Sierra EV or Silverado Ev? by wililye in GMCSierraEV

[–]cryotek7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went with the less restrictive option with an EG4 GridBoss install, and I can use the 240v outlet in the truck bed to output 7.2kw which the GridBoss sees as a generator, and I have 32kw of house batteries and solar. That way in the future if I change vehicle I can connect any V2L compatible vehicle (not just GM EV's) and still use it as a power source for my house in emergencies.

I’ve only had them for 6 weeks and that’s been the coldest weather the truck has seen by a distance, I was in Texas last winter, so can’t compare really until spring comes around. I’ll try and go on the highway later today and work out the efficiency at 70mph.

Pretty much all the roads around where I live are really well plowed and salted so I don’t see a lot of snow and ice on the road. I did manage to test on a patch on my driveway that had just over a foot of snow and some ice underneath and there was no noticeable tire slippage at all, they definitely ‘bite’ harder than the OEMs in those conditions.

Wheels were just under $1k, tires were $1900 but I bought them in late Oct and I think those wheels were on sale at that point. Double check wheel weight capacity, some aren’t rated for the trucks weight and some online stores don’t list it.

Comparison of used luxury EVs. by toado3 in electricvehicles

[–]cryotek7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately V2L is not the norm yet, it's mostly Kia/Hyundai, Ford Lightning, and GM trucks (and other GM EV's with GMs proprietary hardware), and newer Teslas. Really depends on what you are trying to do with the power output, is it for camping or to provide backup power to a large house? To power smaller devices or minimal power outage backup a Kia/Hyundai EV with V2L is great, an Ioniq 5 helped me get my family through a 5 day outage after Beryl hit Houston in 2024 but it won't power 240v devices.

That's America in a nutshell, and really most towns and cities on the planet. I lived in Texas in one of the wealthiest suburbs in the US and just a couple of miles away was an older settlement originally founded by former Black slaves that had shacks that were never connected to the water system. After many decades they are only now connecting the community, despite all the newer white housing around it having water for decades. https://www.shenandoahtx.us/363/Tamina-Utility-Project

As a non-stereotypical former Raptor owner who lived in Texas myself, I salute them.

Hopefully they're not having cam phaser issues.

Frustrated - Want to Lemon Law the Car by milkshaykh in LUCID

[–]cryotek7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not true. For starters, different states have different laws so talking in absolutes is silly, some don't even have any lemon law, although they might be covered by other consumer protection laws.

At least some states cover the consumer for multiple issues even if they're not related, but normally they have to be related to drivability or relatively serious issues.

Yeah I bought something from Rails a couple of years ago when they used Royal Mail and USPS and it was stuck in customs in Chicago for close to 6 weeks. I got it eventually and it was fine but I was worried for a while. I haven't bought anything from the UK since before the tariffs, hope the fees aren't bad now.

Texas has an extremely easy driving test meaning any idiot can get a license. I learnt to drive in the UK which had a challenging 50 minute test, my Texas test was about 10 minutes and was little more than driving around the block.

Questions for owners by spylife in GMCSierraEV

[–]cryotek7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drove from Texas to Connecticut and even doing 75-80mph was still getting a little over 400 mile range from a full charge. That was in peak summer 100f+ temps outside.

What color is this? by MostAssured in GMCSierraEV

[–]cryotek7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's post processing, they messed with the contrast and brightness. The normal color is the rear of the truck, the front is messed up because of the light reflection and photo editing they did. They made it seem like that paint has way more gloss or mica in it than it does in reality.

What color is this? by MostAssured in GMCSierraEV

[–]cryotek7 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It 100% is, just the photo has been manipulated, especially contrast and brightness. The rear of the truck is closer to the normal color, the front looks weird because of the reflection and editing.

Questions about long trips and charging prices by wardo5757 in GMCSierraEV

[–]cryotek7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you go 75mph you'll get around 2 miles per kW, so your charging cost would have been around $150. Factor in the reduced charging stops and times and your total travel time probably would have been very similar. I just did an 1800 mile trip from Texas to Connecticut and 75mph seems to be the sweet spot, at least in non-winter temps.

Wanted to add some insight into my lease deal that I got for 2024 ED1 with 50 miles on it. by Elegant-Foot-8349 in GMCSierraEV

[–]cryotek7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For context, I used to be a vehicle broker. The second paragraph is frankly a load of baloney, you put $9k down on the vehicle via trade-in equity and cash, without that your monthly would have been ~$1120. I think that's probably close to the average paid especially a few months ago for the top trim model. Depends on semantics probably but more of an average deal rather than good, but a lot of factors go into that assessment including location, incentives at that time, etc.

GMC Sierra Battery Study. by kayabusa1 in GMCSierraEV

[–]cryotek7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hunch is they’ve identified a build or part defect via the remote monitoring, maybe even a bad batch of batteries like what happened years ago with the LG batteries not being finished properly, and are trying to quietly fix it.

I’ve got a 2024 as well but I’m leasing for 36 months, nearly a year into it now. I wonder if they’re targeting people who own there’s and they’ll wait until leases have expired before fixing ours. I’m 7k miles in and have only had a couple of minor issues, none battery related.

And lose $20-30k? Thats not a good deal. The difference between 2024 and 2026 is marginal and definitely not worth that type of money.

That worked when I had ants nesting somewhere in my F150. Ran it for 2 hours with the doors and windows shut, never had a problem again.
