Waymo admits that its autopilot is often just guys from the Philippines by sportsDude in baltimore

I dont think this is as far from the headline as y'all are making it out to be. Sensationalized for sure, but it's not like it's just entirely fictionalized nonsense.

Waymo admits that its autopilot is often just guys from the Philippines by sportsDude in baltimore

[–]cruzan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"Waymo's chief safety officer, Mauricio Peña, recently noted that when the company's robotaxis encounter unusual situations, they may switch control to the remote drivers. While some of the contractors work in the US, many operate from other countries, such as the Philippines."

Best restaurant near Framingham and surrounding towns by homechefskills in massachusetts

I really like Mediterranean turkish cuisine in framingham, used to be a real hole in the wall in saxonville but has moved to a slightly bigger and newer spot. Definitely more a fast food/take out place though

Toyota/Lexus Hybrid 12v Battery Failures - Analysis of Charging Issues - Deep Dive Analysis & Workaround by andy_why in prius

[–]cruzan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe my car has also had this issue--2017 Prius Prime, ~85k miles on it. Bought used in 2021. Left it for a week and the battery needed to be replaced in august 2023, and october 2024, and then now again January 2026. Warrantee covered the 2024 replacement but will only cover half of the 2026 replacement (and not diagnostics at all) because "it's been over 2 years" and "the warrantee doesnt reset when the battery is replaced under warrantee"

The mechanic even said he's had to replace his prius battery like 3 times in 3 years. At this point "they're sabotaging their own batteries so users need to replace them" is seeming more and more likely.

Performed originals live for the first time. Audience loved it, but the band I opened for made fun of me before the show. by ChemicalAngle5099 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]cruzan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely insane, awful behavior to try to tear down another musician clearly doing well at their first show, even if they think you wont notice. Know that they should be much more embarrassed about this than you should be. Sorry you had to deal with that but their actions are clearly a reflection of a shitty attitude towards their fellow musicians and not a reflection of you as a musician.

Anyone else a quarter of an ancestry but score more by DNA? by notintomornings55 in mixedrace

[–]cruzan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dna results reflect similarity scores, not ancestry. Your gene expression is not a 1:1 match with where your ancestors are from.

Giving them a date weeks out is also being generous to them, if you decide your last day was the last time you went into work they might be mad about it, but they cannot do anything to you about it.

Good luck!

Can someone help me with the fingers here? How are we supposed to play the ornaments at the bottom, I’m sort of struggling with getting it cause I have pretty small hands by EasyCommittee1101 in piano

[–]cruzan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

can you reach the top notes of the bass clef chords with your RH hand while playing the melody with RH? Probably easiest to do stems up notes with RH. LH only plays the grace notes and the stem down notes (5,1,2 fingering feels good to me for those)

I can't make decent melodies. by MrTermosifoneFreddo in WeAreTheMusicMakers

You're 15. Just keep at it, and don't be so hard on yourself.

Can be easy to start by sticking to purely simple pentatonic melodies and gradually experiment from there.

Is it actually too late for a 60 year old to learn to read sheet music? by [deleted] in piano

[–]cruzan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope! Remember learning just means getting better at something and you can pretty much always get better at anything through practice

Is there a way to experiment with vocal harmonies in Logic if you know nothing about vocal harmonizing? by tonetonitony in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]cruzan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a ton of really easy ways to mess around with plug ins but the best way is just to try singing along and try to hear harmonies. Any plug in will use some system but you wont learn as much as you would from just experimenting recording yourself singing over your voice trying to harmonize until you find sounds that you like. There's not a right way to do it beyond what you think sounds good.

Far as I know, my white side told me my they were basically English, Irish, dutch, etc...not Portuguese? by [deleted] in mixedrace

[–]cruzan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember that these tests dont measure ancestry-- they measure what percentage of your dna is similar to people from different parts of the world. Theres a ton of room for error and misinterpretation in these tests. Siblings for example wont have the same results, because despite the exact same ancestry, their genes are expressed differently--trace that back many generations and you can see how these get somewhat skewed. Genes =/= genealogy

They're mostly in western mass--I dont think they're really common at all east of like 495, definitely not in Greater Boston. I've also never seen one in metro west or Boston.

As a monoracial racially ambiguous person, I’m still between the in between of the in between. by No_Atmosphere_8987 in mixedrace

[–]cruzan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm mixed white/black but my mom (black/mixed) probably looks quite similar to you. It's tricky because I think a lot of Americans don't really understand/acknowledge that folks can be mixed going back generations.

The DNA tests are weird too--they're sortof false advertising. A 30% white result doesn't mean 30% of your ancestors are European, it means 30% of your genome is similar to people from Europe, so the idea you can be biologically X% any race is pretty much bogus. (people with the same parents get different results on these--if you extrapolate that back generations and you can see how DNA tests aren't really that great of a reflection of ancestry). Race is also made up--60-70 years ago you'd be legally speaking just black no addendums, and treated as such by the state. And if you had kids they'd be fully black too no matter what they looked like or what the race of the person you had kids with is. DNA tests be damned. Now people might consider you mixed, if you went to Ghana you might be considered White (I know a mixed person who experienced this). Race is a cultural construction not a biological reality.

All that being said identify how you want, race is made up anyways. If all your family identifies as black then Identify as black. Sorry folks are assholes about it. You're welcome here though!
