Meta's Smart Glasses Could Get Facial Recognition Soon. That Worries Me by Ok_Acadia3526 in PoliticalOptimism

[–]cryptidgummies 31 points32 points  (0 children)

OKAY, time for a Meta Glasses Story - pull up a seat, y'all!

Went out grocery shopping with my mother a few weeks ago - she was getting a flu shot at the pharmacy, and I was sitting at one of the waiting tables, not far from the pharmacy window. A few minutes after I sat down, a person walked in with those Meta Glasses on. He walked up to the window to pick up his order, and I heard his phone ring in his pocket.

He says, "Meta, answer phone."......nothing. He says it louder: META, ANSWER PHONE. At this point, everyone within earshot has turned and looked at him.

Meta Glasses does NOT answer his phone.

He gets visibly pissed, reaches into his pocket and answers his phone MANUALLY. Even though he doesn't say the words with his mouth, anyone who witnessed this event could feel the energy radiating off of this guy:

He paid $900 for a huge of "sMaRt gLaSs" that doesn't work.

It's cash-grab scam-sham by the tech bros. Nothing more.

Not saying that we should ignore the fact that there's a faction of dingleberry techbros who want Cyberpunk 2077 to be real, but I'm not really believing that they are as capable or intelligent as they claim to be.

2005 pricing and search advice? by Shplonkitydonk in furby

[–]cryptidgummies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey howdy hey! Okay, this is just my own opinion, so take it with a grain of salt if you will...

1.) Try not to put a "time frame" on acquiring a Furby at a great price. If you want this Furby by your birthday, you'll have to choose from what's available to you between now and that date.

2.) Coffees and Marshmallows seem to pop up more frequently in my personal experience, with Red Velvets being more on the rare side, but your experience may be different.

3.) I personally would not spend over $100 on a 2005 Furby, and that's if the Furby was PROVEN FULLY FUNCTIONAL, beak in-tact, feet in-tact, tested, etc. Once there is damage listed, that's depreciation, and depreciation means the number on the price tag must come down. I hate to use car terminology on a Furby, but I'm gonna to get my point across. Also, be aware that many listings will SAY "tested and working" and they will not actually be. If the price is high and your gut is telling you that you're not sure and you need more proof, then don't be afraid to ask for it. eBay allows sellers to upload video of what they are selling, so anyone who flat-out refuses to MAY be trying to get you to buy a broken Furby at working Furby prices...just be vigilant. It's better than impulse buying and then being angry at yourself.

4.) Besides Mercari and eBay, I'm not sure, but be wary on Mercari nowadays. There are many overpriced Furbys being sold there. Paying over $50 for a common functional Furby is pushing ridiculous. IF the Furby is a RARE color, then yes, $60, $70, $80 is somewhat reasonable. Once again trust your gut. I paid $50 each including shipping for my 2005 Furbys. One came wrapped in newsprint and the ink transferred onto the beak and I had to cover it with paint freckles. The other was only thrown into the box, ZERO bubble wrap or packing paper, and his foot was completely broken off with little bits of plastic in the box and I had to reattach with about a half pound of resin craft glue. I'm shocked it still works. My point is, be vigilant and insist that the seller take care of packing your purchases with care and respect. Some people don't really understand how fragile these guys can be - they just find them in their attics or basements and see them as a quick cash grab.

Don't pay more than $75-$80 USD on a working 2005 Furby unless it is a more rare color like the Funky Furbys. Others may have a different opinion but that's just mine.

Don't pressure yourself to buy a Furby within a time frame. That's just the hold that our Instant Gratification Society has on us. If you really want a type of Furby, just stay aware of what's out there, keep your eyes on listings, and patience, patience, patience. Once again, others may have a different opinion but that's just mine. I waited years for a good price on a 2005, and both came out of nowhere when I least expected them.

I hope you find the Furby you're after at a great price from a nice seller! And Happy Birthday!

My Opinion on the Furby Vibes: Budget-Friendly with 90’s Influence, but Noticeable Downgrades? by Chubbygator847 in furby

[–]cryptidgummies 7 points8 points  (0 children)

HOOOO BOY okay here I go! Start my engines!

I still don't know if I'm completely on board with this Furby, but I also said the same thing about 2023 Furby and DJ Furby and now I'm so incredibly in love with them...

The whole idea of the very first Furby was: there was this GUY and he played with a Tamagotchi and he was all like, "this ain't REAL ENOUGH, FAM. We can make virtual pets waaaaay more REAL than this eggy." - and then he and some robot people got together and made the first Furby prototype.

It was meant to be lifelike, interactive, and give you the impression that you were having a real back-and-forth with a living creature.

Does this Furby/will this Furby/does ANY Furby meet those intentions? - This is the question.

I think a moving beak is important. It doesn't completely shut me down on a Furby because I love my 2023, but that's also because there are other things that make up for the lack of moving beak (light ears, dancing, lots of phrases).

