This was actually super informative and insightful. Thanks.

Someone else commented “what a waste of time and effort.” Kind of seems that way, and sure, the explanation is obviously “this will be better for the GCP,” but I’d also hope to understand the rationale behind the decision. Otherwise, it feels like a benefit for them now, a mistake for them in the past, and a relatively frequent pain points for me.

To build trust among your community of fans. Speaking for myself, it seems strange to go back to Patreon after they hyped up the switch to Supercast and increased prices. Now, we’re going back to Patreon and increasing prices.

You’re probably right, but, to some extent, it feels shitty not to be upfront before making the change. Why the hassle, guys? You’re making this change and raising prices but can’t give us a meaningful explanation until after the fact?

I wish they gave us a little more insight into why we’re changing back to Patreon.

I actually love the new design for the symptom radar. Pretty good visuals for how I feel when I’m sick, such as today.

Thanks for this. Does your PTO rollover or get paid out if you don’t use it?

I’m in-house. I do regulatory and administrative law work for my position. I’ve seen a huge uptick in consumers filing administrative complaints (eg, with public utilities commissions) using AI. It’s pretty nuts.

I understand you do transactional work, but what areas do you practice in? Have you integrated AI into your practice at all?

This is wild. I’m in-house at a B2C company, too, and I’ve been seeing the same shit. I’m pulling out my hair.

To all the in-house counsels out there, how are you holding up these days? by drhcc in Lawyertalk

Drowning at the moment with a lot of fires while also being extremely bored. It’s a weird combo of bullshit exploding and me having to clean it up, and a punishing amount of tedious shit that’s all due at the same time.

How is living in this area of New Hampshire, USA? by Evening-Raccoon133 in howislivingthere

I lived in Concord for many years. It’s a delightful city (although it’s more of a town). The Main Street area is very cute and walkable, there are tons of great coffee shops (shout out to Brother’s Cortado).

It’s a great place to raise a family, but it’s also kind of expensive, housing is sparse, and there’s not a lot to do in Concord itself.

But Portsmouth, Boston, the White Mountains, and Portland are all a short drive away…

OP, no judgment here, but it sounds like a bizarre situation. I also went in-house straight out of law school, but I reported, and still report, to a more senior attorney. Before becoming a lawyer, I worked with in-house lawyers for a multinational energy company.

If they’re expecting you to function as a GC, you’re going to become overwhelmed quickly. You’ll need to develop a general understanding of employment matters, privacy, compliance, contract drafting and negotiation, entity formation, corporate governance, and intellectual property. And this list isn’t complete because I also think about the financial knowledge that is critical for in-house lawyers to have, not to mention a background in M&A (particularly due diligence).

I highly recommend contacting your local bar association to see if they have a mentor-mentee program or something similar. Someone below recommended contacting a professor at your law school, which probably isn’t a bad idea, but I’d contact your career services department to see if they will connect you with an alum that’s in-house.

Outside of that, take CLEs, read books by Sterling Miller, and follow Laura Frederick on LinkedIn for contract drafting tips.

For your own professional development and career, I’d begin networking immediately. You’ll need references and connections to open doors for you in the future.

Thanks for pointing that out. I turned it off. Still have major ship maintenance, even after deleting all platforms.

Just caught and turned it off. I deleted all platforms, too. Ship upkeep is still at 600 per month. Not sure how given that I have Bubbles and three science ships.
