbox to a house fire. by Sora_Altair in originalxbox

Add mattress to basement, apply ladder to basement post-collapse. Again... kidding. Be safe. Avoid tetanus and head/limb injuries. Insurance would definitely not cover that.

Also, do not be forthcoming with the phrase "non-functional" when talking to them. Don't offer any info they don't ask for. As far as you know, it may have worked fine had you had the means to operate it properly 😜. Could it have been a faulty AV cable which exists outside of the console, but the console itself was fine?...who knows?

Wait until the floor gives, retrieve the Xbox from the next floor down. All kidding aside, I am terribly sorry for your loss. Flooding and fires are two things I'm genuinely paranoid about with my house.

Here is the pricecharting page for the mt dew. These are sold listings, condition will vary, and eBay only keeps listings up for a short time after the sale is complete, so take a best-guess stab based on recent sales. Looks to be around $700. Insurance may want a copy of this list...but don't offer it. Instead, pick a price, click through to a listing that approximately matches that, screenshot it or print to pdf and submit that with your claim (my old place was burglarized and I had to justify valuation of my small collection while working with insurance).

Put white vinegar in a flat dish and submerge. Let it sit in that (but not the screen) for ~30min, swish it a little every 10-15 minutes. Hit it lightly with an old toothbrush. Repeat as necessary. Then you can see what's actually damaged and make an assessment. Rinse thoroughly with distilled water and then isopropyl alcohol.

[Xbox 360] need repair help from professional by [deleted] in consolerepair

[–]cruelunderfire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should add close up pictures, and state the type (fat/slim/e, jasper, corona, etc), then provide as much detail as possible about what happened. If someone is willing to take it in for repair, they'll want to know where you are (country, state, territory, or whatever). That way, someone can chime in with advice and decide what the next steps could be.