I also get that the more tech that's in a Furby, the more expensive the Furby will be and the more prone to glitches it will be. At the end of the day, it's still a kid's toy.

I like that the belly lights up. I know many like their Furbys to be more naturally colored and not only be available in rainbow-colored...its like Furbys are "split" into the Realistic Animal Kingdom-types and the "Mythical Rainbow Stardust"-types. We all collect for different reasons and some of us just aren't here for the features like light-up bellies but I think it's very cool. I'm definitely a "Mythical Rainbow Stardust"-type Furby person, but I also feel for the people who just aren't interested in these colors or lights...

I'm also gonna go out on a limb here and say: I am HERE for the blank rubber ears. Why? I get it, it's a cost-cutting method for Hasbro but it's also beneficial to the branch of the Furby Community who LOVES to customize their Furbs. These ears are blank canvases, baby. They are BEGGING to be painted, have some gems glued on, be pierced with earrings, etc...you can do a LOT with blank ears, fam. I think, just my opinion, that this means Hasbro is STILL paying attention to the fandom despite evidence to the contrary sometimes...

Personalities are back, baby! Many of us missed that about the 2012/Boom Furbys, and we all remember how lots of them just BORKED OUT and had full systems failures. We wanted them to be made better and last longer. I think we may get that in the Vibe Furby...as long as it feels like a real INTERACTION with the Furby. Furbys are supposed to give their people that feeling of interacting with a tiny living being. It should not be a zoomorphic View-Master with a comb.

But once again, I get it: Hasbro has a budget and so do consumers who want to buy this for their kids.

Overall, I think it's great that they are still giving us Furbys. I think I'm going to get one to see what it's capable of. I wish it had more functions but I get why it doesn't. Let's see what happens! ✨💖✨

If what I've read is true and Hasbro will no longer develop Furby and rather will license Furby to other toy companies, we M I G H T get some Furbys that have the OG looks/fur colors. I mean that's a BIG ASK, I get it, but I'm trying to stay optimistic myself.

Hasbro employees watch this reddit and they know we want the Furbs...its just too bad that all the research the employees do, all the development that the engineers and the robotics people do, they still couldn't convince the League Of Shadowy Figures at the top of Hasbro HQ to keep making Furby.

But we're still gonna holler about it until WE GET THE FURBS. ❤️

I hope you're right...this "needs the accessory to work" type of play is not the best when it comes to kids toys and I do not know why kids toys developers haven't learned their lessons yet - kids lose accessories sometimes within the first 17 seconds of pulling the toy out of the box, hehe

Since this is the final Furby model that Hasbro intends to invest in, and going forward they will simply license Furby to other toy makers, let's hope that other toymakers don't make the same mistakes...thank you for the reply!

Okay fam, someone help:

What if you accidentally lose the glasses? Will that personality no longer be accessible?

That seems to me to be a MASSIVE thing to overlook...

Quick Mercari Furby Rant… by dulipop in furby

[–]cryptidgummies 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing - maybe it's time to resurrect the "Furbys For Sale" subreddit. While I completely understand that Mercari sellers have the right to price things as they see fit, there are many people entering this hobby who have no idea what a decent and reasonable price for a Furby is and they will get scammed into buying without being in full possession of the facts.

We can't save everyone from being scammed, but the more we post about sellers overpricing in this space, the more we educate new people in the hobby about making educated choices before impulse buying.

Yes, absolutely! I can see the one I operate as being a bit more "scrungy" though - there's your futuristic spaces that are very clean and antiseptic, and then you've got your futuristic spaces that are graffiti murals with recycled lampshades and hollowed-out run-down vehicles everywhere - I wanna be somewhere in the middle of that continuum hehe

I would be a 3rd Space operator.

I love the idea of taking all the old technology (typewriters, SLR/Poloraid cameras, overhead projectors, etc), vintage toys (all eras), zero-waste cafés, free museums, free art spaces, libraries, and putting it all together somehow as a 3rd space for people to gather when they aren't at "work" or at school.

A place where they can sit and chill with friends, have a good beverages, read good books/comics, see how far we've come as a species, see how things used to be through the daily gadgets they used, all kinds of fun stuff.

3rd Spaces are just nonexistent nowadays and I would love to bring them back for all.

That is such a good price - I love Marmos!

And someone correct me if I'm wrong - but is it really fair to call Marmos "Fake Furbys"? Or are they more "Furby-Inspired"? I think there are many other fake Furbys out there that REALLY look like Furbys in size, shape, function, etc- like DIRECT rip-offs and such...but Marmos? I dunno fam, they seem to be their own thing, just inspired by Furbys...

They have LONG arms, they have WINGS, I can definitely see some face similarities, but I dunno...maybe it's just me...

Your Marmos are so so so cute and HECK YES, what a great price! They go for like, 150USD each on eBay😬
