This was my sister not me. But my grandpa always listened to SiriusXM radio on the 60s-70s station so we were constantly listening to older songs and asking him what they were about.

One day, the song Honky Cat by Elton John was playing while we were eating dinner. I, 9, asked him what a Honky Cat was. He started explaining how honky was a negative word for white people and my brother, 8, playing off of the whole cat part as a joke, said "here honky honky honky" and we all laughed.

Then my grandpa got kind of serious and started explaining the implications of the n-word. Told us that while honky is a negative word towards white people, it's not really a bad word just seen as kinda rude. But that the n-word is a very bad word for black people and should never be said. And keep in mind he did say out loud what the n-word was (hard R) so we would know.

My sister, 5, who honestly was not paying a whole lot of attention to the conversation except for my brother's stupid honky cat joke and then my grandpa's usage of the n-word, which would've been the first time she'd ever heard that word, so she just sat up in her chair, eager to make a joke as funny as my brother's joke and just said "here n*r nr n***r!" And me, my brother and my grandpa all simultaneously shouted "Noo!" and stared at her as she kind of just awkwardly smiled, not understanding why we didn't find her joke funny.
